Interesting to hear you say 'it's called a darning egg even though it looks like a mushroom' as in English it is indeed called a darning mushroom. I used to darn socks when I was young and poor but never used (or even owned) a mushroom, my free hand sufficed although I can certainly see how the concave surface would make things easier.

When I first did my research I found some references to a darning egg in English - but now where I searched a little more thoroughly, I can defenitely see that "darning mushroom" is a much more commenly used word. It is not often that you'll meet fellow "darners" now a day, so I really appreciate your comment. I do recommend the mushroom espcially for the big holes, that can be almost impossible to handle by hand😀🧦🧶
