Hardline "Double Eclipse" is one of the best hard rock albums that not enough rock fans know about. I was lucky and bought it the day it was released. I saw them live in a club in OKC in 1992 from the front row right in front of Neal. It was one of the best rock-n-roll experiences of my life! Neal was about 38 and the guys in the band called him "Papa Schon". It was so funny, but Neal shredded his ass off that night. After the show the guys came out into the club and hung out with the fans and took photos and signed. It was an awesome concert and night. I've always wondered what great Hardline music would have been produced if they stayed together. For those of you that are too young or don't remember, also check out Neal with Sammy Hagar in HSAS "Through the Fire" it is another awesome album with amazing guitar playing by Neal. Rock on Neal Schon!
+byronofcalgary I don't wish to make you feel any more "frogish" but I also met Glen Burtnick and had him sign my Heroes and Zeros album when he was touring with Styx in '91 on the Edge of the Century tour when Tommy Shaw wasn't back with Styx yet. When my son was born in '91 we were playing Late Night in my wife's delivery room! That album had some amazing songs. I love Softly, I'll Be Waiting, Le Dome, I'll Cover You... Neal Schon is my personal favorite guitarist. I guess that's why I practically have just about anything he's ever done. Also, don't forget the amazing job he did shredding with Sammy Hagar on HSAS. Awesome stuff! Once at a Tulsa show he sang "Self-Defense" from Schon & Hammer. I almost hit my head on the ceiling jumping up in excitement from that experience! LOL
+Marv McQuaid Jr i totally agreed with you mate hardline:double eclipse for me its the best hard rock album out there,im of the lucky ones that own that album it was hard to find, but its precious its gold i love the entire album and i love the band simply love it hardline is one of the best hard rocks bands out there
I'm from the UK, but was fortunate enough to be introduced to their music in '92 courtesy of the Brandon Lee movie Rapid Fire. Some cool memories re-listening to this haha
Marv McQuaid Jr theres no such thing as a kickass band that came out to late for popularity. its called timeless tunes.no matter when it came out or how many sheep out there cant admit to fuckn melting down to the power of the best music EVER PUT TOGETHER. The human mind is powerless to such beautiful music and developes an incredibly large appetite for large daily doses.thirty yrs later it sounds just just like a new release. it is our duty to share the gospel to the youth so they understand the life it breaths and just what melodys in harmony are not just another song from that god awful shit that promotes death and and the almighty dollar
Kick me, shout at me, I don't care.... Double Eclipse is arguably one of the best CDs ever made. Great production, fantastic songs, Gioeli's voice is majestic, Schon's playing needs no words, great drumming too. Now I have to book a visit at Dr Love's....
I found this original cd in moms stuff thats been boxed since 03 when she died i use to listen to this all time. Still my favorite cd and im a country music fan
It's funny. I was an 80s hard rock fan as a kid and love a lot of the stuff in the genre (Van Halen, Bon Jovi etc.) It's a shame these guys came out a little too late just as grunge was starting.
I got this record in 1994 while I was in high school. Great record. Actually heard I'll be There in the trailer from our local cable station to the Brandon Lee movie Rapid Fire. Long story short...awesome album. Sad that Neal left after it, but at least he went back to Journey for the Trial by Fire record.
I saw Hardline open up for Van Halen in April of 1992 at the Palace of Auburn Hills and at the time they were pretty much unknown. They totally rocked the Palace and I made sure that when I got back home after the concert I got the Double Eclipse CD lol
I heard this as a Muzac version in an elevator about 25 years ago. Horns and violins; it scarred me for weeks. "Round and Round" by Ratt got Muzacked too.
How come I only found out about this band today? This stuff is awesome! This song seems like it would be awesome on an upbeat, fun movie soundtrack. I love this song!
Kick ass!!!!!!!!!!! Neal Schon my #1 all time guitar god! Love this whole CD, seen 'em live in '92 with Electric Boys & Mr. Big. What an earth-shaking show!!!
I just left that video and typed in hang on Dr love and found it right away now I have to go back and tell some dude the name of this so he can sus too lol
Journey was a LEGENDARY band with amazing sound, but people can have different opinions & tastes in music. For example, my mother LOVES Journey, Montley Crue, Def Leppard, ect., but on the other hand, I personally prefer bands like Hardline. In my opinion, I think Hardline is awesome, because even today, they still have that great sound that made them popular in the first place, that, & I'm also a MAJOR Johnny Gioeli Fan girl! :)
SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHY THE HELL HAVE I NOT BEEN NOTIFIED OF THIS BAND??? THIS KICKS JOURNEYS ASS ANY DAY..MY GOD...Neal may be short, but he is a guitar god!
Hardline was actually opening act for Van Halen on three concerts in april 1992. Though it may not have been the 5150 tour as Patrick mistakenly thinks , he might have seen them on F.U.C.K. tour.
Well I like Perry and Schon and together they made up my favourite band. All the influences and skills had their place, I wouldn't say Schon got held back in Journey there is some great guitar work throughout their career with and without Perry. His talent is for writing riffs and guitar hooks not always playing as fast as he can for as long as he can. This song was pretty good btw
@JPMusiclife Journey is one of the greatest musical collaborations of all time, bar none. Unfortunately, since the inclusion of SP (no disrespect to "The Voice", Neal has for the most part been held back on showing off his immense talents. Hardline allowed Schon to break free and prove to everyone that he could play with the very best of the era.
Sexiest rock song ever. Just listen to it its old but they dont play this bad ass anymore nowadays. Now its alejandro, im yours, bs. You figured new generations woulda learned a thing of two from this stuff
I think you are confusing this band with another. This album came out in 1992. The '5150' tour you refer to took place in 1986- Neil Schon was still doing Journey then and touring behind the 'Raised on Radio' album. No way you saw Hardline open for VH.
Hold it.......were discussing Journey and how we just now figured out how great Schon is? I think what each new generation of listeners pay LESS and less attention to the past, as if somehow it doesn't matter. SAD! Journeys first album entitled just "that", was a musical masterpiece with every song written for "GUITAR GOD" chops, and Neal flat out kicks ass. If you like a little outerspace music and Journey with a MALE vocalist, at LEAST listen to the first album. You won't regret a minute!
Dr. Love went HAM!
Thank you for understanding my needs
Am so lucky, many rock fans will die without knowing anything about this amazing and perfect album.
Massively underated band - fantastic vocalist
Time for an original lineup reunion now Johnny and Deen are now working together again! Schon needs to get in there and make it happen.
Critical mass massively
Yep

Thank you Hellion Hero
Sounds a lot better than other acts that were more successful. Shoulda been much bigger.
It's funny. I was an 80s hard rock fan as a kid and love a lot of the stuff in the genre (Van Halen, Bon Jovi etc.) It's a shame these guys came out a little too late just as grunge was starting.
Same thoughts. I thought so too.
I can't believe i found them out now on my 50s. They are awesome !!!
One of the greatest albums of all time .

I agree. Perry wanted to do keep selling those ballads. Journey started out as a pretty cool rock n roll band with great licks.
Rock on !
If you are Listening to this tune for the 1st time - ENJOY !!!!!

Steve Perry never let the real Neal come out thats the main reason he isnt there anymore.
