EXOL'S I'm in Complete fucking disbelief of the talent that was displayed throughout this video. I feel like I'm falling in love with this group, these guy's are amazing & this was debut?? Unbelievable! I'm so excited to keep listening to this group & also hearing the solo work from them. If this was debut days i can't even imagine what the rest of they discography sounds like.

D.O. stay collecting black and brown people with his R&B/Soul voice. EXO vocals are the jewels in Kpop, bless Teddy Riley for being a part of this production. Pre-debut... They haven't even left the gate yet and came out swinging with just two voices. D.O. is my Whitney, Chen is my Mariah, Baekhyun is my Celine. Their talents unmatched, quality. A group may have 1-2 individuals with vocal agility but EXO is a winning ticket, rare. They overflow my 90's R&B/Soul cup which isn't easy to do. Many artists in groups do solo albums, Taeyang of BIGBANG fills my R&B cup outside of EXO. Taeyang 'White Night' album is a R&B/Soul engineering masterpiece. Many are anointed in Kpop but it's few and far between... you'll feel the gospel when you hear it. Enjoy your EXO journey.

@@Finesseyamina SM Entertainment spends money on quality producers, they are the vocal label. EXO works with people who produced music for MJ, Aretha, Whitney... name a current R&B artist, they've worked with the same producers. A lot of black people are cooking in the kitchen in Kpop. Many people don't realize Western producers create in Kpop... it offers more freedom as well to experiment than in the States/UK. Tracks like 'EXO - Call Me Baby', a Teddy Riley track with 'New Jack Swing' all over it. The same producers who worked on 'Cardi B - WAP' also did 'Taemin - Idea' (SM Artist). 'Baekhyun - All I Got' is a Tone Stith production. The labels have their own producers but the West is also involved and cashing those checks.

Kyungsoo's vocals are the main reason I got into EXO. I was like you the first time I heard is voice. Like wait who's singing like that ? They are all great singers but Kyungsoo's voice, adlibs & runs just hit me different.

It’s like once you hear EXO you really can’t go back, your ears will become spoiled and you’ll always want to listen to vocals that are just as good and in my opinion there isn’t any other group like them, EXO are the first K-pop group I ever listened to and it’s hard for me to stray away because they are soooooo good!

"What is Love" actually features the 4 main vocalists of EXO, so, in the EXO-K (Korean) version you only hear D.O.'s and Baekhyun's voices, but when you watch the EXO-M (Mandarin) version you will see Chen and Luhan as the singers. These are the main vocalists from their respective groups. However, in the MV you see most of the members. The rest of the members aren't singing the song, but they are helping to tell a story.
Although "What is Love" is a love song, the MV really doesn't have a whole lot to do with love. The storyline in the MV is all about EXO's origin story and it is showing the members as they first arrived here on Earth.
This was their very first pre-debut MV -- about 3 or 4 months before their debut with "Mama" -- so it is setting up EXO's storyline and it's showing the members. This was before most people really even knew who EXO were. EXO's second MV, was "History" and it was also a pre-debut song. "History" came out about 2 months after "What is Love."
If you think D.O.'s and Baekhyun's version was amazing, just imagine what Chen's and Luhan's version is like. It has a slightly different feel because it has a sound and style that is designed to appeal more to a Chinese audience, but it's no less amazing. There's a reason why EXO has 3/4 main vocalists.
Now to explain the story in the MV: As you may have noticed, you see an eclipse is happening. EXO's whole concept and storyline is that they are aliens who came to Earth to protect the Tree of Life from the Red Forces. And as otherworldly beings, the members each have a superpower that is specific to them. The eclipse is what controls EXO's powers and it's where they get their power and strength from. So, that is why you see in most of their MVs that they focus on the moon or show an eclipse taking place, etc. EXO are aliens so staring at an eclipse or the sun doesn't affect them in the same way. After all, they come from Planet Exo, which has two suns. LOL
In the scenes were you see D.O and Baekhyun singing that is thought to be showing clues to EXO's storyline, such as the light that is streaming through the holes in the walls is thought to be representing Baekhyun's superpower, which is the ability to control light, and the fact that the room they are in is kind of disheveled could be after D.O. used his power of force.
You also see scenes such as Chanyeol (a member of EXO-K) looking at a drawing of a unicorn and comparing it to a hieroglyph of a unicorn on a piece of rock, which is thought to be something to do with the fact that he is searching for Lay (an EXO-M member). Lay's symbol is a unicorn, which represents his power of healing. I think the rocks are clues that may have been left on Earth or on Planet Exo from ancient times. (You will see these symbols all over the place in EXO content because each member has a symbol that represent them -- as you discover in their "Mama" MVs -- and their symbols are often used kind of like a call beacon. When one member is looking for another member, or they want to send a member a message, you will see a version of their symbol appear. It's a way to know who the message is coming from and it's designed to make everyone aware that it's something important that you need to pay attention to.) Think of the message on those rocks like Egyptian hieroglyphs.
Therefore, I see it as EXO has to find the clues that someone has left from the past. Just like in real life history, often ancient civilizations have left us clues to tell their story in order to make sure whatever happened to them doesn't get repeated. Therefore, I think someone has left EXO clues, just in case sometime in the future the Red Force was able to gain power once again. Hence, why in EXO's next pre-debut song "History" they talk about not wanting to allow whatever happened previously to repeat itself (i.e. they need to stop and prevent history from repeating itself. And they need to learn from history by discovering clues that will help them understand what happened in the past, in order to figure out a way to make sure the same mistakes aren't repeated, etc.)
And because it is thought that the EXO members can travel between time periods and dimensions, this could also mean that the clues could have possibly been left for them by their future selves. The future EXO members have traveled back in time to leave a message for the present day EXO members in order to help them figure out how to stop the Red Force and prevent whatever happened in the future from taking place, etc.
The clues I think are something they need in order to find the Tree of Life and to do whatever needs to be done in order to create peace in the world once again, and free humanity and EXO from the control of the Red Force. Which will allow the Tree of Life to be whole once again and be at peace, no longer being used as a potential weapon by the Red Force, etc.
In reality, I think the Red Force could be thought of as a symbol of all the things society is dealing with in the world and all the bad things that need to be fixed, such as war, hate, destruction of the environment, corruption, etc.
I think SM's wide-reaching message within their SM Cultured Universe and EXO's storyline is the dream of world peace. Therefore, I'm not sure we will ever see an official end to EXO's storyline or the SM Culture Universe story because World Peace is such a lofty goal that will never be accomplished fully. So in other words, EXO's story may be an open ended one that never gets solved.
I think the whole point of SM creating this storyline is because it's supposed to be a social commentary on what real life society needs to learn and do in order to create a better world. Think of everything in the SM Culture Universe, and EXO's storyline, as a metaphor for what is happening all around us every day and what we have gone through in the past and will go through in the future if we don't learn from our mistakes, etc.
In the MV for "What Is Love," you see clips from some of their pre-debut teaser videos. All the clips in the MV are special clips that were originally released one at a time on their own to introduce EXO to the world, before the group's official debut. Before EXO debuted, SM released 23 teaser videos over a 3 month period and the videos showcased the members and their talents, such as Kai's special dances and Tao's martial arts skills, as well as told a story about EXO who are on a quest to find each other and to find clues to locate the Tree of Life, etc. Kai was the member that was featured in the most teasers -- somewhere around 10 videos. The "What is Love" MV takes clips from those teaser videos and puts them together to make the MV.
Months and years later, we have also discovered that the teasers also were teasers to EXO's discography of songs. At the time, when the teasers were released, we had no idea the significance of the songs that you hear in the teasers. But now, over the years, we have discovered that the majority of the songs that were featured in EXO's pre-debut teasers were also meant to be teasers to songs that would be released as some of the main tracks of EXO's albums.
All the teasers are still on SM's RUclips channel if you want to check them out. If you watch the teasers, you will see how planned out everything EXO is involved in actually is. Most of the songs that they released even years after debut were songs that were teased to in their pre-debut teaser videos. That just goes to show you why we say that everything EXO does comes back to their storyline. :D Absolutely everything has been planned out down to the most minute detail for years in advance and for years to come.
However, not all of the songs you hear in the teasers were songs that made it to the albums, or maybe they are songs that haven't been released yet. There are several songs in the teasers that we still don't know. Maybe they are songs that have not been released yet, or maybe they may never exist as a full song. It's another part of EXO's mystery that we are waiting to discover.
So, if you want to follow EXO's story, you have to watch both "What is Love" MVs to see the different clips and try and figure out the story it is trying to tell. EXO's MVs may look similar, but in each version there are hidden messages and Easter eggs that SM puts in each MV that tell a little more of the story, even still today. Plus, in the Korean version they highlight the 6 EXO-K members, where in the Mandarin version they highlight the EXO-M members. It's a common misconception that just because EXO's two MVs look similar on the surface that you don't need to watch both versions, but if you skip the Mandarin version of EXO's MVs -- especially these early MVs when they were still a full group with 12 members -- I guarantee you are going to miss a key part of their story. Plus, you miss out on hearing the EXO-M members and what the song sounds like in Mandarin.
One of the main reasons why EXO is considered as vocal kings of kpop is because they prob have THE MOST proofs of showcasing their amazing live vocal prowess. like the amount of vids of them flexing their vocals live is ALOT, since their debut until now, imagine more than 10 yrs of live vocal content cuz they were alrdy THAT GOOD since the beginning. They actually have LOONGGG compilations of their live vocals bcs that's how good they are. There are alot of grps who have very good vocalists and we acknowledge that but, there could be 1 or 2 main vocalists in the group. EXO tho has like 3 main vocalists who can be considered at the TOP of the best kpop vocalists, and the other members can be considered as subvocalists cuz they all sing, tho they have other positions in the grp too.

Isn't it amazing! like how good they were even before their debut! you know what , despite being soo good in their debut era , EXO never set for that , they challenge themselves, EXO members still go through vocal lessons very attentively and show results in their each new Comeback ,they improve in their every comeback just imagine how great vocalist they are now.And they actually care about their vocal health and good techniques which isn't common in kpop at all(most idols techniques are so damaging and they don't really care too)

One of the reasons why I was in love with EXO and be an EXO-L because of their R&B music beside their great vocals kind of my music. This song made me in love with EXO too.
There was another group with great vocals like TVXQ, Super Junior and SHINee...all from SM entertainment house of kpop vocalists, but EXO really in another level. I learned about EXO discography in 3 months, everything about them and then admitted this is the best kpop group I ever see.

EXO is THE Vocal Kings indeed. This is only 2 main vocalists. There's one other main vocalist, Chen (He just released new album few days ago with Last Scene as title track). Other members are also vocally amazing. 7/9 members of EXO has debuted as soloists (soon the rest too). Imagine how insanely talented they are! Each members has different tone, different style and preference in music but when they're together, their harmonization is impeccably beautiful..
I suggest you do your EXO journey chronologically so you can see their growth and improvement as an artist..

Solo songs R&B there are Baekhyun's Un Village and Bambi. Rock Ballade is Baekhyun's song Hurt, which is a duet with a female rock singer. I think you will also like Kai's songs MMMH and Peaches. And I can recommend FILM:Kai which are samples of his mini-album. I think you will love both Baekhyun's and Kai's songs.

I never looked at saying someone's eyes is (chinky) as a derogatory term, cause I don't just say that about Asian people. I know plenty of people whose eyes are extremely slanted and they are not of Asian decent. So my thing is would be be offended if I was talking about someone who wasn't Asian. Reason why i said that about Min is because out of all the members i noticed his eyes are extremely slanted in such a pretty way. A lot of the times while recording you kinda just be talking and ranting without paying attention sometimes of what you saying😂But I digress Chile lol.
