  • On this very special edition of Fortune Hunters, we repair my Minelab Explorer. I go through the step by step control panel replacement in real time, pretty much, and we find out if the fix works. This wouldn't have been possible without the help of legendary detectorist, Tony Hunt and www.detectorbits.co.uk so, good luck with your repair and be sure to go slow and be very careful if you are indeed fixing your Explorer.

I had the same problem for a long time. Clean the battery terminals and that's it!! Use some steel wool and make sure to clean them well.

Wow, Thank you so much.fantastic info! Great to know that some repairs are available. The Minelab company says that can not get mother board or circuit board parts for the XS anymore. If you send it back to them they will try to repair it, but admit that they can only do so much. So let's hope our Explorer XS detectors never develope any serious problems, or we might be just out of luck. Thanks again, and HH!!!

Nice one. Best to point out which side of the fascia to lift first (LEFT) if you're not 100% certain the fault lies with the button fascia plate you don't want to damage that connector. Thanks for posting this repair. Anyone in UK selling a working Minelab Explorer XS/SE give me a shout : )

I like the pinpointed mod placed on top of the unit. Doesn't it add weight to the machine though?...or do you find the placement at top "balances it out"?

The pinpointer doesn't add much weight. It's a nice, out of the way spot and I've gotten quite used to it. If I ever get a new machine, I will find a way to mount the pinpointer in the same spot. Thanks for watching!

gdvlman That's the best sammich you'll ever eat! I love my Explorer but it is getting old. I'm the type to squeeze the last bit of juice from the lime though. It's either a CTX3030 or an XP Deus next. Thanks for watching man!

that good to know I have an explorer II that has some screen wear and could be an issue for me in the future.

DDM Metal Detectives It's good to have options and this fix is much cheaper than getting a new machine. The new panel cost me around 70 beans.

No problem! Hope it helps. Just take the repair slow and don't force anything. Slow and steady wins the race! Happy hunting!

Yipes! I'm sure you will be able to fix it if you are careful. Just take it slow and use a magnifying glass and go very slow. Good luck.
