Lil Durk blew up with Keef and Reese first, and I'd say "Dis aint what you want" was his first commercial hit record. He goes wayy back, he's one of the few artists whos managed to have a rebirth through consistence effort.

Before I watch this full reaction this album was perfect and I think what made this album better even tho it shouldn’t have is Vons death because his manager said most of these songs he did in the first month of Vons death to keep his mind of it

He got real popular then kinda lost momentum bcuz he was signed to Def Jam in the beginning & the wldnt allow him to continue once signed to make the music that he was making when they signed him they tried to turn him into a pop/rap artist & once he was making that type music his core fans started to bk off . However once he got out of the record deal he was free to be himself & go bk to the music that was true to him & thats when he started to gain his original fan base bk & slowly gained new fans also when he brought out King Von & they teamed up as a power duo it blew both of them up all the way to the top & it makes me so happy for Durk bcuz he so deserves all the blessings & to be where he is bcuz he is definitely one of the hardest wrkn & consistent in the rap game also when things wasn't going so great instead of giving up he didn't let that discourage him .

Durk got lit in 2013 for dis ain’t what u want from his mixtape signed to the street (my fav project by him) then he fell off like a couple years later than he got another buzz around 2016/2017. Then the drake co-sign on “laugh now cry later” just solidified him ig n the rest is history

durk became really mainstream around 2020 or whenver that drake song "laugh no cry later" was released but he had some juice early on when the drill scene was coming up in 2013 when chief keef was blowing up durk was also blowing up from songs like "Ls Anthem" or "dis aint what you want"
Durk broke out back in 2012/13 with chief keef but at a small level…chief keef was the one who blew up bigger with “don’t like” and “love Sosa” and other songs durks early songs where dissing his opps… he was big in Chicago but was a small time rapper up until like 2017/18 where his music started to grow and change he was still a smaller named rapper but in 2019/20 with the emergence of Von is where he started blowing up but what really brought durk to the mainstream was his song with Drake “laugh now cry later” and that’s what put him where he’s at now and Von blowing up also helped durk maintain his status
he was pretty big thou dis aint what you want was a hit and he was an xxl freshman in 2014

Very true, that makes a whole lotta sense! None the less it was a very enjoyable album. I think I would still listen to deluxe and original separately though. Even just for the sake of getting through it all in a drive or gym session haha

To answer your question around 8:40, First Durk song i ACTUALLY remember blowing up was “My Beyonce” which was like 2015 or so. He probably had songs blow up before then but I dint rlly remember. I firat started listening to him when I came across the song “hittaz” when i was a teenager and that quite literally exposed me to Modern Chicago rap. I had no real knowledge of chiraq before as Im from lil ole Baltimore. For all i know his 52 Bars coulda been the first to actually blow 🤷🏾

Durk story is deeply tragic from start ! Born to family deep in gangs his father was men behind Larry hoover was doing life but won his appeal got free in 2017 after doing 28 yrs in Feds ! Durk lost more then +30 people ( amongs them his cousin nuski / lately his only brother Dthang /KingVon / his manager ....)

Started rapping at 2010 and blow up in 2012 with chief keef creating a new Genre "Drill" droped his debut album in 2013 going #2 on billbord but when to jail for gun charge and attempt murder ! Prevented him from doing a tour to it and fell off and few months after getting out 1 of his homies and 1 of his blood cousins played with durk opps droped his location and tried to kill him but ended up Killing his cousin Nuski right infront of him that lost deeply messed him up couldn't move on from it ! Few months later they killed his manager lost total of 6 people in just that 1 summer
So he had hard time focusing on music with his street life going after him trying get him killed cause his the bread winner of Bds his set 300
And only in 2018 after his deal with his label was over he started rising up and got Drake attention put him in one of his aong " laught now cry later " that was nominated 3 categories for grammys got him new fanbase keep rising up since then
