When you look at the spectrogram it looks the same as US military sonar. At least in function. You see CW/FM pulses quite clearly, which is how you target an object to shoot at it.
This gives me strong subnautica vibes and I love it. Utrasonic vocalization was cool already, but artic life makes things sound lively of another world.
Wonderful! Weddell seals are highly sensing and sentient beings, like other mammals, and birds, and other animals. And we ARE animals! Ethics must be related to all Earth beings, and Earth Itself!
Thank you this is amazing 👏 ❤. I also love to see how curious they are about the humans and equipment in their environment. But I am excited to see what is learned from this research about the seals
Thank you for posting this!!!! Truly otherworldly. Love it!!! I am emigrating from Africa to New Zealand in 6 weeks....and hope to eventually find my way to McMurdo for a season as a support worker. So so so want to experience Antartica. (Bring on the many hours of washing dishes in the station' canteen! 😁)
Not sure we quite understand your question. They make long-duration sweeping calls (whistles and trills) in both the sonic (human-audible) and ultrasonic (above human hearing) frequency ranges. There are no noticeable acoustic artifacts in our recordings. There are echoes off the overlying sea ice and the sea floor sometimes, but they typically come in just a few milliseconds after the main call and are generally imperceptible to the ear.
Amen ! Man is so conceited and arrogant as He boasts about His technological "marvels" , yet what God has fashioned makes all of Man's Greatest Achievements sheer foolishness and silliness .
They literally having techno party under the ice.
Seals on land: zombie noises. Seals underwater: Space ship boogie

Underwater space ship 🤣
I had the exact same though! Space ships coming to a halt. Certainly not the sounds I’d associate with seals.

If you hear a growl in the North Pole, you're dead.
If you hear a random yell in antarctica, you found a cuddle bud.

Superb.. Great visualization. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻. Love from Kochi India 🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳
Now I know where producers/sound crew get the sound effects for outer space in movies and TV shows. 😉
No wonder theoriest thought they were aliens in Antarctica.
Jean-Michel Jarre approved
i wonder if some of their voicings are to hide in the sounds of cracking ice. their sounds are so sci-fi and relaxing
Love this so much!
This is a krautrock record. Quite good actually.
GERP! BRRF! MURPH! EGG!!!!
Great video, great footage
The sounds they make in the water, compared to the sounds they make on land are crazy.
love this!!
Submarines))
Using the sound for communication is likely and so is for echolocation
Thanks for the input, jackass
Yay!
That’s so amazing
sounds like the intro of Doctor Who, or the TARDIS
They sound like star wars blasters lol
I just want to squeeze one good lord.
seems like you may have removed or have had some videos removed from your channel. please uhhhh stop that. .i go back to these a lot
do they make sweeping calls due to ice?
It's an acoustic artifact as a result of the presence of the ice sheet above.

Gray aliens 👽 of Antarctica 🇦🇶 🦭
Its not echolocation. They are doing this solely to be silly
