Hello, very late with this but could you please tell me what your left hand is doing on the second half of the beginning riff? Right now I have middle finger on low D 9th fret, pinky on low A 10th fret, index sliding 7th to 8th fret on the F# and ring finger on the 9th fret high A. It's a pretty difficult hand position, but you look to be doing it differently
Looks like I've just got the pinky and ring fingers swapped! Other than that it's the same as you've laid out. I don't have a guitar in front of me and I haven't played this song in years and years, but I'm pretty sure that'll do it.
Hey! Basically it works the same as any natural harmonic or pinch harmonic. You have a string ringing at some length, and something stopping it somewhere along that length (halfway, 1/3, etc) to create a node to change the pitch. With your left hand, hold a fret (or not, this works with open strings too), and with your right, very quickly tap the string directly on top of a higher fret (right on the metal). Feel around for the most resonant fractions, as some places you tap will have harmonics that are very quiet or inaudible. It might take some practice to hit it hard enough to get the string ringing, while also getting the right timing to have the tapping finger create the node - it's easy to only get the string ringing with no harmonic, or to have your tapping finger mute the string entirely if you're too slow. Here I think I'm just tapping an open string on the 12th fret, which is good practice since it's generally the most resonant. I hope that rambling explanation makes sense. Let me know if I can clarify at all, I'm happy to help with any technique questions you have :) Thanks for watching!
@@DarrenTBrandt holy shit man you’re a legend for replying to this so quickly 🙏 amazing cover bro, im gonna keep practicing this one. Thanks for the advice man
Thanks very much! Did you check out the GP transcription? All of the midi can be exported from that! If not, lemme know and I can message you the files.
+Daniel P Thanks! Had to do it by ear. When I recorded it, I don't think there was a correct tab or cover out there (most were playing with a low E instead of the low D the song needs a couple times). Not their craziest song though! I tabbed out the whole thing in the link in the description if you want to give it a shot.
Love! Nice SG man. What is the tuning? I am trying to learn the song currently. I looked for TTNG live of the song but it is better to watch your fingers. More stable footage!
Thank you! Traded it a while back but it is very pretty. I linked to my tab in the description, but if you don't have Guitar Pro I can export a PDF and add it to the Dropbox I have going for my tabs and stems. At the time of recording this, it was the only reasonably correct-sounding version out there, so I'm happy to make sure the right info is out there!
Marco C follow that UG link in the description, the GPX tab there is fully convertible to MIDI! Pretty confident in all of it, hopefully you get some use out of it. Let me know if you ever post a cover!
Thanks for the quick reply! I opted out of paying for GPX but I think I picked it up pretty accurately after studying your fingering haha. Planning on posting a cover this week so I'll definitely give you a shout!
I think TuxGuitar is the usual free GP alternative, should be able to open those files if you want to double-check something! Also thought I'd share the backing tracks, since someone had already asked for them and the sharing link was already set up, juuust in case you were interested - www.dropbox.com/sh/eb4hjj9x2pchyuw/AAB45zU_258EeqJVFzMjfiqYa?dl=0
Wow thank you so much! I'm fortunate enough to have a trumpet player handy but having the drum reference will help me out a ton... I find the beat complicated over that 3/4 timing.
Happy to help! Really excited to see this done with a real trumpet, as you can probably tell I'm a big fan of high-effort covers so I can't wait to see your version. Yes, kind of a tricky polyrhythm to think about all at once, I think it's easier to hear it all as 6/4, with the guitar subdividing in 2 sets of 3 and the drums subdividing in 3 sets of 2 with that backbeat.
@@DarrenTBrandt after the pulloff(or what I think is a pulloff) from 12 to 5 in the low d to the slide of 9 to 12 in the a, what is your left hand doing? Thanks for the response man! If is it hard to understand is because I am not a native speaker
@@retep7232 If you're talking about the part right at 0:48 - Right hand middle finger taps 12 and pulls off to left pinky on 5. Left index hammers on 2, right middle taps 9. Right index taps 9 and slides to 12. The symbols in the tab should help, the T in a circle is a left-hand tap, just means the string isn't already ringing so you have to fret it hard enough that the note sounds. Let me know if that makes sense!
These TTNG covers are so good man. Hats off.
Beautiful
Bravo dude! And you're such a Chad for tabbing it out to boot :)
Fucking love this song, and your cover was fire my man -\m/
you sound so clean.
how do you do that?

amazing

Know this is old as hell but how in the world do you get that tapped harmonic sound around 0:49? Sounds incredible

Hey man nicely covered and great job on transcribing this lot! Do you have the midi for the backing tracks?
Thanks very much! Did you check out the GP transcription? All of the midi can be exported from that! If not, lemme know and I can message you the files.
+Darren Brandt yeah I did, I'd rather have it in midi though, but I'm not sure how to guitar pro > midi. Is it doable?
Yep! Solo the tracks you want to export (or mute the guitar, in this case) and go File>Export>MIDI.
+Darren Brandt Oh wow that's easy haha, thanks man!
This is so good man! How did you learn it?

Guess that's what you get with MIDI instruments.
