I started watching you when I discovered your Beatles reactions. I love the enthusiasm and appreciation you express while diving into the boys from Liverpool. It’s true, they took our world from Black and White to Color. So glad you love them!
It was recorded for the sessions of Beatles For Sale I believe. Why not this over the silly "Mr. Moonlight"? Maybe too many rockers on the LP if this is thrown on? They could have still set it aside for a Beatle US-only LP like what happened with their cover of Larry Williams' "Bad Boy" which got put on Beatles VI early on in 1965. Oh well, it saw the light of day officially but not until 30 years later. "12 Bar Original" might have made for a good B-side. It's the sort of instrumental most bands back then tossed off to fill out an album, but the Beatles wrote too many good deep cuts for that so it's probably not a bad idea that this was shelved for Anthology. But like "Bad Boy," maybe it could've been a B-side or deep cut for an American album.
@@dandare42 I think they held back releasing LMKA because they had released too many "rocker" covers; too bad, since it was probably the best of them.
I'm going to assume that was George doing those wonderful, subtle volume swells on the guitar in the 12 bar blues. But man, crank up the Kitty one really loud in your headphones, just like you would listen to Metallica or something, and give it a chance at that level. It's pretty damn amazing for that time. And they all just absolutely kill on it, including Ringo.
John walked the boys into a cramped storage room, known as the “annexe,” located in EMI Studio Two’s control room and played Yer Blues live. That's a talent you can't buy anymore.
Here's another killer mostly unknown early Beatles track, recorded in Germany before they had a Parlophone recordin' contract, an instrumental written by George 'n John: Cry For A Shadow. There is also a fantastic cover version by the San Francisco band Translator to check out...really good.
There were a bunch of releases during the 1980s -- including "Leave My Kitten Alone" -- that were played on FM radio. (Others were a sequence of versions of "Strawberry Fieldes Forever" illustrating how it was built.) "Leave My Kitten Alone" was a revelation -- possibly the greatest "blues shouter" Lennon vocal we have. That's one to put on repeat.
I know I've said this before, but I could watch & listen to you all day long! You love music and the Beatles like I do. Like I always say... "In The Universe Of Rock Music, The Beatles Were The Big Bang!"

@@annakermode6646 Yeah, but that "Leave My Kitten Alone" was a finished recording and yet not released until (when I first heard it) the 1980s, with a vocal like that, is stunning.
This was fun, Lee, thanks for doing these. Your comment about the second song sounding almost like an intro to the first makes sense in that they are both either based on ("Leave My Kitten Alone"), or in whole ("12 Bar Original"), the basic twelve-bar blues model. I sang in high school choir, played around with an acoustic guitar doing mostly soft rock/pop type of songs (think Neil Diamond and Gordon Lightfoot) for 40 years before I even heard of the term "12-bar blues". So... for your listeners that are not familiar with the terms "12-bar blues" and "24-bar blues" (and with GREAT apologies to those that are familiar): They are both in 4/4 time so each bar has 4 beats, and based on the major 1st, 4th & 5th chords in a key, ex. C - 4 bars (or 16 beats), F -2 bars (8 beats), C (2 bars), G (2 bars), C (2 bars). Often they will use the major 7ths (C7-F7-C7-G7-C7), which adds that funk sound to it. In the case of "Leave My Kitten Alone", just double the number of bars each chord is played. Thanks again.
Leave My Kitten Alone! Listen to how they love this song! This is a jealous guy! 😂😀 12 Bar Original doesn’t sound like Beatles… Thank you, Lee and John!
The Beatles had such a great sound that they could sing the phone book and it would be good. Lennon just being a rock singing god. Beatles covers were better than the originals.
Great early Beatles. I haven't heard "Leave my kitten" in years. That instrumental has hints of "Green Onion." by Booker T. You can hear the raw talent that made George Martin sign them.

Both songs experienced tremendous injustice and lay deep in archival darkness, as did songs from the same period - "You Know What to Do" and "If You've Got Trouble". It could have been done to make all those songs crystallize, even in this unfinished form, in my opinion they are better than some songs that were found on the albums Help and Beatles for Sale.
Both could have been fleshed out into deep album cuts, but they were left alone because George had two better songs in the can ("I Need You," "You Like Me Too Much") and Ringo was more suited to singing "Act Naturally" for Help! "If You've Got Trouble" just sounds off, arranged and recorded wrong with that guitar line and the melody being a bit too plain but also tricky for Ringo to sing well. "That Means A Lot" was another where they were trying to go for a big epic but it flopped compared to other recordings from this time (aside from the "Can't you see" outro), however they knew it had potential with another artist so it was given to PJ Proby.
I think George's instrumental break guitaring was considered a little too sloppy for the song to get voted in by the group as a whole to be issued-Leave My Kitten Alone,Im referring to. Same with If You got Troubles.Ringo finally exclaims,"Rock on ,anybody"in the middle of the song. They just werent all feeling it on that one.
Neither John nor George were exactly guitar virtuosos, especially in the early days, but they were ahead of the curve for the time. Both Paul and Ringo outshone them technically.
