There are some people who brag about drifting and are quite reasonable at it and then there are these guys - they're humble yet they are exceptional at what they do.
Fantastic video, beautifully shot too Motortrend! It's great to have these other perspectives on racing from around the world. Shame you didn't get to see him in Japan; the 86 he's testing with RS-R for Formula D, Asia may have a NASCAR engine....
If a turbo gt86/brz was released from factory with 300-350hp, it would possibly be one of the greatest cars in modern history, that chassis is simply astounding
I think i started my comment with a compliment, i love being in Norway. I really love the nature, can find some peaceful rest there.I also like the kind Norwegian people (...maybe you are the exeption). I was just replying to someone who admired the Norwegian cuisine, i don't think that is the best comming out of there. Please take it easy... and have a nice day!
Ah, I love drifting. Such a relaxing sport to watch. As it was stated, it's not as competitive and hostile due to being a judges sport. You aren't beating the guy you are out there with, you're achieving your best. Plus, I love the sexy import cars.
Each time I look at any kind of review that contains the FR-S/GT86, I love it more. I dunno there's something about that car that makes me just wanna sit inside and keep driving it all day long around some track. Maybe its just me..
Continue: When it comes to ice tires: what you need is pressure on the studs. That can be accompliced by either reducing the number of studs (less area meaning more pressure on the studs to dig in to the ice) or use a narrow/skinny tire. Since the rule of a wider tyre = more grip don't apply for this use (studs aren't made out of rubber :p ) use the god'oll Force/Area.
He blew the GT86 head gasket. Interior shots are from when he drove his friends E36. They are not trying to fool, it's just the footage they got. It's not about the car anyway ;)
Studded WRC tires. That's why we describe driving on ice so differently. He was on proper rally tires, and I was on road legal tires with no studs left :P
amazing video guys! but i have some guestions.. the gt86 in this video its n/a or turbo cause i saw ic ..? can this type of engine (boxer 2.0 l ) been modified as a turbo engine ? its there a kit or something ? i 'm sure it is worth it in a drift car project but is still value 4 money ? thanks !
When it comes to regular tires usually Wider tyres = more grip. But what's also true is that wider tire=bigger area that the force is spread across mening that the you will have less preassure on the tire if you go wide. (meaning LESS friction) It depends on what laws of friction you are using. Colombs law can not be used for say racing tyres in that sence....
Can somebody please explain to me the physics of skinny studded tires? I´m studying mechanic engineering, but I can´t get it. Wouldn't it be the more studs square cm the more grip? There's no aquaplanning in snow. Sorry for crappy english
He could have the Sub flat six engine like his teammate Gushi. It's so cool that he has the BRZ/86! Is he going to use that one in the next season of D1 or stick with the tC?
They would if you were. We just happen to drive Toyota's, as they are awesome platforms for drifting. It doesn't matter if it's an old Toyota or a new Toyota, or Toyota's youth brand, Scion. Toyota's have great build quality and there's great aftermarket support for all Toyota's. Even my old Toyota is easy to maintain, due to many of the Toyota parts still beeing available from my local Toyota dealer. (So Toyota, when do I get paid. Still waiting...)
I don't, I just made a joke. I could not care less about brands. If I like a car, I like it. If I can afford it, I buy it. What the badge says is secondary. I did not really comment on the price of the GT86, as it's something like $75,000 in Norway due to crazy taxes... So bitch please ;)
Nope. Didn't you see them looking at the 2JZ headgasket... it had a water leak, it got topped up too fast with cold water and the hot head warped.. so the 86 was out of it for the interior shots. So he used a different car... an E36.
I have watched this guy many times on track, he is amazing, probably one of the best drivers in Norway..
Thank you! We appreciate you watching and sending your feedback!
Glad to hear it!
Some beautiful sceneries in this video. Thanks for the posting this.
It was such a delight to spot old Japanese cars in this video:
MR2, RX7, SC, Silvia, and that Cressida. Warms the cockles of my heart.
What a sweet episode. Everything about it is just insanely lovable. Thanks MT :)
There are some people who brag about drifting and are quite reasonable at it and then there are these guys - they're humble yet they are exceptional at what they do.
Great video! Great to see some different viewpoints of popular motorsports.
Fredric is a stud!! I would watch him drift any day!
I love my gt86 so fun..need it to snow now..
One of the coolest videos ever. Great.
Lovely video , love downshifts like this
You guys used fantastic music for this video, set a really nice tone. Great vid!
my favorite motor trend video

Great video thanks motortrend!
The GT86 is a beast!
Many greetings from Austria!
:D
Great Downshift Episode!
Lol love that intro "My names Fredric Asbø and i Drift"
Oh man after reading the speedhunters some time back, this is good stuff
Beautiful video!
Every Toyota enthusiast knows his car's chassis code.
Quality time indeed. great video!
Whoa. Look at the AC control knobs at 3:59, that tripped me out
More friendly vibe? I saw Tokyo Drift, and I'm sure that was TOTALLY true to life. Like 100%. Absolutely accurate. As movies always are.
toyota gt86
is the best car in the word
This was oddly awesome
this was an awesome video!!
How is that MotorTrend puts out such great RUclips content but their previous TV shows were just horrible.
Love this channel!!
can we have a sequel? this might be my new favourite motor trend video.
If a turbo gt86/brz was released from factory with 300-350hp, it would possibly be one of the greatest cars in modern history, that chassis is simply astounding
awesome track, wish we had that here!

Just made me a proud norwegian! Heia Fredrik!
Amazing! Respect guys
he is a very down-to-earth guy when I met him personally in a drift show in Hong Kong. Love him (No homo).
Great video, great cars...
The 2002!
what a cool old bimmer, and snow drifting to boot.
I've snow drifted with HKS owner's kids up in Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. I'll never forget Mt. Hakusan!
Well done!
Cool video, wish it was longer.

Very nice video!
Great inspiration! Love Drift...
First snow came here today, but it's not much. Can't wait for full snow and go drive my BMW. :)

One of my all time favorite

What's up with the E36 dash ?
Thats because he is driving an E36 right there :)
aside from the tires can you use the same set up for drifting on snow and asphalt?
Classic Toyota's #1 in drifting.
Studded WRC tires. That's why we describe driving on ice so differently. He was on proper rally tires, and I was on road legal tires with no studs left :P
Just as nice in person... although the 86 is far more impressive on tarmac!!
Epic drifting
DAMM the Cressida scene was beautiful
The GT86 blew a head gasket, so interior shots are from his mates turbocharged, 1UZ powered E36. Simple as that ;)
Norway known for metal and great food and now for drifting awesome

is that a track he made or it was there? need some snow drifting!!
It's not the GT89 (the interior part) notice how the window shape is different. The video editor probably confused them.
Swee! Missade det där när jag bodde vid Ski.
Fredric Aasbo and Daigo Saito. Both are just honest drifters
i love how that movie inspire many people to drift.
It is a beautiful country, been there a lot (summer and winter). I also like fish, ...but also vegetables and alcohol. ;)
This GT 86 is awesome. He built in a supra engine from his old formula drift car!
Cressida represent!
Makes my heart go pitterpat too buddy!
Awesome!!!
Beautiful

"and its slow" as hes driving a 2j powered gt86 lol
No
Yes I do like fish and deer meat and I have been to Norway a long time ago.
you're right, and the engine sounds like a six cilinders too (although maybe turbocharged)
cool video
He has a 2jz in it. If you want to turbo the stock engine there are a few kits out there. I think greddy makes one, but they are quite expensive.
Song from 1:40 - 2:00 ?
the gt 86 im sure will be as legendary as the ae86 was but only time will tell
Really wished Motor Trend told us some specs of the GT 86 from this video, I'm interested in THE CAR!

Dear motortrend, could you make a playlist with all your music or link us to the website you use? :)
Heart sank when it ended.
thats a clean af cressida
15 minutes away from my place then, and damn, I REALLY want a Cressida as well...
GOOD VIDEO :D
He's norwegian im also from norway
That Toyota was used in the børningen movie in norway
SebiFrost Vlogs i am from norway
what was the dude's name he saw in the video?
Whats the backgroundmusic @3:00???
whoo! Norway :D
awesome vid! but I didn't get why they even replaced the interior of the gt86
Turbocharged and a roll cage?
I've drifted an -97 Jeep Wrangler with the 4 or 4.2 litre "hi-output" which is about 170hp on ice. Noo problem!
who did fredric race 10 years later? how do u spell that name?....
Norway!!
Nope. Didn't you see them looking at the 2JZ headgasket... it had a water leak, it got topped up too fast with cold water and the hot head warped.. so the 86 was out of it for the interior shots. So he used a different car... an E36.
