Two friends with beautiful voices honored my request to perform this song, at the unveiling of my husband's tombstone. Thank you Annie(aka Ariel) and Leah.
Just played this beautiful song after getting the eulogy of a friends father....I had never heard this and it brought a mild tear to my eye...wonderful ! They played this song at the Funeral and I want it at mine !
Eric, I fell in love with this tune the first time I heard it on the radio. I researched it and bought it. I sing it at the end of every passage we make aboard the Yacht Bella Via. Many thanks to you for your poignant words.
He was one of the finest, and honest, most talented persons I have ever met in my life. I hope so. Surely there must be some young person to sing Vin Garbutts words 🤞
On June 2, 1983, Stan Rogers was aboard Air Canada flight 797 headed towards Toronto, Canada, from N.Y. Someone put a lit cigarette in the waste paper bin on the aircraft washroom. The paper caught fire. The plane made an emergency landing at Cincinnati airport, but by then, Stan along with 23 passengers died from smoke inhalation. As a result of this incident, smoking on passenger airlines worldwide was banned.
If you read the NTSB report on the accident it wasn't a cigarette that started the fire but equipment failure. I flew dozens of times during the 1980s and people could still smoke in the smoking section in the back of the aircraft. It was banned on short flights in 1988 and most other flights by the late 1990s. Tragic death of a great musician.
Thank You for the clarification, just shows how when people get carried away, the story can be totally distorted, and also the flight was from Texas, why on earth would a flight from NY to Toronto go south to make a stop in Cincinnati?
Beautiful!
Wow, what a beautiful song. I lost my partner for over 35 years just before lockdown. Our hero was Vin Garbutt. He just sang songs about life
