    Bad guys go to where good stuff is. Very true and the harder you can make it to steal the better 👍 any deterrent is better than none

    We actually just put a Ring Camera with a solar base on it on our rig. It’s sad that we need to do these things but it definitely gives us peace of mind. We did an install video of it too. Super easy.

      We just added a WYSE Door bell and another motion light to the front door of our rig. I think our friends are doing the same. For a few buck at least it adds some peace of mind. Thanks

    Well, if you're in the Portland area, would they punish the "roaches" even if they catch them? Nice street scene that you showed. That's how I remember Portland. The armpit of Oregon.

    • @HappyPlaceDiaries
      @HappyPlaceDiaries  3 месяца назад +1

      They wont punish them for certain... and yes we agree Portland has become a dump. Its sad because it used to be such a nice city. We live 20 miles out of Portland and never go there unless we absolutely have to. Thanks

      @@HappyPlaceDiaries I was shocked by what I saw just driving through Portland on the freeway last year. It was worse than anything I've seen in SoCal.
      Sad that the authorities choose to do nothing.

    Oh WOW! So sorry this happened to you. We have our Cougar 5th wheel in a pretty good storage facility about 15 mins. away from our home for the past 3 years and knock on wood, we have not had any issues with theft/break-ins. There are a lot of Class A's, C's, and a few boats in this storage facility and thankfully no box vans or any "undesirable" vehicles are stored there. We have to go through 2 electric gates to get to it and I used to complain about how inconvenient that was but after seeing this video, I will complain no longer. The other upside to this place is it has cameras everywhere. Now a buddy of mine has his utility trailers stored in an "undesirable" facility with broken down vans, limo's, school busses, tiny houses on trailers and god knows what else is there and he has a pipe running through his rims from one side of the trailer to the other with a padlock on each end of the pipe. This prevents his trailer from being moved until you remove the locks.

      @HappyPlaceDiaries  3 месяца назад +1

      I like the rod between wheels idea. It's awesome that you guys store your rig in a great place. Our friends just got their Cougar in an amazing storage facility.. they can now rest easy knowing their Trailer is protected. Thanks for watching, we really appreciate it.

    I would add, to change the locks on your storage doors and main door. Pretty much all the manufacturers use widely used locks, so many people will have keys that open the doors on your rig. I changed the door lock and changed the storage door locks to unique barrel keyed locks. I feel much better that my doors are secure when I leave my rig.

    I have a friend whose 5th wheel triple axle top of the line trailer was stolen. That hit close enough to home for me. Do all of the little things: Airtag or equivalent gps tracking devices hidden in the unit, configured to alert you if they ever start to move. Chains/cables and locks through the vent holes in the wheels - try to make the layout so that bolt cutters cannot easily get at them - orient the weakest link on the inside of the wheels or wherever it is toughest to get at. Lock both the release latch and ball socket of the hitch. Lock the front lift jack handle at full extension using the safety chains/lock and hidden switch to shut off power if the jack is electric. This also goes for your tow vehicle - wire a hidden under dash shutoff switch for your electric fuel pump. Alternately, just identify the under hood fuse for the fuel pump, and put in a blown fuse when you are storing it - even if they steal your keys, good luck going anywhere.
    A motion sensing alarm triggering a loud air horn would also be nice - just make sure it is not too sensitive as to be triggered by wind/nuisance trips. I'm thinking of something simpler like a self contained battery and horn that could be mounted to the under frame above and in front of one of the wheels . The trigger/switch would be a trailer breakaway switch also mounted to the under frame with the breakaway trip cable running through one of the wheel vents. Adjust the trip cable tension so that you get about a 1/2 revolution before the audio hell breaks loose.

      WOW! Great Comment... lots of great points! Sure has got us thinking about how we secure our rig. Thanks for the amazing comment.

      @@HappyPlaceDiariesYou are welcome. I forgot to mention that the intent of of using multiple methods makes your rig less likely to get stolen, but you also want to minimize the amount of time required to set up these deterrents. Get a multiple of keyed-alike locks. The goal would be 5 minutes or less to set up your vehicle for safe secure storage.
      These RUclips channels are great for sharing info that will help others. Thank you for your video.

    This stuff turns my stomach
    I had my 86 Freightliner stolen and the sob only got 18 months.
    But I might add, make sure you have appropriate insurance incase something horrible like this does happen.
    I would probably pull the wheels/tires off, or atleast one side. Make it untowable.
    Hope your friend gets it fixed & is able still enjoy it.
    I chuckled when Teresa poped up from behind you guys.

    Outstanding video Jerry. There are people with nefarious intentions everywhere. We probably wouldn’t buy a house in a neighborhood that has houses with junk cars all over the place but we all have ended up in an RV Resort that turned out to be a 1970’s mobile home park when you arrive.
