Janis Joplin appeared at Woodstock in the late hours of Saturday, August 16, 1969. She performed until the early morning hours of Sunday, August 17. Despite her reportedly not even knowing of the festival's existence, the Woodstock promoters were advertising her as a headliner. She thus became one of the main attractions of the historic concert.
Joplin informed her band that they would be performing at the concert as if it were just another gig. When she and the band were flown in by helicopter with the pregnant Joan Baez and her mother from a nearby motel to the festival site and Joplin saw the enormous crowd, she instantly became incredibly nervous and giddy. Upon landing and getting off the helicopter, Joplin was approached by reporters asking her questions. She deferred them to Caserta as she was too excited to speak. - Видеоклипы
"Who you are is what you settle for, you know?"
- Janis Joplin
Tesla said it great also you know it's not what you got it's what you give, it's not the life you choose but the life you live. Life takes us all in different directions. But don't judge, don't let anyone steal your joy but most of all love everyone, you don't have to like their ways but love them.
Who u r is whAt u settle 4, ya knw!!!...(:
Hey There Darlin', Thanks For The ❤️ that you gave me!!! Have A Great Nite Stay Strong Blessings Always!!!💖☮️
❤👍
Good Evening happy time werner
I am a 68 year old Canadian and I saw Janis perform at Woodstock '69, and yes I was a hippie. I missed the first day of the concert and the rest (including the rain) was awesome. I feel truly blessed to have been there to witness such a spectacular event and see Janis and the other performers putting us into a frenzy enjoying their music. Obviously, the best music time of my life and there will never be another Woodstock '69 and that is sad. One thing we do have going for us "old hippies" today is a girl named Courtney Hadwin who is on Americas Got Talent, and I can definitely see a lot of Janis in her. RIP Janis.....you will never be forgotten in this crazy musical world we now live in.
I was born summer of’69 and love this music too! Today I am driving from Baton Rouge to New Orleans to listen to some soulful blues by one of my favorite singers! Cheers!
Lucky Prick.
Wow
If you were at Woodstock, you should remember that Janis was drunk the entire time - that's why there is no footage of her left up it was all taken down.
I' m 68 years old french woman.......JOE COCKER and JANIS JOPLIN and Jimmy Hendrix and Joan Baez and BOB DYLAN and many many artists are my friends.............REMUMBER FREE WOMAN and Peace and Love
I was there. Even though the weather was awful, I didn’t mind. Never again will music like this happen. Never again will people be able to together and not have anything but peace, love and the best music ever. And we were lucky enough to have been there.
I was there and loved every minute, there was more respect there than what we have today, Janis was so high she just blended in, she even walked in the crowd before performing asking people if they had enough water as she was playing late at night and damn she played until the sun rose...wild... and you know we all slept fine...would never give up my days of being born in 1950 EVER...you guys have NO idea...Live aid Montreal hell of a ride to, Elvis, Kenny Rogers, Johnny Cash, Charlie Pride, Irish Rovers etc etc...anybody who was somebody we seen for almost FREE...you can have your shit music of today paying thousands to listen to people with NO voice because of Auto Tune...
Hahaahaaa!
I love it!
U hit the nail on the head!
Wasn’t born till ‘71 but I love the music I grew up listening to it all!
Preach 🤩
I agree with you.. ❤️ ❤️
I fucking love this comment so much
Mister, I’m three years behind you and you speak the absolute truth. Nothing in our lifetime will ever equal these times🙏🙏
I'm 29 years old and I can't even to pretend to compare music from then to now. Her voice and spirit lives in all our hearts one in a million.

My dad has a friend who was there and he had fun...
***** and still many had fun... and when I go there knowing of it, where is the problem?
*****
Damn, no, I would never travel to this hellhole, every person that was there has deep regrets.
That's also the reason they still speak of it today...
have u been there?
no sorry, answer or not, I'm done...
+James-Euro Bond THE SAME FOR ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How can anyone give Janis a thumbs down?😕
White girl had a voice. And style
How can thinking people expect that everyone should like the same thing? Are you a child?
GODDESS
She burned her candle at both ends, it could never last the night but to her foes and to her friends, it gave a lovely light.
Bless you, pet.
I'm eternally grateful, at 85 years old, to be able to have all that great music available, albeit not perfect. She was and is a beautiful spirit. Thank you, Janis, we love you still. Babala
+barbara Massey ,i'm 70 now and been lovin R&R and Blues since i was 10 hearin it back in 1955, keep Rock Rollin.

This, my friends, was MUSIC.
It sure was!
YOU are correct.
It's 2017 and this song by Janis can still move me to tears.
2022
2022!
2023
I was born 1969. I wish i had a timemaschine to see & listen Janis & some other the great artists. She's a wonderful singer! 🙏👏
59. Was 10. Love this era
Born in early 1960s here.
I was 12, not old enough to go to WoodStock! 😢
It was a musically magical time. I was 14 in 1969 and all of our radios were blasting Woodstock live. We had the best musicians, son writers and performers in history. I listen to the $h!t that people listen to today and there are a few born after the ‘70s to hat get it. I respect them for finding the best 🎸 🎵 🎸🎵🎸🎵
I am sooooo glad I was born during this era !! Great times !!
Ha 4561z my number n ha a grandson hendrix keep it real peace
Best concert ever on this earth... No one can come closer this days... That's where America started... that was life....
"Bobby" McGee" was first recorded by Kris Kristofferson,
and covered by the late Janis Joplin & The Full Tilt Boogie Band in 1970...
(which became the very last hit song before she passed away in September, 1970)
Janis's version soared to the top of the charts in 1971.
R.I.P. Janis
Yes He did write the song, but Roger Miller recorded it first in 1969, Janis in 1970, and Kris in 1972 ✌️
BEST SONG EVER . I AM 67 AND HAVE THE SAME FEELING FOR THIS RIGHT NOW IN 2020
Brings me back, I fell in love with Joe Cocker the day he hit the stage at Woodstock. He and Janice shaped my music foundation, Forever Grateful!
Janis Joplin is queen on true music forever
She got me through college in 1986. Played the record over and over. Love her.
Thanks to the documentary movie, I have proof that my momma took me as a very young kid of 3 to Woodstock. My mom is scene 19 times in it and it shows me dancing naked as a kid with no worries in the world. This will always go down as the best ever concert! It will never be matched again!
Sweet sweet Janis...whenever I hear her sing this I get chills!
Oh my God I wish I could have been there! I was on vacation in Mexico with my parents at the time. (I was 15) When we got home every body was talking about Woodstock and it took a while for me to realize what that was. Janis is, was, and forever will be the QUEEN!! I grew up in Port Arthur, too
Never be another Janis or another Woodstock!!! That'll go down in history for years!!!
Sharon Queen lol...it is history darlin
For ever
when the movie Bohemian Rhapsody came out and they were talking about Live Aid being the best ever - I commented "no - there was better than Live Aid - there was Woodstock"
Forever!!
I was 18 yrs, old at Woodstock and 50 something at the first Indio,Ca. Coachella Valley Music Festival and had to laugh at them cause there will never be the love I saw at Woodstock. Yes some will say drugs were around and the EMT's were busy that happens all over the world. But the music there was the best then and even now.
I grew up in the 60's and most of us were not aware that people like Joe Cocker and Janis Joplin would become legends. Most of us were not fortunate enough to attend their concerts either and there was little television coverage. Only 45's. Now, looking back on these old videos, I can see that much of our generation also missed out on their true greatness when they were alive.
TheRudydog1 I’m with you here.
I worshipped Kris K. ,who wrote the lyrics.
mona2242 Janis, she was one of the greatest I often wonder what would have come next from her and from Hendrix too. Rip to you both. And yes Kristophersn penned this great song which has been an inspiration in my life. His own expending of this song is also classic.
TheRudydog1 I am 67 and still fond of Janis and Joe .. there are no one like them. Still having the same feeling...!
In the late 90s I was asked by some youngsters “Were you at Woodstock, Brother George?”
“No.” I answered sadly.
“Well why not?”
“Because nobody knew Woodstock was going to be Woodstock until it was over!”
I knew a fellow who had tickets and the closest he could get was 35 miles away.
Am 75 and fall asleep to Janis singing me and bobby mcgee most nights
Man....Anytime I need to feel close to my Mom...I listen to this song and remember her singing it when I was little-! Best Memories...Best Music-!!
Best female vocalist of all time.
Indeed
Was there! There will never be better music nor better highs, 60's 70's and 80's. The music & highs are synthetic now! Long live the Glory Days! When music and people were real! Not the PC crap of today!
There can never ever be a doubt
Not as good as Maggie Bell - Stone the Crows. Maggie has a more gutsy voice and better vocal range.
Absolutely
She was the best female vocalist ever despite her personal life and the money making machine that took over her life. She took her pain and put it into her performance.
Why the director and producers of the Woodstock movie did not include one of Janis' performance in the movie is beyond me! She was not only a gifted blues singer with THAT VOICE of hers she was also one helluva performer! Love and Light Janis... ❤
Unter anderem hat mein Mann dieses Lied unheimlich gemocht..wir haben es zu seiner Trauerfeier abgespielt..ich hoffe da wo Er jetzt ist konnte Er es hören u. ist glücklich!!
now this is music, 60's and 70's most influential music in my opinion
She was the BEST. TOO SHORT OF A LIfe
Thanks for the footage. Yes, I was there...had no conception of what it was gonna be like until I got there...unreal. What an experience. Never forget Janis and Grace Slick on the stage together...they didn't sing together...they were contemplating the probabilities of electrical equipment vs. rain.
no one can sing this better than Janice
pink does a good job
@@christophercantu2744 not as good as Janis!
I'm from afar, from the Ukraine, Gorlovka, this province, it may strange to you but Janis is known all over the world, and my circle of environment, musicians, listen and love Janis, these are the people who created the music that sounds now, it's great people . . . and God gave it to them to create one. . .
nice.
When I think about JJ, and Woodstock, its seems like another life time now. She always gave you a great show, and put her heart into every performance. It was a time when America was at the peak of its greatness, but we also had a war going on that was unpopular among young people especially. We were in our prime, and no one wanted to die in some Godforsaken land, that we knew nothing about, but many did. I was one of the lucky ones who went, and made it back. 58 thousand of my fellow men didn't. RIP old friends, and brave men. I never saw a group of guys who were so proud to live, and so proud to die, than the ones in my platoon.
THANK YOU daniel occoner , and to all of the brave young men who selflessly gave up their lives in order to provide us w/ a blanket of freedom. Your valor & sacrifice will never be forgotten- not yours, nor any other soldier who has given of themselves for the sake of their fellow man.
The American people should have honored the Vietnam Vets to a higher standing than they do (today's) basketball players - sadly...
Despite the War ( at the time ), I'm sure it must have been a GREAT TIME to be alive!
Keep ROCKIN #SOLDIER :)
Trinity, I always felt sorry for the Vietnam soldiers who came home. Not so much myself, I was OK, but many were spit upon, and disrespected, for doing what their country asked them to do. I have a lot less respect for the ones who ran to Canada. Don't hate the soldier, hate the war.
daniel occoner Dude that was moving. US military people are just the best.
ma turner Thanks honey, I wont ever forget those men who died . They were cut down in the prime of life. It was long ago, and its still etched in my mind.
TRINITY HALE With those few words, uou just choked me up mate. Back many years ago when I lived in the US I had several friends that had been 'nam vets. Their stories, the ones they were willing to share, were spine tingling and moving. Your few lines just brought those guys back to me. Go well.
This is the greatest time for a lot of people. She was brilliant.
there will never ever be a better concert.
On July 4, 2014, "Me And Bobby McGee" is one of those songs that come to mind and you hear the voice, lyrics and music over and over. So, I searched for Janis Joplin as the lyrics "Freedom is just another word..." I couldn't recall entirely. Janis lived her life as she wanted. She was reviled by the few, but admired by many.
Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose.
rita sparrow one of my all time favorite lines in music.
This is so true and real. / CD
Written by Kris Kristofferson for Janice
@@thomaslanders6244 and looking over his body of work.. like Sunday morning coming down and more...he was fighting demons..and those make the greatest song writers imho
Brandon Stonner
My Granny used to sing this to me when I was a little girl, I am 32 now and she passed away 3 years ago but I can still hear her singing Me & Bobby McGee! !
She must have been a great grandmother. Sorry for your loss!
Sweet memories
"Me and Bobby McGee" is a song written by American singer-songwriter Kris Kristofferson and originally performed by Roger Miller. A posthumously released version by Janis Joplin topped the U.S. singles chart in 1971. Kris Kristoffersen, quote: "When I heard Janis Joplin's version for the first time, I just sat there and cried. That wasn't a song...it was an experience."
Baddass Grandma...🙏
Equally 45 years ago.. but it was such big event, that it still have impact on music! Cheers from Poland, brothers and sisters! Make peace not war!
R.I.P Joe Cocker . .20 May 1944 - 22 December 2014
You enriched my life. Happy Holidays everyone .
Love Ya'll Janis and Joe. I think my heart is bigger because of Ya'll.
ThE DuCk I met him at the Red River Ex in Winnipeg when he did a concert there. Nice guy as well as talented.
+ThE DuCk He sure enriched a lot of other lives as well
You have some fantastic videos. My memory thanks you!!
+ThE DuCk -- Same goes out to Carlos and Alvin.
So is mine: for some 30 years or more I sing this song to myself whenever I'm feeling sad and down. I sing it with the sounds of her voice in my head. And you know what: it never fails working! Also thanks to George and Ira Gershwin for composing the fantastic tune and making up these soothing words!
It was written by Kris Kristofferson
Except it wasn’t written by George and Ira Gershwin. 🫤
Wow all I can say is so much for posting follow that
*I was conceived at Woodstock, I guess I can say I was there. I now know what my parents meant by the phrase, the world has went to hell in a hand basket. Much simpler times.*
A little over a year after this performance at Woodstock she left us. I remember being upset, sad, and angry. Yet I will always be grateful. Thank you, Janis.
Drove through Woodstock as a kid. Going to the summer cabin. Freaks and hippies all along the interstate. My mother prayed that the wagon wouldn't break down. My brother and I hoped for a flat tire.
a historical gem. May we enjoy her singing always and keep her alive.
Really wish I wasn't born almost thirty years after Woodstock. God, no one understands what I would have given to be apart of the hippie movement and to have been at Woodstock. There's a certain charm to all of it that makes it all feel nostalgic, even when you weren't apart of it. I saw David Crosby live solo about 2 months ago, probably the closest I'll ever come to that dream lol.
Nezaboravna, fenomenalna pjesma i fenomenalna Janis. Ne smije nikada biti zaboravljena.
thumbs up for Janis, was not in that era but am a big fan, RIP Janis
Such a BEAUTIFUL person!
Her voice ... her soulful voice, is just amazing.
She sang when there was no technology, that they use today, that can make anyone a singer.
She was raw, unique and perfect ... yesterday, today and she will forever, live on in her music.
God Bless her, may she rest in peace!
Merry Christmas in heaven, Janis . .
About the time Janis took the stage, I was heading down I-80 towards Ohio, on Sat ,August 16th-with my husband and two young kids, heading for his first job out of college.. We were approaching Lincoln Nebr, when two Old, wildly painted VW vans pasted us, obviously headed for Woodstock! I can see them giving us the peace sign over and over, to the delight of our kids!! I remember it like it was yesterday1
Thank you, Kris, for giving this to Janis.
I was just a kid when she passed, but I love her music so much that I named my daughter after her.
I'm from South Africa.
Wish I could have been there.
But the music keeps me alive .
Memories... I was young and square in '69 but maybe not too square. Always loved Janis and her music. Still do. I admit , some of her tunes are a little harsh on my aging ears, but I still love her and and forgive the things I don't understand about her and her music.Hope I'm forgiven for my lack of understanding. I am determined to try to understand before my time in this life is over. Love you still, Janis. Rest in Peace.
Wow !!! I remember that the late 1950"s and entire 60's was a great time to be alive. It still lives in my memories and its events still impact us today. (Go Sunset Bisons - Class of '62)
Woodstock was Super! I was 15 and rocking peace Janis J and all the gifted performers
I'm very grateful to be apart of a awesome music era!
one of the greatest songs ever sung!! my mama used to sing this to me when I was a tot!!!she still sings it all the time when she thinks no one is lisnin!!!thank you Duck for keeping the music alive!!!Janice passed way before her time!!!!!
I was living in Australia. I would have loved to have gone to Woodstock, so legendary. I'm very jealous of you. What a thing to have as a lifetime memory.
Just one more time. I just had to hear this song from Janis one more time, thank you again my love.
I'd trade all my tomorrows for one single yesterday hearin' Janis sing up on the stage
Brilliant!!!!!!!! I would have loved to be there. Janis had one of the best soulfull voices.
James was the greatest singer in the 1960s I was born in 66 and I was just a little girl I'm 51 now and I still listen to her she is awesome I love you Janis come back
This song takes me back to the early 70's when I first heard it on the car radio going early morning to school with my dad driving and my brothers on the backseat. That's some 40+ yrs ago!
Na voz de Janis essa música ganha vida e toda energia que só ela tinha energiza e faz dessa música um ícone.
there never was anyone before or after janis she was truly one of a kind thabk you lord for giving us the time you did with her
Janis was a special person. My dad knew her well when he was 15 and watched her beach house in Monterey when she was on tour. He’s gone now. I should’ve asked him more about her and wrote it all down.
Merci pour ce partage! que de bons souvenirs c'était ça le bonheur!
I love this song! Thanks for posting it!! I hope you found your peace Janis..
I was born in 1970 and missed Woodstock. Fuuuccck. I wish i could travel back and see it in 1969 the Free spirits the love and the great music. :(
I was 15 in 69, great year , I left school , ran away with the fair, spent some time locked up ( not good ) , So now as I listen to stuff like this with a glass of Bushmills and an empty pipe I think to myself ,What an end to probably what was the best era of music ever
sounds like an interesting youth you had! i've always wanted to run away with the fair
And a colourful life Lucy , No regrets for regrets take up the space for dreams
Love the tune and the video. Thanks for putting in Bert Sommer at 3 minutes and 40 seconds in. I played the guitar with Bert at Woodstock. Very cool surprise to see the video include a quick view of our band! Thanks!
Ira Stone
👍🏻
This reminds me of a time when my older brother turned me on to a underground radio station out of Ann Arbor Mi. where I listened to Woodstock live. I had three brothers one was drafted, one volunteered, one hitch hiked to Woodstock all in the same year.
Did they all return home?
I saw Janis Joplin live at Ravinia, north of Chicago in highland park. anybody else remember being there? That was a great night.
Wish I was at Woodstock... what a privilege it would have been, thank god for RUclips cause I watch Woodstock over n over I love it Janis .... amazing
Love Janis music. One of a kind that's for sure . I listen at least a couple times a week to her music. 💞💗❤🦃
Verdaderamente bueno. Cuando en 1969 en España no nos dejaban oír todo esto y nos teníamos que buscar la vida para escucharlo. Gracias Janis.
I'm here crying!!I love her!!! Was to young back then ,but her since I first heard Bobby Magee !!
I bought the album Pearl and practically wore it out. Just loved her. So so sad when she died.
💕 Music is never the same anymore, this was music, this was true musicians, this was REAL SONGS
where ever you are , you can feel the wind in your hair listening to this
Thankful I was raised when music was real, original, and authentic. Blessed to still be jamming to this @ 63...Love it still
I was 11 years old in 1969. Too young for Woodstock but JESUS!!!!! the music that came outta there. Nothin' and no one can touch it today.
Это было ВРЕМЯ когда ВСЁ было НАСТОЯЩИМ- дружба любовь музыка и вино
was 10 years old and begged my mom and dad to go. we didnt and were sorry. Can liv it thanks to you Thank you so much
I too was blessed to have been there. Amazing and transforming. Let the music live on...
I would go back to 19 yrs old in a millisecond if I could. Best year of my life. 1969. The music the laid back feeling and just a groove. Saw Janis in concert was so terrific and for the day was amazing we rushed the stage to get close. She said "about time" so many people were sitting like on sticks afraid to move. Was the times but soon changed. Fantastic show. Great memories.
Janis - a candle in the wind, so much talent. Great Concert!
Nice memories. Great music.
So awesome. Love it. Thank you. Very good but very sad at the same time.
Oh how i wish i could been there our last bit of freedom thank u for the video
Growing up in the Bay Area, I was blessed to see Janis at her very best….live. I still miss her!
Memories! I was right there! I couldn't see her--only her silhouette--we were standing right behind the stage. If memory serves I think she came on around 6 AM, Sunday morning, It didn't matter we were young and nobody slept. I was 17. Hendrix came on around 8 AM and played that iconic version of The Star-Spangled Banner, never could forget that. We thought we were going to change the world. What happened? Janis and Jimmy were both so outstanding, and both dead at age 26...
The likes of which could never b replicated. The musicians, the event, the era. I’m so jealous of anyone had the great fortune to have been there.
so much talent , every new artiste was groundbreaking, Janis broke hearts.
I was born that year. And still this music made me cry...
Thanks for posting
I was there It was Great !!
the first day getting there we walked and rode on the back of cars when traffic was moving most of the time we walked
alot of rain people turned around and went back because of the rain
not me and Tom we looked at one another and said Hell no and kept Trucking
My mother went to see all the greats. She missed Woodstock, though. I wish I had her record collection. I still managed to have a lot of fun in the 80's, even with the music:)
I will NEVER forget the first time I heard her voice....I have never been the same!!!!!
"Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose", still gets me, just think about it (and there's Seasick Steve: "Started out with nothing, and still got most of it left", good antidote!)
