Yes you are right, These days bowling are street bowling. Nothing great. All become batsman game. And from Early 70s to early mid 2000 the bowlings were really lethal. 70s was terror/ horror for batsman if they are playing against Wi / Australia.
Gavaskar and Greg Chappell are underrated gems from the 70's and 80's, having an average above 50 and in fact thriving against the WI pace quartet of Hoding, Garner, Croft and Roberts and later even Marshall, is no joke, especially without a helmet... That debut of Gavaskar's against the Windies in Windies where he scored 700+ runs in just 4 tests and missed a test of that five-match series is the best batting display I can think of(don't bring Bradman into this, that guy was a god, I often used to think that he was a myth cause I kept hearing from people that he had an average of 99.94 in an era of uncovered pitches, bodyline and no helmets)
Mohan jaan, I would think besides Gavaskar. , Boycott. Turner, also Barry - Viv Richards, Clive Lloyd, Javed Miandad, David Gower were also very difficult to dislodge. The era of 70s had some very classy batsmen who could walk into the world XI team without difficulty.
Sunil Gavaskar was one of the most difficult batsmen to dislodge in test cricket. The others in his era were Geoffrey Boycott and Glen Turner. These 3 were a breed apart from the rest. I think Andy Roberts and Michael Holding were his contemporaries, Dennis Lillee and Jeff Thomson also were around at the same time. So it is wrong to say that he did not face genuine pace bowlers
Gavaskar is d greatest batsmen of all-times , because he played holding, Roberts, croft, garner, Marshall,Imran khan, sarfraz nawaz,Botham,Willis, hadlee ,, Thompson, Underwood,John emburey,Wasim, etc without wearing a helmet in his whole career.greatest d game has seen.
I think Gavaskar is a forgotten hero - many people do not know the game of this legend, it's great that another legend Wasim Akram share the notes about legendary Sunny.
Kohli never face world class bowling, Tendulkar does and Sunil yes my generation called him Sunil ..... This name means trust ...... Till he was in crease all Indians have hopes .... And the honour he having for country is certainly remarkable .... Salute n tribute to Sunil ...... Although kohli scores runs he is far away n never in comparison with this duo Sunil n Sachin
I m the biggest of Wasim Akram. .. The greatest left arm fast bowler cricket has ever produced. ... I love you Akram Sahab as a cricketer ....you are very sober & gentleman. ...
Sunil Gavaskar is certainly the greatest batsman world has ever seen. The beauty of his footwork, technique and his dedication aiscipline and character made him the greatest. If he got the chance of playing some bowlers of the later period, he could make 75 tons.
Temperament, concentration and defensive technique, yes, and in a difficult era, playing opener, but less destructive than various other greatest batsmen
The greatest batsman since Bradman was Viv Richards. The man never wore any protective gear except the pads. He intimidated the fast bowlers and not the other way around. Gavaskar was extremely good, had better technique and temperament than Richards. He faced all the fast bowlers and was never intimidated. You knew that he was going to score a century in one of the two innings. He was also the best player of spin, if anyone remembers his knock in Bangalore 86-87. That was extraordinary. It is a shame that Shane Warne never got to bowl to him. Tendulkar was good, but he never had to play without the helmet. It is hard to say how successful he would have been without the helmet.
Viv Richards was a miserable failure against Lillee, Thomson in Australia in 1975-76. The Aussies won 5-1 at home. Viv never had to face the world's fastest bowlers because they played for Windies.
You Gee you're dismissing Viv because of one bad series at the beginning of his career? What about all the other times he put Australia to the sword (every other series he played against them, that is!)? Viv Richards was unbelievable to watch. As was Gavaskar.
Excellent analysis by the great bowler Wasim Akram. No doubt Sunny is the greatest player as he faced the greatest bowlers .No other player would have scored so many runs if they had faced such great bowlers.
Wasim was spot on...Sunil Gavaskar played in that bowlers dominating era without a helmet...faced the most lethal and the fastest bowlers like Walsh,Ambrose,Marshall,Wasim,Lilee,Imran,Hadlee,Garner,Dujon,Patterson...in those difficult batting pitches and conditions with a thin piece of willow so called a cricket bat(the early 80's cricket bats which were thin as a hockey stick) still managed to get a lot of runs in the difficult English and Australian conditions...scored a lot of runs throughout his career with a great consistency and ended up with 34 test centuries and an average over 50...a real genius and undoubtedly a gem of Indian batting
13hundreds against that westindies team which had marshall holding roberts garner craft and many more makes him a giant of a batsman he faced some other greats too denis lillee jeff thomson richard hadlee imran khan wasim akram ian botham and many more and faced them without wearing a helmet and he was a opener dn also he played 125matches with a average of more than 51plus scored 34hundreds these all things makes him legend of our game and indeed he is legend of a game I am 27year boy folks but still for me the ultimate form of the game is test cricket I bet if the young boys of ds generation will ask their father or grandfather who was the ultimate batsman of their era many will have 2names Sunil gavaskar and Vivian Richards These two gentlemen without a shadow of a doubt were great great batsman of our game.
Gavaskar had no Dada, Dravid, Laxman to back him up. except Vishwanath and Azhar he hardly played with a companion equaling him. No before him could ever imagined that 10000 runs can be scored. He showed it in those days, and held his record high for 22 years. I have seen him playing in the ground. What a beautiful stance he had, and very good running between the wicket. Tendulkar is good, but Gavaskar is Gavaskar.
having watched both tendulkar and gavaskar play, as a test batsman gavaskar was slightly better batsman specially when defense and temperament is concerned. Buts that is everything else tendulkar is better batsman (tests odi combined).
Gavaskar had a superior defensive technique. Whereas, Sachin had wider range of attacking strokes and much more balance when he played his shots. I agree its difficult to compare both batsman as they both have incredible feats like both averaging highest against the best teams of the era ( WI and Aus) !
Sachin got hit on the helmet so many times, and that too as only 2 down and in an era where bouncer restrictions are in place. Gavaskar never ever got hit in the head (he was so confident he never wore a helmet) and that too as an opener where conditions and pitch behavior are unknown, and against the fearsome fast bowlers of his time like Marshal, Garner, Robert, Holding, Thomas, Lillee, Willis etc. This settles the argument for me once and for all.
Sunil Gavaskar is the baap of Tendulkar in Test Cricket. In the 1960s and 70s,India used to have a terrible reputation as a Cricketing team -especially on overseas conditions. This man changed everything - Thinner bats, longer boundaries, perfect pitches and dangerous bowlers - he used to carry the batting on his shoulders especially on 4th innings pitches. Had Sunil started his career in the 1990s,his test batting average would have been 70+. Only visiting batsman who earned a Calypso song in his name - from the fans of the great West Indies!! And Sunil had an average of 35 in ODIs in the 1980s - though not many centuries - which is equivalent to 40-45 in the era of Sachin and Lara. So Gavaskar has to be the best ever Indian batsman. Sachin fans might not accept it.
sunil gavaskar is the best batsman all time in India because sunil gavaskar time bowler Malcolm Marshall garner Andy Roberts Micheal holding Denis lilee Richard headly facing great bowler all time for me India's best batsman is sunil gavaskar
Only a great can talk so candidly about another great. We were young when you were at your peak. It was good to see both of your names in the most of the lists of all time greats.

Love you Akram bhai. You are so humble and it is a mark of your greatness. You mesmerized the world with your swing and your enchanting smile. Immense respect for the legendary Sunil Gavaskar.
Grounds were really big in 70s, 80s and 90s with slow outfield. The quality of the bad was relatively poor in those days which has improved a lot in this modern age. Getting a boundary was really hard and hitting a six wad even worse back then, but when you see gavaskar's record he is just phenomenal.
How wonderful to hear one legend praising another. Yes, Sunil Gavaskar will always be my choice for opening batsman if I were to pick a greatest XI. Wasim Akram would be the first all-rounder on the list.
Dream Test Eleven since I (/my gen) started following cricket (i.e. 1990s): 1. Sehwag 2. Dravid 3. B.C. Lara 4. Tendulkar 5. S. Smith 6. Sangakkara (WK) 7. Kallis 8. Imran Khan (c) 9. Warne (vc) 10. Akram 11. McGrath / Murali 12th man: Jonty Rhodes Some notes: a) Dravid has opened with Sehwag and who can forget their 400+ opening stand against one of the better pace attacks (pak). b) Smith is a phenomenal Test batsman averaging over 60. As a matter of fact the sum of the batting averages for this team is OVER 500 !! c) To have Kallis who averages MORE than Tendulkar, to bat at 7 is a luxury. Such is the batting strength of this XI. d) On spin friendly conditions, to face Warne and Murali in tandem would be a nightmare. On pitches outside subcontinent, it will be intimidating to face the pace quartet of Akram, McGrath, Imran and Kallis (and supported by Warne). e) Jonty is the best fielder of all time. As the 12th man can only contribute through fielding skills, it would be silly to have anyone else as 12th man. Maybe ask Sehwag to feign a niggle and get some rest. f) Imran is the best leader of men to ever walk out on a cricket field. He led the notoriously factious Pak team as a unit. He is also the only true world leader to emerge from the game in the history of Test cricket. So he is naturally the best choice for captain, given he is also the best bowling allrounder in the last 30 years.
Time for a brutal truth - No batsman ever in world comes close to Gavaskar's defence and no bowler in the world comes close to Wasim's Swinging Yorkers

No offense but it does not say all. because 8 of his centuries came in two series (70/71 series of Ind in WI & 78/79 series of WI in Ind) when none of the pace bowlers were playing in those series. Only Sylvester Clarke was the notable fast bowler in the later series and it was his debut series. Also Malcom Marshall Played just in one or two matches. And also it is 13 centuries not 14. Though i also think that gavaskar was one of the premier batsman of his age. I can send you links if you want.

Sunny played without halmets too before 1980s .Oh my goodness
Gavaskar is d greatest batsmen of all-times , because he played holding, Roberts, croft, garner, Marshall,Imran khan, sarfraz nawaz,Botham,Willis, hadlee ,, Thompson, Underwood,John emburey,Wasim, etc without wearing a helmet in his whole career.greatest d game has seen.
Sunil Gavaskar was a legend -
I think Gavaskar is a forgotten hero - many people do not know the game of this legend, it's great that another legend Wasim Akram share the notes about legendary Sunny.
Gavaskar taught India to play fast bowling.
A true legend!
I love you Wasim Akram. You are so true and honest and you carry charm and love in you. Lots of love from India.
Sunil Gavaskar the greatest cricketer of all time, we as Indians always remember him
a great legend is talking about great legend.wasim sir a respect from india
I m the biggest of Wasim Akram. ..
The greatest left arm fast bowler cricket has ever produced. ...
I love you Akram Sahab as a cricketer ....you are very sober & gentleman. ...

Grew up watching Sunny I was in awe. Best ever batsman from india in my opinion
Sunil Gavaskar is certainly the greatest batsman world has ever seen. The beauty of his footwork, technique and his dedication aiscipline and character made him the greatest. If he got the chance of playing some bowlers of the later period, he could make 75 tons.
Certainly YES...
Agreed.
U r perfect
He was good, yes. But 'the greatest batsman the world has ever seen'? Stretching things a bit, Partha.
Temperament, concentration and defensive technique, yes, and in a difficult era, playing opener, but less destructive than various other greatest batsmen
One of the greatest test opening batsman the World has seen. He had technique and above all the patience to wait for bad balls to pounce upon.
Tera Viv ko Bol Andy holding garner marshal ke against khelney!
Like u play with ur go without condom
@@chiragmoily5802 shut the fuck up and fuck off , apne gavaskar ko bol 70 ke strike rate se khelne ko
wasim himself legend
Great comments by a all time great bowler for a legend called Mr.Sunil Gavasker...The Father of Indian Cricket
True, sunny faced toughest bowlers throughput his career, managed 50+ average.. Facing fierce fast bowlers with out helmet was an daring act..🙏
13hundreds against that westindies team which had marshall holding roberts garner craft and many more makes him a giant of a batsman he faced some other greats too denis lillee jeff thomson richard hadlee imran khan wasim akram ian botham and many more and faced them without wearing a helmet and he was a opener dn also he played 125matches with a average of more than 51plus scored 34hundreds these all things makes him legend of our game and indeed he is legend of a game
I am 27year boy folks but still for me the ultimate form of the game is test cricket
I bet if the young boys of ds generation will ask their father or grandfather who was the ultimate batsman of their era many will have 2names
Sunil gavaskar and Vivian Richards
These two gentlemen without a shadow of a doubt were great great batsman of our game.
I wish people would stop making God out of Sachin and let him be a human.
Ohhh..u wish !!
ritwika chatterjee
Superb statement
Jaake ganguly ki gaand chaat
Well said !
It's a criminal comparison.
Sunny wassa greatest Batsman
He faced the most dangerous bowlers on fastest tracks
Gavaskar World classic Batman. No doubt on this
Gavaskar had no Dada, Dravid, Laxman to back him up. except Vishwanath and Azhar he hardly played with a companion equaling him. No before him could ever imagined that 10000 runs can be scored. He showed it in those days, and held his record high for 22 years. I have seen him playing in the ground. What a beautiful stance he had, and very good running between the wicket. Tendulkar is good, but Gavaskar is Gavaskar.
2 legends😍😍
1- Wasim Akram
2- Sunil Gavaskar
Yes both are some of the greatest 🙌
There is always good to listen wasim akram
Wasim was my childhood hero. His deceptive swing and elegant bowling action were fantabulous.Hats off from India Wasim Bhai.
To all Sachin-maniacs they should listen to this. I have seen both and admire both. But Sunny wins by a mile.
having watched both tendulkar and gavaskar play, as a test batsman gavaskar was slightly better batsman specially when defense and temperament is concerned. Buts that is everything else tendulkar is better batsman (tests odi combined).
I completely agree with you. However sachin was a brilliant batsman as well
Gavaskar had a superior defensive technique.

Maybe among his contemporary gavaskar was already legend when Akram was starting his international career
If Wasim only gets you once you must be one helluva batsman..... and he was. Av of 50+as an opener is phenomenal. He and Sachin are incomparable.
One of the Best bowler cricket ever produced.....
Wasik Akram ... 1 of the very few Pakistanis whom I admire.... grt bowler, human and a grt ambassador of the game.....
मैं सोचता हूँ कि यह एक ऐसा कांम्प्लीमेंट है जो एक लीजेंड द्वारा दूसरे लीजेंड के लिए दिया जा रहा है।
This shows, how Wasim Ji is humble, apart from the ground rivelary.
This also shows the respect and honor Pakistani player have had for the little master. And this also shows the class of Sunny.
Many thanks to respected Wasim Sir.
That dude faced WI bowlers without helmet.. And not only that.. He scored centuries.. That guy is a legend.
One legend speaks about another legend.
wasim himself a legend. great guy off the field as well.
Wow!! Great to hear that from one Legend pace bowler abt the Best opening batsman ever Sunny Master. Every great player talked the same stuff what Wasim said abt Gavaskar. Technique, concentration were the hallmarks of him. He played so many great bowlers without helmet those days. 34 centuries and 10,122 runs at an avg of 51+. Great feat!

One Legend speaking about another Legend --- Truly Amazing 👍👍👍👍
Full On Respect 👍👍👍👍
We love you too wasim Bhai.
sunny sir and kapil sir played a cricket in one of the most tuffest time when bowlers are dominated salute
Without a shadow the of doubt he was the best opener in test cricket. Legendary cricketer.
So we'll spoken by Akram. The respect he shows deserves respect on itself
Wasim just loved ur bowling those days.. now love you as an gentleman.. u truly speak ur heart
How wonderful to hear one legend praising another. Yes, Sunil Gavaskar will always be my choice for opening batsman if I were to pick a greatest XI. Wasim Akram would be the first all-rounder on the list.
I respect Wasim Akram sir a lot🖤
He is a great person 🖤
I hate it when someone disrespects these legends by trying to overtalk about cricket or by being Mr.Smart
Dream Test Eleven since I (/my gen) started following cricket (i.e. 1990s):
1. Sehwag
2. Dravid
3. B.C. Lara
4. Tendulkar
5. S. Smith
6. Sangakkara (WK)
7. Kallis
8. Imran Khan (c)
9. Warne (vc)
10. Akram
11. McGrath / Murali
12th man: Jonty Rhodes
Some notes:
a) Dravid has opened with Sehwag and who can forget their 400+ opening stand against one of the better pace attacks (pak).
b) Smith is a phenomenal Test batsman averaging over 60.
Gavaskar sir was a legend player bcoz of he was the only player who used to face lethal bowling attack of West Indies. Hats off to u sir

Ajay Kumar Yadav even without those bowlers West Indies was the best team
