    Hi, what resources do you recommend for practice questions? other than AAMC

  • @jamesburmeister1608
    @jamesburmeister1608 3 года назад +4

    Hey Phil. Thanks for the upload! I was just wondering why you only recommend the first 4 blueprint exams? Are the other ones not good, or is 4 blueprint + AAMC exams enough practice exams? Thanks!

    • @philratnasamy7240
      @philratnasamy7240  3 года назад +3

      Hey James, thanks for watching! I recommend the first 4 blueprint exams for two reasons...
      1) They are easily the best quality out of all the exams BluePrint offers and are the most representative of the actual MCAT. The practice tests beyond #4 have some funky questions and I personally feel that they don't carry the same feel as AAMC exams.
      2) I think that the 4 BluePrint exams plus the 5 available AAMC exams (sample, 1, 2, 3, and 4) are enough practice for the MCAT. You'll start to see diminishing returns after 9-10 practice exams.
      I hope that helps, and I hope your studying is going well!

      @@philratnasamy7240 Thank you Phil for the advice. Also, I wanted to mention that you may want to consider not "guaranteeing" an increase in an MCAT score because nothing can guarantee an individual will perform better. I just have seen you mention a "guarantee" in increasing one's MCAT score a couple times but I just think there is no "guarantee". You know what I mean?

    • @philratnasamy7240
      @philratnasamy7240  3 года назад +2

      @@jamesburmeister1608 Hey, you’re right you can never really guarantee an increase. I meant it more along the lines of following this advice is the most effective way to see meaningful improvements in your score (most test takers who use these strategies will see an increase, barring unforeseen circumstances). I understand what you mean though, I’ll be more careful with my wording moving forward!

    Did you use cloze deletion or front and back anki flashcards? Trying to figure out which type of cards will help me the most!

    • @philratnasamy7240
      @philratnasamy7240  3 года назад

      I used front and back, but didn't know use to use cloze deletion while I was prepping for the MCAT! I think both types of cards are helpful, with cloze deletion cards being a bit faster to make. Experiment and find what works best for you!
      I would also learn how to use image occlusion cards, those can be really helpful!

    what was your secret for CARS?

    • @philratnasamy7240
      @philratnasamy7240  3 года назад +7

      My main advice for CARS is 1) Do LOTS of practice, ideally 2-3 passages a day throughout your prep, 2) Read for the main idea - not details. Look for ideas repeated throughout the passage and use those to answer the questions 3) Don't go back to the passage after reading it unless the question explicitly tells you to 4) Skip questions if you can't answer them within a minute

      What was your diagnostic score though? cause the title of this video is "improve your MCAT score" whereas there is not much improvement in your fl scores. I mean your scores need no improvement at all for sure but I like to hear more from people who start off with a bad score and then raise it with certain strategies.

    • @philratnasamy7240
      @philratnasamy7240  3 года назад +2

      @@karamtahera4339 Hey Karam - I don't really believe in diagnostic tests because without studying, you're going to do poorly on the MCAT no matter what. This test doesn't evaluate common knowledge, so I see no value in taking a diagnostic before actually studying. When I took my first FL, I already completed content review and about 3/4 of the UWorld Qbank. In general, following the tips in this video can help you improve your score over time!

      Hahahaha I'm flattered. In all honesty natural test-taking ability helps, but I think if you study the right materials and be critical with yourself about what you know/don't know - you can definitely improve your score.

    100th percentile? How...

    • @philratnasamy7240
      @philratnasamy7240  3 года назад +6

      Honestly... you can do it too! It really comes down to practice and a little bit of luck. I did pretty average on my SAT in high school, but I practiced for my MCAT consistently for 6 months and felt the exam become way easier over time!
      The key is being critical of yourself. If you miss something, go back and try to understand that topic, don’t just move on!
