- In my crochet tutorial today I'll be showing you how to make this crochet baby elephant applique.
If you would like to view the crochet pattern for free, it's on my website at www.kerriscroc... or you can download it from Ravelry for $1 at www.ravelry.co...
You can also subscribe to Kerri's Crochet Newsletter and get a free copy of the Crochet Cat Towel eBook at www.kerriscroc...
For this pattern you will need grey, pink, green and black 4 ply crochet cotton. A crochet hook, I used a 1.25mm hook. Scissors, thread to sew the ear, eye and flower on the elephant. A sewing needle and a darning needle to weave in ends. A bead for the flower if desired.
The finished size will be 15cm x 10cm (6” x 4”) for the larger elephant, using 8 ply wool. The medium elephant will be 10cm x 7cm (4” x 2.75”) when using 4 ply crochet cotton.

extremely beautiful baby elephant watching and doing thankyou
Thank you
You are brilliant! You inspired me to make a blanket full of animals for my littlest grandson. It just keeps growing. Pkease keep bringing us these absolutely amazing and beautiful tutorials. Much love!
Thank you! I'm glad that you're enjoying the tutorials and I hope your grandson loves the blanket
My grandmother is obsessed with the Big 5. When I was younger and she more able, our family often went to Marloth Park and the Kruger National Park on holidays. Her whole home is filled with puzzles, paintings, art, and statuettes of the Big 5 (and warthogs/meerkats). I recently began to crochet again (I used to only make circles under the guidance of my gran), and came across this beautifully wholesome tutorial.
Now I'm making these for my gran's 80th birthday, and I know it will be special and she will love them. Thank you so very, incredibly much for sharing your knowledge. ❤
I'm glad that you like them and I hope your Grandmother enjoys the appliques.
A big Thank You Kerri. A member of our team is pregnant so as a gift we have crocheted her a baby blanket. We all needed to contribute an animal… you made that possible. Hopefully I can post the photo on one of your social pages.
Thank you Jodie, you're welcome. Congratulations, and I'd love to see the baby blanket when it's finished.
Thank you so much for the very easy to follow video. My elephant turned out great!!!
Wonderful! Great job
Thank you so much for the appliqué elephant - the instructions were very clear
Thank you Terry, I'm glad that it was helpful.
I really liked this pattern but it’s hard to follow. Would there be written instructions available? They would be very helpful. Or maybe adding written instructions on the screen as the work is done? Thank you.
Thank you Renate. I've got the written instructions on my website at kerriscrochet.com/baby-elephant-crochet-applique-pattern/
@@KerrisCrochet thank you so much Kerri, this is much appreciated. I’m sure now I’ll be able to make the elephant. I’ll be adding this appliqué to a baby blanket and I just think it will just fit nicely. Thank you again for your reply and happy crocheting!
Your videos saved me..thanks from the bottom of my heart
Thank you Malavika, I'm happy that they have helped you.
Thank you for the awesome walk through. I made my first ever crochet animal and it was the perfect elephant for my 4 month old grandson's blanket.
Thank you Violet. I'm so glad you were able to make the elephant for your grandson's blanket, I've used it on items for babies.
Hi Kerri your elephant is so cute. Thank you for sharing your beautiful crocheting. I love your work, you are so clever! Keep we’ll catch when you put a new project up. Bye for now Kim.🌹🌷💐🌺🌸 xx

Your instructions are so easy to follow Thanks😊
Thank you Manisha, you're welcome
I’m new to crocheting, your tutorials are fab , thank you for sharing Kerri, and explaining the jargon especially the uk & us it can be confusing … I made your carriage and was made up with myself ..I didn’t think I could do it .. you are really clear with your instructions and not fast when crocheting… Nelly is so cute , I’m looking forward to making her 🐘. Thank you so much , really grateful to you 🧶🧶xx
Thank you Julie. You did a great job, I saw your carriage on Facebook. Good luck with Nelly.
Very cute ! I made this elephant to attach to a crocheted afghan. I made for my daughter‘s baby shower A light gray with pink and white trim and I made my elephant in pink 💕thank you for teaching me how to make this elephant she came out perfect👍
The afghan sounds lovely and I'm glad the tutorial was useful for you.
Are you incorporating it into your Afghan or an applique on your Afghan. I'm trying to get creative and make the elephant larger which I did. And then I'd like it's entered in a row in the center of an afghan and not appliqued on top I'll have to get creative
@@lynncorpron4031 I've only used it on a towel so far. But I'm planning a jungle Afghan and I'll use it on that.
lynn corpron hi I crocheted my pink elephant and then I sewed it on to the bottom right corner of my Afghan
@@wendellmonster6179 Im attempting to incorporate it the pattern. I don't know what it's called but it goes like this
DDDD chch V chch DDDD..im doing 8rows grey 5rows variegated 8rows white x2 then 12rows variegated incorporating grey elephant into it. Then repeat reverse colors rows..im using 3weight...
See I'm kind of new to crocheting my mom was the master crochet or before dementia took her mind and her hands. So I'm naive enough stupid enough brave enough I don't know what you want to call it to attempt to throw this in the middle. I'm working from both sides in towards the elephant and attaching it with like the slip stitch into the pattern. I've no idea how it will turn out. Worst case scenario I'm pulling out 12 rows and attaching it somewhere else
I made it with u while i watch the video,Really this pretty beautyfull baby elephant has too much work that i didnt waited.U must be veryyyy calm and patient dear Kerri for to you can to do this work and bravo to u!
Thank you, I'm glad that it's useful for you and that you enjoyed it.

@@KerrisCrochet you are very welcome. can you do an oppossum? I looked all over your page yesterday...lol. but I didn't see one.
Love this, it’s so cute. However, I’ve never heard the terminology “a joined single crochet” for a decrease before, so that threw me for a few minutes. I looked in your abbreviations but couldn’t find it. So I had to refer to this video for reference as to what you actually wanted us to do with said stitch. Now I know. After years of crochet I’ve learned something new. Now I’m going to continue on with this cute little elephant pattern. 😊
Hello Donna, different terms can cause problems between the countries and even within a country. Hope the elephant turns out well.

Thanks for video very clear instructions

do you know how to make a moose applique? I was thinking for a forest theme or for christmas, love all your videos so talented!!!
I'm not sure, I haven't designed a moose. I can add it to the request list. The list is quite long now so it may take a little while.

I'm making this for my mother she loves elephants ✨💗✨
I hope that she enjoys them Belynda. I do have a few other elephant tutorials on the channel as well.
@@KerrisCrochet i think she will enjoy them. i'm making them flat for her to place her plants on them!
I wish i can see what u r doing. Some closeup of work would b great.
Lovely pattern thank you. I have a question when you make the body and you step and work around do you crochet into front loop of the previous round, back loop or both! Vs ? Many thanks as quite new to crochet
Work into both loops for my patterns unless I say to work into the front or back loop. I haven’t made this elephant for a long time but I’m sure I worked into both loops throughout.
So adorable!! When you are joining the round in the circle for the body...are you joining to the 1st proper stitch or the top of the ch 2? Looking forward to trying out this appliqué 💕 thank you!!
Thank you. I join in the 1st proper stitch not the 2 ch, I’ve found it looks better. Hope it goes well.
os seus trabalhos são muito lindos!
muito obrigado Maria
Очень замечательные работы,но для меня трудный перевод а сам перевод закрывает Вашу работу очень жаль.очень хотела связать.Всего хорошего.
Nice.cute.
Thank you.
So beautiful 👍👍🌹🤝
Thank you so much
"Lefties"
Thank you for your tutorial. I had to stop in the middle though and do the head backwards starting at the top.
(1. join yarn, ch1, sc2tog, sc in next 6 stitches
2. Ch 1 turn, sc2tog, sc, hdc, 2hdc in next stitch, dc, dc2tog...and then did hdc in the last stitch and slip stitched to the top of the head)
I'm Left handed 😒
It must be difficult to work the patterns left handed. I guess for some you would have them facing in the opposite direction.
@@KerrisCrochet Yes, many years ago, I realized with some (not all) written patterns I had to rewrite them. I couldn't figure out why it all looked so crazy. It took a while to figure out that it was a left handed thing. Left to right.
شكرا لكي من القلب حبيبتي انت رائعه وعملك جميل جدا ومميز
شكرا.
Gracias por la traducción al español ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Muchas gracias. De nada
It's so veudefu thanks you
Thank you Isabel.
I would love to make this into a toddler blanket. How would I do that?
Where you wanting a blanket shaped like this blanket and what size would you want?
The camera needs to be closer and with bigger wool/tool. It is very hard to see the fine detail of what she is doing. Otherwise, very helpful.
Thank you.

Hola Kerri!
Love your work.
I'm trying to make this cute elephant but not sure how is the sequence in round 4. the circle is getting a bit wavy
What can I do, please?
Thanks for your videos
Thank you Marilo, our crocheting tension is all a bit different. You could try working 1 dc in each of the next 3 stitches and then 2 dc in the next st instead of working the 1 dc in each of next 2 stitches. Not increasing so much should make your work flat. If it became wavy before row 4 work this row for row 3 as well. Hope this helps.
@@KerrisCrochet thanks a million, Kerri for your help and for quick answer.
I'll follow your advice
Best
Muito lindo ,Vou tentar fazer!!
Obrigado, espero que seja lindo para você.
Que lindo
Amei
Round 1 and 2 were simple to follow two double crochet per stitch. But in round three are you saying every other stitch do one double crochet?
For round 3 work 2 ch, 1 dc in same st as ch then (1 dc in each of next 2 sts and 2 dc in following st) repeat. Hope this helps. I have my patterns on my website, there is a link in the description.
@@KerrisCrochet so basically 2 double, 1 double, 1 double And repeat

Thankyou hope i can do this tutorial too💓
You're welcome. I hope you enjoy making it.

Marlene Francisca Deus te abençoe seus trabalhos são lindos bjos fica com Deus
Obrigado Marlene.
Lindisimo.
How do you tie in the yarn on the back of the little pieces like the eye or flower?
I weave the end through a few stitches and then take it through the last couple of stitches again to make it tight and repeat once more. I crochet tightly so it holds well. Often when the pieces are small I will use the ends to stitch the piece down and weave them in at the back of the main piece in the usual way.
Can u please please do a gorilla I really want to learn to do 1 please I would be so grateful your work is so cute 🥰🥰🥰
I will add it to my request list to do. The list is quite long at the moment so it may be a little while.
Megustaria que se tramitiera en español muchas gracias
Hola, lo siento pero no puedo hablar español. He agregado subtítulos en español usando un programa de traducción de computadora para el video.
What size needle did you use? This is beautiful!
For this one I used 4 ply cotton and a 1.25mm hook. For appliqués I use a size or two finer hook than I would normally use with the yarn to make it a bit tighter.
Muito bom
Obrigada Fatima

Have not got a scooby doo what your doing a tutorial means show what you are doing step by step so we can understand and then go on to make item
I don't have a scooby doo. We have to be careful making characters because of copyright laws. I do have a lot of dog breeds on the channel.
É possibile averlo in italiano?
Ciao Sucia. Ci dovrebbero essere i sottotitoli in italiano nel video.

Olá, desculpe, mas não falo português. Eu uso um programa de tradução de computador para fazer as legendas. Eu espero que eles possam te ajudar.
She is absolutely doing this wrong.
To begin: magic circle and lock it down with ONE chain then 16 dc (double crochet) in magic ring (this is ROUND 1, not “row” 1).
R2- CHAIN ONLY 1! Then 1dc in same stitch as chain, then 2 dc in each stitch around = 32 stitches around
R3-CHAIN ONLY 1!!! Then 1 double crochet in same stitch. 2 double crochet in next stitch, then 1 dc in next stitch and repeat around=48 stitches around
(Always slip stitch in the very first dc at the end of every ROUND.)
R4-CHAIN ONLY 1! Then 1dc in same stitch as chain, 1 dc in next stitch, 2dc in next stitch and repeat around=64 stitches around.
You will also need to do at least 1 more ROUND in order for the coaster to properly fit a coffee mug.
R5-CHAIN ONLY 1! 1 dc in same stitch as chain, 1 dc in next 2 stitches, then 2 dc in next stitch and repeat around=80 stitches around.
You will also need to compensate for a larger head and legs/feet as well. All you have to do is add a couple of stitches to each row.
