Nine Sols is the only game I've 100% in my first playthrough. I absolutely loved every second of it. It's one of the best games I've played and I honestly think it deserves to at least be nominated for best indie game of the year. Absolutely phenomenal
I feel like a lot of people put hollow knight in an almost mythological status where no game can ever be as good hollow knight (except for hollow knight silksong). I think there can be an argument for nine sols being better than hollow knight I personally don't think this is true but in terms of quality there is merit to it.
It’s pretty good though, it was one of the first Metroidvania games I’ve gotten into. I’ve been trying to find a game similar that had that vibe. I’ve bought a fair few Metroidvanias but none have been as good.
Absolutely! There's another Taiwwanese developer out there called Sigono that made the Opus series. It's a really great bunch of story and art focused games! I cried like 5 or six times in Echoes of Starsong. :)
You know that game has a great challenge when you first get beat up in your First playthrough... But than MELTING all Bosses in the Second one. (But some Minibosses still can be pain in the arse btw)
I love rain world and it is easily one of my favorite games of all time but rain world YOU HAVE TO explain. It is probably one of the weirdest games and one of the hardest games to swallow for the average player.
Just finished PoP: The Lost Crown and loved it, especially the parrying mechanic in combat. Been looking for a new metroidvania and I remember this in your last indie games video but now this seems literally perfect to be my next game. Just waiting for it to come to switch now! Amazing video as always and please keep these amazing game recommendations going man.
Hollow Knight even though its not my favorite game (Rain World was literally made for me, that game and its DLC is my lifeblood) I am genuinely shocked at how much better it is than every other game in the genre. Blasphemous (which actually has an audience that claims they prefer this game) and especially Grime two others I played were so far behind on so many levels for me that it really made me appreciate Hollow Knight even more. Blasphemous in particular pissed me off because it forces you to replay the game on NG+ to access the DLC, and I'm not doing that, despite it apparently being the best part by far. I would love to play Nine Souls but unfortunately can't at least not for a while because I primarily play on Console with a fairly weak old MacBook that would incinerate itself upon touching the game but I'm shocked almost no one is claiming its better than HK. I thought that maybe it would be a fair mix, but no I've seen absolutely no reviewers say its better. The thing is to me HK never mastered one thing to the point of perfection and to be the best game in one category, it just did everything well and thats how it succeeded. Soundtrack is incredible but not the best indie (Crown goes to Undertale), Combat is behind Blasphemous but so simple and intricate and fluid with its bosses, art style has an incredibly strong atmosphere in spite of its simplicity (Unlike Rain world which went crazy detail in some areas in the DLC), enemies (and so many bosses are lacking but there are so many that it always feels fresh, platforming feels incredible even though behind Celeste (not surpising it gets beaten by a platformer) and the game has a story that could have been presented better so more people could have a base understanding without Mossbag but so interesting that it makes up for it.
Personally, I feel like nine sols is more enjoyable to play. I think the only things better in HK are the size of the world and world immersion (the feeling of stumbling upon a functioning ecosystem, that has many secrets and is there for you to discover). For the rest, story, movement, combat, bosses, npc interactions art style etc are all better in nine sols imo. It is so worth it. I do agree that I haven' t heard a lot of people placing 9S above HK but I think that is mainly due to te fact that 9S fanbase is mainly from china, so naturally you hear less from them if you are from the west.
@@mrmagoo-i2l yeah compared to HK it is a bit lacking, although I did not find it noticeable on my playthrough. I also feel like most enemies are harder to 'learn' than in HK, because you need to learn attack patterns in order to be able to parry, so not too much enemies also makes it less confusing for beginners. Later in the game you get about 4-5 new enemies per area, which I think is fine.
3:10 This game is not a metroidvania. It's a common error a lot of reviewers are committing. It is, as the description of it says, a "2d action platformer with Sekiro inspired deflection focused combat". No metroidvania.

Well, about that, Ori series is the first came to my mind
I bought three copies of Hollow Knight just because I felt like they deserved more than $15. Easily my favorite MV.
Nine sols isn't just a "game to play while waiting for silksong". it's a masterpiece in its own right.
Nice to see some Taiwanese developers get some love!

This game deserves WAY more attention.

Nine sols is easily my favorite game of 2024
The console release will be the end of this November. Covers XBox, PS4, PS5, and Switch.
Rainworld I don't think I have to explain
just because it has a really good atmosphere doesn't make it the best Indie game since Hollow Knight
@@zaappz i mean the title of "the best game" is subjective

Idk abt best indie game, i dont even think hollow knight is the best indie game, but nine sols is definitely up there
What would you personally say is the best?
@@SqueezedWings CrossCode?
@@adiveler Interestingly enough that's my 2nd favorite after hollow knight
@@SqueezedWingsKingdom Come Deliverance, or if you don’t class that as indie then Hyoer Light Drifter, followed by Tails of Iron.
One of my favorite metroidvania stories. Also the game is just super fucking hard and I love it.
Hehe I see you already played Nine Sols. Few mins ago I left a comment on your 10 best indie game video saying "Try nine sols"
Oh YES!! 🔥 God it's so good man 😁

Try Watcher Chronicles, it's a souls like metroidvania.
I honestly enjoy this game more the HK. It is incredible
