The Original Lassie was played by a male dog called Pal in The 1943 Movie Lassie come Home with Roddy Mcdowall which was 70 years ago. Rudd Weatherwax who owned and trained Pal used mainly male dogs to play lassie in future films and tv shows after Pal retired with only using famale collies occasionally for close ups.
Rudd. Weatherwax used male collies to play Lassie as male collies don’t “blow” their coats like female collies ! Male collies look more beautiful as a result!

This movie is now 50 years old, and the beautiful Collie that played 'Lassie' in it is long gone. But as long as we still have this, and all the other film / videos of the Collies that played her in years, or even decades long passed, we can watch her, and enjoy her, for the VERY good 'girl' that she was ! :)

@@tommas2674 Jon Provost, who played Timmy, is turning 73 years old in March of this year (2023). He has an official website where you could 'catch up' with him and his current activities.
@@voiceofreason7856 thank you. Lassie reruns were my favorite and a little boy neighbor of my was a clone like of Jon.
@@tommas2674 You're welcome. I've had several Collies over the years, from the same breeder, but my current Collie, my fourth - who just turned 3 years old in December - looks like a clone of Lassie. He's the same sable and white colour, and he's got the full white ruff around his neck, pure white front legs ( like every Lassie had !!) The only thing he hasn't got is the white 'blaze' marking on his face. Those "Lassie Markings" of his get him out of trouble - a lot ! When the breeder sent me his picture, at just a few weeks old, in full running stride no less, I emailed back quickly " That's my dog ! Please reserve him for me !" LOL..... ;)

When I was little, btw, I have never been dog brave, we would get lots of wild life, but one day a very tall thin starwberry blonde and white collie showed up Beautiful. I called my mom, mom who is not a dog lover she always said, but, brought her in, She was a tall but not filled out puppy and loving. One day when we got home from school though she was gone. Mom said she was sick and took her to the humane society. I don't know about that. ? No one had said they lost a dog/collie.

I'm 72+ and grew up living this show. I had a lassie dog for a while but he was run over accidentally. So my grandma got me a horse for 4h. Miss those days sometimes.

I was seeing this film with my younger brother waaay back when it was 4 episodes of the last season of the Lassie TV show. My brother had seen these dog-stories enough to predict that the first thing Sally would hear after her operation would be the dog barking. He hit the nail right on the head.. :-)

Those beautiful classical times women and men were dressed very descent! American English was different in those classical times! I ONLY LOVE CLASSICAL TIMES. I hate modern times of today! Everything is so bad today!

Recognize some of the young actors who have grown. Collies don't make that constant whimper that makes it seam they are talking.
Pity that microchipping wasn't around in the 1970's, they could have traced where Lassie came from and reunited her with her owners
