Hamster & Gretel by Dan Povenmire (Phineas and Ferb, Milo Murphy's Law) is the newest Disney cartoon on the block. Time to talk about it.
Had quite a few thoughts on it this summer and I wanted to talk about some of the stuff that I saw when I see this show. There's a lot of stuff that affects how it's seen and even if people criticize it, it rarely addresses factors underneath the surface. So, this is an attempt to do that.
I can't promise to bring incredible insight or anything. All I can say is that this is an honest interpretation of the show and what it's gone through pre-release. That's why the runtime as is long as it is lol

H&G is a show where, although I was def underwhelmed by how it started in a lot of ways, I see enough of a groundwork within all that roughness to at least want to see where it's going and if it could gradually improve on itself. It helps too that the Dwampyverse is rather fresh on my mind right now so I'd naturally want to see Dan continue to see success.
Twas quite nice to see someone really look at this in the context of the bigger picture.
It’d be funny if they pulled a milo Murphy’s season two where a character from the previous show pretty much takes it over .
I'd be down with seeing Meep get in on the alien plot.

Milo Murphy and Phineas & Ferb just had better starting episodes that sold the concept. It'd just be more simple if there was a dedicated origin story episode to setup what's going to happen for the next episodes. I don't expect the cartoon to be a serious superhero show, but I think it would have to take some aspects from how the start of superhero cartoons usually are.
You know what? If Hamster and Gretel gets renewed for a third season one day, then they could do a crossover will all 3 Dwampyverse shows. It can feature Hamster and Gretel bringing Milo and the gang back to Earth.

I found Murphy's law to be kind of boring because the formula seems to fall on it's self and it doesn't know what to do. at least with Phineas and Pherb characters have memorable moments. Despite all episodes following the same formula of Phineas and Pherb create a Machine but Doof destroys it so candace can't blame her kids.
Honestly I thought the show was okay
I think the problem is that this show’s quality sits at around B or C tier so far while P&F and Milo Murphy are closer to A or S tier and fans are naturally disappointed. That disappointment just led to vitriol and bitterness, kinda like what happened with Teen Titans Go
I think a B standing is fair for this show. It's his weakest project but that's saying much considering his track record. This still good and worth watching nonetheless
Watching it for the first time now so far I kinda like it.
One thing I can't wait to get focus besides the aliens giving people superpowers, is that Hamster seems to hate Kevin. Like he actively goes out of his way to make Kevin miserable and be disrespectful. I wonder what's that backstory
I like it. Its pretty funny. I miss the hand drawn animation of Phineas and Milo. It looks rigged. Harmony animation is one of my Pet pieces but some shows can make it work like Molly McGee and The Snoopy Show.
I think Dan Povenmire's work feels like Seth McFarlane's shows.
Like the first series was more funnier, creative and entertaining, while the others are just... dumbed down.
I wouldn't call Milo Murphy's Law and Hamster And Gretel dumbed down, but they definitely have a different vibe due to Jeff Swampy Marsh not having as much involvement. When Milo was still running, Jeff made a preschool show for Amazon Prime Video called Pete The Cat through his production company, and thus he wasn't as involved with Milo. With Hamster And Gretel, he's only doing voice work, but is otherwise not creatively involved due to how he's developing his own show for Disney Junior called Hey AJ.
Nope, that's not the case here.

It gets better after the first episode and has a good comedy and action base witch I think this is my second favorite of the shows

Hamster and Gretel is just decent, but I think it just lacks those super memorable characters right out of the gate unlike Phineas and Ferb.
Honestly one of my biggest problems with this show is Kevin's design. He looks kinda generic (even more so then the characters of MML) and the colors are just...bizarre. Like it's a weird mixture of Brown, Orange, and Green which are colours you don't usually see go together and the colors shades don't even look that nice, they're very desaturated and don't really pop at all.
at least the cast of characters in this show are different enough. In milo Murphy's law they all felt generic.
I like Kevin's design personally. What I don't like is Gretel's design with her hair having no detail and missing eyebrows

I think that was the point of Kevin, where he's just some high schooler who didn't even get superpowers yet still tries to be a hero. Or at least the guy in the chair, like Ned in spiderman
