Clipping segments out from your live stream is a question I get asked a lot about, so I really hope this video helps. There's some great clipping and replay options out there, but often they can come with large costs, so here's a free option to try. Enjoy :) ALSO, don't forget to take advantage of the FREE LucidLink Trial (go to 07:42 in the video to learn more) : go.alex.live/lucidlink
I did a quick review of this, and I hope it’s what I’ve been looking for? I’d like to use OBS for controlling the frontend of the stream and ATEM for the backend.
This is a great tutorial @AlexPettitt! Thank you for sharing it! Would it be possible to record the clips to a network connected drive that a Hyperdeck Shuttle has access to so you could cue and feed the replay back into the live broadcast?
Glad you found it useful... and great question! So because the Hyperdeck Shuttle is a little picky about what format it needs for playback, it's not really possible with this workflow. But you can feed it back out of OBS and into your broadcast. Also I have a video coming out soon on this, but it is possible for the Hyperdeck Shuttle to record to a network drive. I haven't tested this but I believe with two hyperdeck shuttles, the workflow you want could work. One for recording and one for playback both over the network. Hmmm I might have to try that!!
You mentioned taking it back into atem for an instant replay option. Care to elaborate more on that please. That would be the purpose i would want to use it for. Great video by the way.
Sure thing, I was thinking about doing a separate video on this but wanted to see how many people were interested in this video first. Anyways, you can use a OBS plugin called Directory Watch Media (obsproject.com/forum/resources/directory-watch-media.801/) to playback as a media source your most recent saved clip. Then you would just output that via HDMI back into the ATEM as an input :) Hope this helps
I use Updeck for replays. It has a tablet interface to select the replay you want and the speed of playback. Just setup a scene for the replay with a suitable overlay and project it out of the HDMI into the Atem.
Hey Martin good question, with this method we are only recording the ATEMs program output into OBS, not individual camera files. Hope that makes sense :) Alex
Is it possible to use green screen chroma keying inside super source? What I mean is, I have camera-1 which has green screen and I replace the green screen with an image from Media source. I have camera 2 which is my tablet screen. Can I build a super source using both inputs in which camera 1 has the green screen removed and camera 2 as it is?
Nice. Only came across few vids regarding this replay thing. Wonder why didn't you show us how to show it up on stream rather than just the recording feature. *** Map the hotkey so it shows up in stream as instant replay. Maybe 2 hotkey , 1 for saving only. Another that saves + shows up in stream. (Adding automation on top of it etc)
Quick Question - How hard would it be to set up a "Playback" function into this type of setup? For example, lets say you were streaming a basketball game and you wanted to instant replay the last 5-10 seconds. Would you set up another source in OBS that had a media player and you would then utilise companion macros to get the media player to load and play the latest clip from the folder where the replay buffer saved to? Is that possible?
Hey Alex, great video. Just had a quick glance at the comments and i think i pretty much have the same question as many other people which is on how to setup instant replays for example for sports. Would you need extra hardware or wouldthe Atem and OBS be enough? Thanks for the videos, they're really helpful
Thanks so much for the comment. So it would be technically possible to do yes without extra hardware. You can program OBS to automatically switch to a scene and start playout out the replay clip via a HDMI ouput (which you then send to one of your ATEM's inputs). The things to consider with this is that it is a bit clunky, and also because OBS is recording your ATEM's program output, when you playback a clip that is what will be recorded. So yeah I probably wouldn't recommend this method, but it is possible if you want to experiment with it yourself :) Hope this helps. PS if you search for OBS Replay tutorial on RUclips there are some good ones out there showing the process & scripting needed to get that automatic play function after hitting the save replay button :)
@@AlexPettitt hey Alex, thanks for the reply, really appreciate it. yeah it does sound a little clunky but it's definitely an option. What extra hardware from blackmagic would you recommend for this to work better?
That would require a more advanced replay unit capable of ingesting multiple individual cameras and playing them back. VMix Replay is probably the most cost effective solution for something like that :) Hope this helps
@@AlexPettitt Thanks Alex... :-) I've a projet with volleyball play in a month.. and I would need at least 4 camera instant replay... Now, in the projet, I'm using the Aaron Parecki solution with Hyperdeck and a macro... (1HD per Camera.. ;-) ) Thanks. ruclips.net/user/liveKQJGemhPWjs?feature=share
Do you connect the Atem mini using the UVC (universal Video Class) USB-C? If so, how is the quality? I think it is a very compressed very inneficient MJPEG which has lower quality than uncompressed HDMI o SDI. Is that so?
@@SportFlow I’ve found that with tweaking to the input setting in OBS it actually can be pretty high quality. A lot of it is to do with colour settings tooo. I might make a video on it at some point
I realized today that Shadowplay doesn't support Surround so I found OBS as the Solution. Say. Your Audio Encoder is CoreAudio AAC. Mine says FFmpeg AAC. Is that fine?

Eposvox has many video for instant replay.
Especially for gameplay and with slow mo
Is there a way to do instant replay? It would be handy for things like Rodeos where you may want to do instant replay for the 8 second ride
Hola, se puede configurar un tercer multiview al atem 2 e/m ?, Muchas gracias
This is brilliant, thanks Alex, can this be done simultaneously with a few cameras, or only one?

Is there an easy way to bring the replay into OBS when streaming OBS, without having to select each new file manually each time?

You can do it both ways, take a HDMI out into something like a CamLink or UVC direct from ATEM. Both methods will work fine :)
