I LOVE the whopper plopper. By FAR my favorite lure of all time. I use the 110 for smallmouth and the 130 for largemouth. I have the 90 and 75 but hardly ever throw them. I don’t own the 190, because I don’t generally target musky. The 190 was the original whopper plopper. After some guys started catching largemouth on it, they decided to make a smaller one.(130). Then the 90 came out, 110 after that, and finally the 75. Such a great line of lures. I wish they’d make the Chubby color in the 110 size. Man that color slays em.
When I've seen that happen, there usually has been something that got stuck on the shaft before the back portion. A little piece of vegetation or something similar.
Mr. Stever Rodgers sir , i purchased my 1st whopper plopper tonight at my local academy sports , i used to not own a whopper plopper , but now that i have my 1st whopper plopper in solid white in a small 3/16th size i figure i might as well search youtube universe world about whopper ploppers so i can be ready to fire out the whopper plopper , im fishing brown chocolate coffe cream conditions and i personally love white and pink baits , so the whopper plopper is a new addition to my "Barbie Bait" Collection thank you Mr.Steve Rodgers , Sir for you great information , im curious how effective the whopper plopper would work on a texas rig or what would happen if you fished the whopper plopper like a spinner bait
I mean I’m basically new at bass fishing, me and my buddy got bass fever after catching our first largies of the year last week. But we have been getting skunked every time since we have been out. And we’ve thrown everything from t rigged senkos, pitching weedless jigs with rage craw trailers have tried top water frogs spinner baits buzz baits lol. Maybe we are not finessing our baits correctly. Maybe do a video on things to throw during middle of day we usually don’t get to go out until after 3pm
You won’t regret buying them. The smallmouth smash the 110 and 90. I throw the 110 and 130 for LMB. The most versatile size is the 110 for sure. If you can only get one, get a loon 110.
Weightless a snap would definitely work. With a worm weight, it would rest on the snap. I would definitely use a heavier gauge snap though both with the weight of the worm and the hard hookset. Great question!
@@SteveRogersOutdoors Hey Steve, thanks, but I was asking about using a snap on a Whopper Plopper, not a worm. I’m not a great fisherman but at least I don’t use a snap for a worm!
@@1965JB Oh my gosh, I was a answering comments on the video that dropped today and totally didn’t catch this question was on a whopper plopped video. Lol. My fault. Yes, a snap would be fine with this lure.
whopper plopper is the best of the best lures ever but one thing I will like to see. putting on circle hook on whopper plopper & see if you get more fish,.
Great question. There are some medium power rated rods that are listed for lures up to 1oz, the 130 is a little more than that, 1 3/8oz I believe. I should have added that a moderately fast action is better on a medium power rating than the moderate or slow action since it allows for the backbone to kick in sooner. I should have also added that I use the medium power rating most often with the size 110 and 90. Depending on the rod blank, it may not be able to handle the 130 on a medium power rating and a MH would be better. Once, again, great question and thank you for helping to clear that up for our viewers!
@@SteveRogersOutdoors absolutely, better to say moderate fast action will work better, a rod with more give will work better. Medium action for smaller sizes, medium heavy to handle the 1 1/38 130 size. ✌️
Now that I’m starting to throw big baits for big bass out here in So Cal. I will definitely have a 130-190 tied on to my 7’9” crankin rod with a Diawa Fuego 8:1... 🎣
Believe me folks the hype is real. I've always been a Rapala top water guy for decades. A buddy of mine came to Lake Champlain with me where I've fished since a child. He introduced me to the plopper. I was skeptical but I immediately started landing both large and smallies twice the size I had been averaging. The WP is the real deal, get ya some. Works really well when retrieving along a line of weeds, or anywhere at first light.
Always replace the hooks on the river to sea ones. They’re way to thick and I’ve missed many fish because of them. Throw some thinner gamakatsus on there
The entire lure is rotating in the water? Haven't seen that. The first thing I would check is that the actual blade is completely free and not stuck on something.
Yeah I’m curious on a good beginner knot for 8/lb mono for a 60mm WP. I just got my first fishing pole ever… it’s just a *Shimano Nasci 2500 spinning reel* that I paired with a *Shimano Sellus 7.1 Medium/Fast rod*
The Whopper Plopper works great with a direct line tie, not using a snap. As far as rod, if I am throwing some of the larger sizes, I will step up to a MH, but most of the time I am using a Medium. For a reel, I like to stay slow, with a gear ratio around 5.2:1. I normally throw it on 10lb mono. Thanks for watching. Let me know if you have other questions.

Thank you!
Mr Steve Question have you used the choppo bait which is better that or whopper plopper Thank you love your videos.
I actually have not used the Choppo, but I know a lot of anglers that love it.

I love the whopper plopper, but have problems with the front portion spinning. Any ideas how to avoid that?
When I've seen that happen, there usually has been something that got stuck on the shaft before the back portion. A little piece of vegetation or something similar.
Awesome video! Thanks Steve.

I caught my first whopper plopper bass ever today! I landed 3 including a 5 pounder!🎣 Thanks for the tips Steve! 🤘🏻
Congrats! That is very exciting. Many more to come.
Thanks for the video! I’ve been thinking about trying a whopper plopper.
You're welcome! Be sure to let me know if there is anything specific you want to see.

Also good to use braided line with that set up because big pike will smash those lures too. Metal leader doesnt hurt either in that case
I have lost soooo many lures to Pike. They definitely put a hurting on the pocket book. Thanks for sharing!
Is it ok to use a snap with these? Doesn’t seem like it would interfere with the presentation.

Use chap stick on fishing lines will make them float

Why does the whole lure spin for me?
