    Great walk around. I bought the 24-120 f/4 S. It is my first z mount lens and in comparison with my Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 G2 lens, the Nikon is better in almost every aspect. Fantastic autofocus, quiet and quick with minimal focus breathing. Sharper than Tammy throughout the focal range at all apertures. Better bokeh creating bigger and cleaner bokeh balls at f/4 and f/5.6. The Nikon is even sharper than my Nikon 85 f/1.8 G when closing the aperture to f/10 and beyond. At wider apertures stands extremely good against the 85er. Nikon has created a diamond!

    I’ve had mine just for a day and I can say it’s already my favorite Z lens. I think it’s at least as good as the 24-70 f2.8 and it’s more versatile and much cheaper.

    what this does prove is that you both , no matter which lens you use , can find the best shots . That`s the art of photography right there . Finding the shot !! Fabulous pictures from you both with both lenses . Loved this session . as always .

    Got my 24-120 f4 S back in December with my Z9 and use it professionally for fashion and beauty. For the odd time I need f2.8 in the studio I bought the Z 28-75. In practical terms both are excellent.

    Honestly, you really don't need the 24-70 f2.8 unless you're obsessed with shallow depth of field. This new 24-120 excels all around in my book

    I used to like the F mount 24-120F4 but it was more a 24-70 that could in a pinch go longer. I have been very pleased with this at all focal lengths. There are huge overlaps, but still use cases when the 24-70 F4 24-200 or 24-70 2.8 make more sense. I like they included the function button on the 24-120

    Perfect timing! I ordered my copy of the 24-120 in October and it's scheduled for delivery tomorrow. Some of my best photos were taken with the F-mount version on my D750, which I got rid of about a year and a half ago. I never dreamed it would take this long to get a replacement. It will probably live on my Z6. I really enjoy your videos. (I watch from Illinois.)

    I have the 24-200 and while I realize the image quality is not quite what I could get with 24-120 I think the extra range makes it a better walk-around all-purpose lens. For best quality I do have the 24-70 f2.8 and the 105mm MC prime.

    I shoot with a Z8 and 24-120. Great combo.
    Also use the 14-24 f2.8 and 180-600 tele. Nikon make great glass!

    Thanks for the test...this is likely going to be my next lens. $1K extra for the 2.8 24-70 is a tough pill to swallow and losing that extra 50mm is a negative.

    Is it really worth to buy 24-120, if I am having 24-70 f4. Or 70 -180 would be better choice.

    I was fortunate to receive my 24-120 f4 S lens at the beginning of July after a wait of a few months from Grays of Westminster.
    This lens is outstanding and a great walk about lens also ideal for landscapes. I can't wait for the better weather to get out and shoot with this on my Z7. Thank you Becky and Kon for your reviews and your weekly Friday afternoon videos. Is there a 70-200 f4 S lens on the Nikon lens road map ir would complement the 14-30 f4S lens and the 24-120 f4S duo.

    same question another . Why is the color so different between the two lenses/cameras? Camera settings the same ??

    • @graysofwestminster
      @graysofwestminster  2 года назад

      Different photographers, usually the same settigs but different WB preferences and different editing styles. What Becky finds to be a pleasing-looking shot can be very different to what Konstantin finds a pleasing-looking shot. When we open up a lab for bench testing everything should look the same from one shot to the next :)

    I wish I could find a good real world walk around comparison with the 24-200 Z mount f/4-f6.3. The 24-200 is my most used lens, often with my Z7 set to DX crop mode.

      I have both now. The image quality of the 24-120 way exceeds the one of the 24-200 and is also much sharper. I’ll be selling the 24-200.

      @Philip Soon I would say the image quality of 24-120 is on par with 24-70 f2.8. The 24-200 does the job decently, but sometimes I would be underwhelmed by it. I ordered my 24-120 as soon as it was released and just got it a couple of days ago - really happy with it.

    So in optical performance which is best 24-70 f4 or 24-120 ?

    • @thephotoyak
      @thephotoyak Год назад +1

      I compared them very closely before selling my 24-70. They are essentially the same. I found the 24-70 very slightly better in the corners at 24mm, but the 24-120 was very slightly better over the whole frame at 70mm. The 24-120 is remarkably consistent over the whole zoom range.
