Hi Beachgirl...that is great that you have that memory of being an extra in the movie, what were you dressed as at the party, I actually have the movie on blu ray disc, I will look out for you next time I watch it! So filming all in Majorca? Is that right? or was the party scene at a studio set?

well the cinematography is quite lush...it is a good looking film, the two main characters are very glamorous and beautiful, I think Michael Caine is wearing more make up than his leading lady though. The soundtrack by Bond composer John Barry is great, so I quite like watching this movie, I've seen it a few times, I have it on blu ray mainly because I like the visuals and soundtrack, it has its flaws and a few naff moments but there are quite a few things that work very well, I like some of the scenes and I like the performance by Eric Portman. I think for modern day audiences it will not work for them at all, the language of cinema was very different back then, as was the pacing, compared to modern movies this one would seem at a snails pace, I don't think modern audiences would have the patience for it to be honest, but if you want to watch a beautifully photographed film set in Majorca with some beautiful looking characters and a great soundtrack, it is worth watching, a bit of a nostalgia piece really. Don't ask Michael Caine about this movie though...he considers it to be one of the duds that he made in the 1960s , but I think he has made a lot worse films than this one to be honest.

I loved the movie sound tracks played on the radio, most of which were by John Barry.
Most of the movie theme music played on the radio were European movies of 60s and old American movies.

Evocative of late sixties, starring Michael Caine in his prime, wearing plenty of eye-liner and lipstick. A year later he appeared in the wildly entertaining "The Italian Job". In contrast, this concoction comes no where near, though here he gets to drive an E-type Jag. Stylish in parts, but ridiculous in others, and slow throughout. The intrigue may keep you watching to find out what happens, but really, in the end, it doesn’t add up to much. That said, bearing in mind the morals of the 60s, the sexual antics would have been more risqué then than now. Ultimately, though, in the days of double-bills at the cinema, this would have been a definite B movie, and deservedly so.

We can't afford it now. But personally I prefer a nice top with jeans and running shoes, or in summer a nice top with cut offs and flipflops, or hiking sandals. With the active life I enjoy, and which you must have, to stay mentally and physically healthy and not get grossly fat, anything else is just not practical.
Others might remember how you dress (or dressed) to a minor extent, but that isn't a bit important. What's so much more important is what you do and what you did, the relationships and experiences you had! That's what you'll remember, and will be remembered about you. When you're older especially, the things you wish you had done but didn't, and things you regret not doing, will be the things that haunt you, not what you wore.
There are so many things that seem to conspire to prevent us from living the lives we want. There is no way on earth I'm going to give up any of what there is left to me, for the sake of clothing. It's important to be neat and clean, and choose things that fit you well. And I love color! I'm a fairly fussy about my tops, in that I like them to be stylish. I don't like Tshirts much, or all the time on women or men, especially not tight necked ones. But above all, comfort and functionality are what matters most. Soft, cool fabric and lots of pockets.
Women never did dress like what the movies show, except the very rich. We really have had no choice. Sure I wish I'd had the chance to really dress up nicely, which I've never really had, but of all my regrets in life, that one holds very little importance. Even as a woman in my 20s, which were the best years appearance wise for us all, my appearance was always less important than what I was doing, and wanted to do.
But my hair now. That's totally another story! LOL! There WERE some tears shed over that! And a bit of time and money spent. But I'll spare you details. LOLOLOLOL! 🤣😂🤣😂🤣

Yes -- But we must not stop there -- The scenery which is photographed in this film is beautiful and it does create a romantic mood -- but modern films do lack that romantic representation of scenery -- What is the explanation? -- The more romantic presentation of the scenery in those earlier film must have something to do with the higher standard of training of cinematographers and film directors.

I'm reasonably healthy for my age at 63, but due to decades of ill health earlier, I look very old, and people are always calling me old, and treating me like I'm 90. I would do anything for the $ for a facelift, even sell my body! But nobody would want it.
I wish now that I had done that while I still could! Instead I gave it away for free to 2 men who both turned out to not be worth it. It would have been a lot better to sell it for fairly big bucks, and no more unpleasant at all. If only I could have known then what I know now.
Most of the stuff we were taught as kids was completely untrue and useless, including most of the morality, especially the sexual morality! We women have been ripped off by life in almost every regard.
If I could make big bucks now, I'd do whatever it takes. I make about $20,000 a year now. If only I had $60,000 a year for the next 10 years I'd die so freaking happy!

As Michael Caine explained himself, his blonde hair and fair complexion made his face disappear in front of the camera. The make-up just might be a little heavy here. Also, after years of rejection, Caine was happy to get whatever work came along. He is still good in this rather disjointed film.

Maybe not one of the best Michael Caine films. Bryan Forbes had the occasional success as a director, but i don't think this was one of his best either. Roman Polanski, Alfred Hitchcock or Billie Wilder would have done a far better job.

I watched the whole film hoping it would improve, it was my machonistic nature that kept me suffering. It just kept on going from bad to worse.
The ultimate ending, burying your husband and your lover. A sequel titled "She is young enough to start again." That will bore the pants off

The reason for the muting is explained within a few comments above, but it all relates to audio copyright laws where the movie uploader failed, forgot or couldn't afford to purchase a license, the alphanumeric code of which the movie uploader must post on the website where the movie is being played.
RUclips rightfully enforces these copyright violations, as they don't want to be seen to aide and abet these breaches by uploaders.
That being said....as long as the uploader offers these movies free of charge for viewing by anyone, we really cannot complain about some muted sections of the move.

@@cattymajiv ....unless the movie-uploader buys a license for the copyrighted material and posts the alphanumeric purchase code on the website under "More Information"....in that case, YT checks the license validity and if accurate, won't mute the audio-portion covered by the license-code.

I'm starting to hate RUclips almost as much as Facebook! I can't wait until there is decent competition for it. I donno why some people are nuts enough to actually pay this sh*t company to abuse them. They abuse me for free, but it still p*sses me off!

@@cattymajiv Love your comment. I certainly wouldn't pay a dime to YT. Abusing me for free, like you said, is all they can do. They're chasing me for not watching ads. F'em! Using Brave, my VPN takes care of the chase!

    • @andrep8287
      @andrep8287 Месяц назад

@@cattymajiv ....let's turn the tales around for a minute and assume that you composed certain movie music pieces (although highly unlikely, in your case). Now, after a certain period of time, your primary copyright on these melodies have expired, but these are still your compositions.
What RUclips does is simply protect the original composers of these music pieces. YT will not waste time trying to figure out if someone bought a license to use that music in their 'renamed' original motion picture.
YT uses a different system: If the movie-poster has purchased a copy-right license for 3rd party music used in their video, they must post this/these license #(s) on the webpage where that movie is being shown. (under "More Information" below the movie).
However, if the poster of that movie hasn't included the copy-right license purchase number, YT just simply cuts the sound for that particular section of the movie.
While it is annoying for the viewer, YT protects their own interest by not risking to be included in a copyright-law litigation against them.
But, hey, as other responders to your comment remarked, if you don't like these (tediuois) music-mutings, just go and buy the DVD or watch somethiing else.....really quite simple ;-)
