The last time I played a wii was probably back around 2010. Here we are 10 years later and I’m 17 and I still remember that sound. It proves how nostalgic and amazing the Wii is.
It’s 7:30 am on Saturday morning. You wake up and run to the living room to play some wii. You turn it on, desperately waiting to beat that one level of Super Mario you didn’t get to last night. You excitedly grab a remote. You turn on the tv, and you click the black screen blocking you from the main menu of the system. Suddenly, as if a gunshot has gone off, the wii startup sounds roar in the house and you rush to turn down the tv. You try to find the remote, but fail, and run to the tv to turn it down manually. You are sure the whole house has heard this by now. You stand there, thinking and reflecting upon your life up until this moment. You hear the sound of your parents getting out of bed down the hall. Death is inevitable.

The Wii Sports channel flashes in the upper left corner of the tv screen, waiting for me to select it. The Wiimote, still strapped to my wrist, shut itself off a while ago to conserve battery. I don’t have student loans. I don’t have to worry about rent. I don’t have to worry about money. I don’t have to worry about school nearly as much. Life is simple. Life is easy. Life is good.

I remember when I went to go play my Wii last year and my brother and I had been using the TV the day before and the volume was at 100 (we were playing PhaseShift on our TV and had custom volume stuff). I completely forgot about it and I press the Wii remote button, and once I heard the click noise, I knew I messed up and ran to the TV and shouted “OH NO”, but before I could turn it down or grab the remote, it blasted right into my ears since I was right in front of the TV. This console is nostalgic but also a menace for its loading sound but I love it nonetheless.
We had a party that night and we forgot to turn it down because it was at 50% volume when I turned on the Wii at 12am, it blared through my house. My nom woke up and I got in trouble. Ah, fun times.
I haaaaaate this sound! It is so shrill and shakey. It reminds me of a Karen not getting her way at like.. Macys and getting choked out until she stops squaking!
You could never play this at night time without waking up your parents like damn 😂 my tv volume was only on like 4 and it still managed to somehow jump scare me being so loud
