If you haven't planned for this already, a little wood stove in the cottage would be a warm retreat just in case. Looking forward to seeing your cutting garden take shape. If you have the time and enough light, you can start from seed now in cell packs, or directly sow into the soil once the ground temps warm up. Definitely more economical and if it doesn't work, there's always the garden center :). Wishing you peace and light during this very difficult time.
Abby, get an electric blanket to keep you warm while you read, write letters, paint or start another book. I just finished your first book and it was an inspiration navigating through incredible loss. A follow up book about successfully raising your children, the homes you made in the Seattle area, and your chateau life would be exciting to read. When I think about your Chloe, I am glad that she lived through that period over a year ago when she was so sick. I’ve never been able to have a dog or cat because of my son’s asthma, even though he is now 54. I want my house free of anything that would compromise his health when he comes for a visit. I hope you get another pet to ease your loss and thank you for sharing your life with us. I hope the sun comes out soon and they fix your heat. ❤
Abby, you are going through a very rough patch, still grieving for Chloe and a very cold chateau. Please look after yourself, things will fall in place.
When ive had pets, as i do now, yes they become a part of the family but because they are only here for a short time, i always say im the custodian of this animal until there time comes, life expectancy then anytime before or after is a gift.. bug hugs 🫂
i myself would get large plastic landscaping to cover a large area. let it set for the winter and colder times. and then in the warmer spring reveal the area which will be ready for more garden area. I can see why you want to build it up and box it in as the trendy thing. also cause of all the grass seed in the ground that could show later... But the large cover rather than small dabs at it at a time... i have heard if you cover in plastic the sun should help solar cleanse the grass seeds.
I’m so sorry to hear about Chloe and the loss of the Koi as well. Loosing a beloved pet is always hard as coming home to so many disappointments. I wish you strength and success for the 2025 projects.
The best antidote for feeling down is to plan a flower garden (at least it is for me). Escaping into the world of beautiful blooms you get to choose for your new space and that will adorn your chateau is something you can start right now. Look for what other gardeners in your area grow easily and begin with that. There may be a local gardening group or Facebook group that can advise you on what to choose. Your local garden centre probably has the right seeds for your area already on the shelves. You could look there too. For your zone you can likely easily grow zinnias from seed that you direct sow in late April or early May. Cress is great for a filler. There are also flowers that like to be sown in cool soil in the spring like Larkspur, Bells of Ireland and Orlaya. Have fun dreaming of bouquets you could make with all the beautiful things you choose! 🌸
Mortar or pointing between the stones. All looking good in the cottage. Thinking of you through the trials and hopefully more tribulations. "This day will pass". Care for the cat. He will repay you.
No heat in January in France is just as bad as the NE without power and all the gas and electric are off. Winter weather has it charm when there is heat in the house and a roaring fire in the fireplace. Thank goodness you have a fireplace to keep you warm. Just think that March is not far behind Abby. I am getting a dog in the Spring to help ease the pain of my little guy that I still miss and it has been two years. I did not think we would ever get another one but never say never, right. Peace and happiness to you and all your family in the New Year !
Abbie, my heart is sad for you, for the loss of Chloe and for coming back to the chateau and being faced with no heat and the broken fountain water pump. Grief can make everyday struggles feel even worse. Our pets truly become a part of our family and their deaths can be deeply felt, especially if we have also had a trauma loss in our life, as you have. Sending you a big hug of support. Once the heating is back up and running smoothly, and the sun comes out again, I hope you can find moments of joy to help sustain you. Maybe another pet? Wishing you a Happy 2025!
Chloe was such a good girl, and I liked watching her roam around. 5 years ago my husband passed (he had Alz) at 68 and 3 months later my cat of 18 years passed as well. I decided that would be it. My daughter-in-law got lung cancer 3 years ago and my son asked me to take care of their 21 lb cat lol ..She's still here.. My middle son passed away a year ago and I have to say, she was very comforting to have here in my saddest days. Moral of my story is that cats are wonderful companions and do well with dogs. They are independent and need less attention. I hope you decide to feed the little one and possibly make a new friend. Chloe will always be missed!!
I’m so sorry you have had so many losses in five years. My husband fell five years ago next month and the head injury took him in 10 days. We had 45 of the best years of my life together. That was hard enough for me but losing my son would kill me. I wish you much happiness in the future to ease your pain. Shows like Abby’s on RUclips really help. I just finished her book and I have even more admiration for her!
Sending love to you Abby…..it is tough for you at the moment as we can all see and hear in your voice…..I can relate to your grief and the gloomy weather and cold won’t be helping! Maybe take a drive South for a few days?
Rough start to 2025. Adjusting to the loss of Chloe will, I am sure, take time. Then there is all the problems with water, heat and the gardens. Take small steps and rest when you can. ❤
The moisture you see on the wood and stone is condensation as you don’t have a weather tight building yet. Once you do and get the heat on that will dry it out assuming you don’t have water percolating through the cliff walls. What we did was use perlite pellets wedged between the wall framing which had a vapor/water barrier on the outside surface and the stone wall so water could seep down and out via drainage along the floor area. We also added a bit of air flow to evaporate any moisture in the cavity using a fan which was driven based on the humidity of the day.
Maybe you should think about using the pool. Since you have a problem with build up in the pipes, you will have a constant issue with your filtering of the pool. Think about it.
Stay strong, every step you make. bring you closer to your goal.if you look back from day one. to now, you have accomplish, a lot so be proud of your self. you inspired, me.
It’s never easy to carry on when you lose a beloved pet. Chloe was loved by all of us. I hope your troubles sort themselves out soon. Maybe that kitty will help heal your broken heart. Looking forward to seeing the 2025 projects. Take courage and look at all you accomplished so far 🙏😍😘
Hi Abby, I'm glad you made it to your other home safely! That is a awesome thing right! I'm concerned about that wet cottage now! Why why and why? Oh my goodness! The poor fishes! And thank You God that you can have a fire in the fireplace. Is there anyway you can close off the rest of the place. Brrrr ! You take as long as you need to grieve your loss of precious Chloe! Don't film if you don't feel like it. We will all still be here. Much love and hugs!
Adding my hugs to everyone else's. Hope you get that heater going and the fountain straightened out. Chloe was so loved, we all fell in love with her. As someone said the timing of the cat isn't coincidence. Maybe part of the CDS cat distribution system. Take care.
That is their way, it seems. Kittens or a cat will suddenly show up at a place they are needed even tho the owner didn’t know they were needed😅. My daughter’s beloved golden retriever, Cleo, died at 8 years old and she swore no more, heartbroken. She was distraught. Then my granddaughter showed up with a Malumute 1 1/2 year old that her friend couldn’t keep. Within days she was in love, she even couldn’t believe it. If you are a pet lover, don’t wait too long to get another. Wont take place of your lossed one but it will fill that empt place in your heart. ❤❤❤
Yup,to the curtains. I wondered last summer when you had guests. But an easy if expensive solution to lack of sleep. And you get to choose style and fabric😅😊 Roman blinds are great.
Hi Abby, i wanted to quickly share with you that because the cottage hasn’t had windows, doors and heat installed yet, the inside rooms are open to outside winter weather conditions. That is why you’re getting a lot of condensation and dampness inside the building. If you cover / enclose the windows and doors with thick plastic and put some portable electric/oil heaters on the main and upper floors, the warmth could be enough to reduce and minimize all that dampness. So very sorry to hear about Chloe. Sincerest condolences to you. Losing a beloved pet is the worst. Go easy on yourself, take time to grieve but do not deny yourself the companionship of another, furry beastie. They are hugely comforting and bring joy, and there are so many rescue and shelter dogs that are in desperate need of a loving home and master. Your heart is big and has huge capacity to love in any circumstances. Chloe loved you and wouldn’t want you to suffer. 🐶❤️ How frustrating about your pellet stove! I hope you’re able to sort its issues out soon and without too much trouble. Please know you are not alone in your home maintenance issues! I feel your frustration and I sympathize. (The capacitor that is part of our home’s well water pump system just failed last night while I was running a bath. Argh. So until my husband fixes it, we have to bring in drinking water and use buckets of water from our pond to flush our toilets. He has to source the replacement part before he can fix it. We’re hoping it’s not the pump itself, which is at the bottom of our 250 foot deep well. And of course it’s the middle of winter here on here BC’s west coast…these things never seem to happen when it’s warm, do they? But, on the bright side, it’s Monday and the electrical stores are open all week.) Wishing you a wonderful New Year ahead 🎉, with much joy, laughter, prosperity and a beautiful cutting garden full of flowers. It doesn’t seem like it now, but spring and new growth popping is just around the corner. The sun and warmth is coming! Xo
Chère Abby: As is sometimes the case, some good (you are back in France), some bad (animal demise) and some WTHeck! (startling pellet consumption and cottage weirdness). Try to keep warm (it’s -12 C in south central Ontario, today’s high); physical discomfort greatly affects our outlook.
Hi, sorry to hear you are having a tough go for the new year. the party looked fun! Koi need a heater during winter. You can get gold fish that have beautiful color and they are much hardier. Mine have survived my pond being solid snow. Your leaves can be toxic too depending on what kind of tree they are from. good to see you back.
Aww Abby sending you a big virtual hug, not the best way to kick off 2025 for sure. Keep strong, keep distracted, maybe go visit your friends to not be all alone. The kitty may become a friend in time too. Lots of love
Life at times can deal us a really bad hand. The little things that we can easily handle become all the more difficult when we are dealing with a loss like yours of Chloe. And truly, with the cottage, the non-working fountain pump leading to the loss of the koi, the breakdown of the heating source, and the tenuous cliff ready to collapse, you are dealing with a lot right now. And truly, if the heating pellets aren't delivered very soon, check into a B&B, gite, or hotel to stay warm. Or perhaps invest in some ceramic heaters for your bedroom, bathroom, and where you spend the most time to make it tolerable now and have an emergency backup should this happen again. Be good to yourself as you work through Chloe's loss and these big bumps in the road.
You've had a pretty rough ending of 24 and beginning of 25 but I know things will level out for you! Sending you love and warm weather to warm your heart! Carry on......rejoicing! Cheers!
Chloe was so special, as was my pup who I lost 3 years ago. He was 17 yrs old and a constant companion. You are not alone in your grief. They brought us so much happiness. Your chateau is coming along. Even with setbacks I can visualize your dream. It’s on its way to becoming a beautiful retreat. Happy New Year.
Oh Abby I can hear the sadness in your voice. And added to that the issues with the Chateau. Take each day and just give time TIME. You gave Chloe the best life. In time who knows you may get another puppy. I did. The pain, the grief, the love of losing her after 13.5 years was at times unbearable. So because of that pain I knew I had so much love to give and that new puppy helped heal that grief. Unbelievably so 🐶Love, peace and light to you Abby ❤️🕊️☀️
New glasses! You look great!!! I remember maybe crying longer over one of my cats than my dad's passing. I know. Probably not right but it was what it was.
This type of property would traditionally have a couple of people living permanently who would be able to take care and alert on problems when they arose. A big old property that has not been lived in for a couple of weeks, particularly in the winter, is hard to come back to. This return has been unforgiving. Force et courage to you piloting this solo. You're getting there! As for the cottage, are there hygrometry experts in the area? It may be worth seeking their advice on the humidity.
IKEA has 98” cotton velveteen curtains that would go very well in your chateau….2 panels, $69. Might not be long enough? Various colors. And i have added trim to them in the past… it would be way inexpensive!
It might be expensive but I think you need to find a beautiful hotel near you. Go check in even if only 1 night. Treat yourself to a massage, a nice dinner and a warm bed. It's good for the soul to pamper yourself now and then. Especially when a lot is piling up on you.
I just returned from 10 days in Tuscany and I am planning to buy a Heat Pump for my friend in Tuscany and another one for my friend in the Vento. They are coming into increasing use in Italy. The beauty of it is you get both heating and air conditioning. Possibly it would be worthwhile to look into it at least for the part of the house that you spend most time.
I can only say BUMMER! My New Year is also off to a meh start - not quite like yours - but hard to be energetic and go for it. You’ll be ok and so will I. Just wanted to empathize a bit as you cope with loss and then return to aggravating challenges. Thank you for sharing even when things aren’t bright and fun. Makes us all reflect. It’s real, true stuff and you’ll come out ok.
So sorry to hear your year hasn’t started off with all wonderful news… I can feel the sorrow in your voice over Chloe she was your companion and brought so much joy happiness and love furbabies always hold a very special place in your heart the grief is difficult to bear unconditional love is something only they can provide I hope one day you may consider adopting any sweet soul who so desperately needs a home and a human to love and be 🥰 loved! I have unfortunately lost several through the years but as hard as the pain is I find more difficult not to save others…all in due time Abby! The New Years Eve party looked wonderful! Ugh those darn pellets !! Do stay warm catching a cold on top of everything else no thank you!! I’m certain your list of chateau goals will be met you have many wonderful people who enjoy your company and will help to complete your list of projects! I hope the sun shines the fish loves his new home and your week ahead is filled with all good things! Au Revoir 💜
In addition in Tuscany, we had to buy a water softener for our house because the pipes would have been blocked quickly and our appliances would have been compromised much more quickly. I’m not sure about getting a water softener for your fountain but definitely consider it for your house.
I lost my dog this year as well. Losing a beloved pet brings up all the past grief. I keep thinking of a saying I've heard. "How wonderful to have known someone that saying goodbye is so damn awful." Sending you healing thoughts.
I have had three previous miniature schnauzers and the loss of each of them was challenging. I now have my fourth since June and he is an amazingly, affectionate and wonderful companion. I’m not sure what your future plans are, but I find dogs are man’s and women’s best friend. Have a happy new year.
Happy New Year and God Bless You - losing an animal is like losing a child...I am sure Chloe is still by your side in spirit every day and every minute. Don't forget that you made a special place for her...
I share the gloom. The weather has been damp and miserable here in SW UK too. Stay positive. The days are now getting longer and before you know it will be Spring 🌼
Abby This is a kind of change in you life. I admire you for everything you have accomplished. Just keep going on and do what ever you want to do. Do not stress your self. Just let everything flow and you will see that by doing it that way everything will happen faster. A big Hug.
🎊🎉 Happy New Year Abby. Please don't feel you need to apologize for missing having Chloe in your life. I enjoyed your sharing her with us. Are you sure someone didn't use some of your pellets while you were gone? Things don't seem to add up
Buy a good quality upholstery-grade sewing machine and make the curtains yourself. It is not difficult and is very therapeutic. :) I would put the cottage on hold for now and would concentrate on making the main structure fully income-producing. I am concerned about the cottage' structural integrity and humidity issues given how close it is to an unstable hillside. It seems like a money pit to me, and you may be better off without the headaches and continuous expenses. Very sorry about Chloe.
Stay positive Abby! Look back at your accomplishments … there are so many and many happy times (at least what you shared on video). You are deserving of many gifts in 2025, hmm, new curtains for sure! Start researching your plants for the garden. Personally, I cheer up as soon as my hands touch the soil. Maybe a little distraction, visit a new city or even Paris.
You sound defeated. You’re overwhelmed between maintenance in Seattle and all the unknowns at the chateau. Nothing feels fun without Chloe as well. Things will look up and you’ll feel better soon - takes time so allow yourself that time. You’re stressing me out 😂!!!! Loveya
I hope you will at some point get another dog which needs a loving home. I got my dog Otto and adopted him. Best dog ever. You will know when the time is right.❤
It is difficult to admit but I think you need to become mistrustful of what is happening when you are gone Happy New Year ✨💕✨💕✨💕 Thank you for your videos ❤️ Your property is beautiful but needs cameras and vigilance 🌟😊🌿☘️🌸
Fondue night I’d love that. The guests enjoyed themselves. You’re a very good host. Jeepers! You’ve had some moments at the Chateau, sorry to hear the fish died, the fountains not working. It can only get better for you in 2025 ❤🙏
Install Lorex 4K HD Interactive Security Cameras at critical locations so you know what's happening at the chateau 24/7 & when you're away. Peace of mind with parameters to notify you of suspicious activity. Ours are also monitored by an outside security company. ❤️🙏
Abbey , My entire water system under the house broke Dec1. Eeeekkk. Here is what I learned., 1) ceramic electric space heaters are the most effective 2) thank goodness I have a woodstove here in Washington 3) Insurance claims adjustors are not available during the holidays. 4) you might consider putting in a wood insert or stove downstairs at the “mansion chateau” saves money! 5) Dear Chloe is there with you in spirit❤
Keep your water heated with a heat pump. OH just heard you have one...put some heated or boiled big rocks in the pond or dig down deeper where it might be safe to have fishes...have twice as much pellets for backup
I like the silver feet on the tub over the gold. Then again, I much prefer silver over gold anyway, lol. Sorry no heat. Hopefully you'll get what you need for your heater soon.
Hi Abby, just do it slowly, you're not in a good place at the moment. I hope things work out well for you, I will be sending prayers and good thought & hugs your way. Chloe was a free spirit always into everything. Abby hang in there your very courages. 💜💜🙏🙏🐶
Morning again Abbie,i watch Vivienne and Simon on Chateau Love, she also had a few bedroom windows like the round one`s you have, Vivienne found a solution to her curtaining problem, im sure she would love to tell you how she came about solving the same problem as you have if you contact her, Vivienne and Simon or i should say Vivienne is so very artistic like you are
Hugs and happy new year Abbey. I love watching your channel and always looking to Sunday to watch you. Keep on going you Amazing Wonder Woman You! Xoxo
Not sure if Ting works in France, a sensor plugs into any outlet, connects to the Ting Sensor App, and continuously monitors your home’s wiring, plugged-in devices and appliances, and even the power from your utility provider. I think the app would alert you to the pond pump not drawing power?

Net the pool to catch the leaves, as they spoil the water.
The acoustics in the room is amazing. imagine dancing there...
Awww…Abbie. I hear the discouragement in your voice. I’m sorry you are in a hard, painful season. You are not alone! Hugs to you.

Aww Abby sending you a big virtual hug, not the best way to kick off 2025 for sure. Keep strong, keep distracted, maybe go visit your friends to not be all alone. The kitty may become a friend in time too. Lots of love
Moc vám držím palce a přeji z celého srdce aby se začalo dařit. Posílám pozdrav z Česka
Some trees are toxic to fish when they fall in the pond. You might google the tree that overhangs your pond. Sorry about that.
i can never remember the name of your chateau. Ive been wanting to see more of your videos.
Abby, you’re in my thoughts. On the flipside of things, your hair looks great.❤ Big plans for this year. Thank you for sharing.❤
I love your new glasses!!
New glasses! You look great!!!
I remember maybe crying longer over one of my cats than my dad's passing. I know. Probably not right but it was what it was.
Looking forward to your choices of drapery for the windows.
A new puppie is the only way. You will never fotget Cloe, but it gets bearable
It might be expensive but I think you need to find a beautiful hotel near you. Go check in even if only 1 night. Treat yourself to a massage, a nice dinner and a warm bed. It's good for the soul to pamper yourself now and then. Especially when a lot is piling up on you.
Hugs Abby 🥰🙏
Difficult but ‘Chin-Up’ for 2025………. Having regular friends around will help you. 🙂
Wow!! I'm amazed at the size of the grocery cart! 😮
My prayers are with you....
Happy New Year and God Bless You - losing an animal is like losing a child...I am sure Chloe is still by your side in spirit every day and every minute. Don't forget that you made a special place for her...
Looks like the start of the New year with awesome party. Chole will be missed. She was lucky to have you as her human friend. Happy New years to you.
I share the gloom. The weather has been damp and miserable here in SW UK too. Stay positive. The days are now getting longer and before you know it will be Spring 🌼
You are so courageous! Things will get better. Hang on there.
You year can only improve Abby! Maybe you can close some of the window shutters to keep the cold out…so sorry. Bundle up…
Abby This is a kind of change in you life.
Things don't seem to add up
Abby I so feel your pain....biggest hugs. 🐾❤
Your new glasses are lovely. They look so good on you. Happy New Year!💥🎊🎆
Great video. Things will improve. Excited for you in the new year. The chateau has come a long way!
So sorry ❤
Abby , I know its to soon now to get another companion but it does help heal the heart and missing Chloe.
You will know when the time is right.❤
It is difficult to admit but I think you need to become mistrustful of what is happening when you are gone
Happy New Year ✨💕✨💕✨💕
Thank you for your videos ❤️
Your property is beautiful but needs cameras and vigilance 🌟😊🌿☘️🌸
Fondue night I’d love that. The guests enjoyed themselves. You’re a very good host. Jeepers! You’ve had some moments at the Chateau, sorry to hear the fish died, the fountains not working. It can only get better for you in 2025 ❤🙏
Install Lorex 4K HD Interactive Security Cameras at critical locations so you know what's happening at the chateau 24/7 & when you're away. Peace of mind with parameters to notify you of suspicious activity. Ours are also monitored by an outside security company.
❤️🙏
I think somebody helped their self with the pellets
Abbey , My entire water system under the house broke Dec1. Eeeekkk. Here is what I learned.,
1) ceramic electric space heaters are the most effective
2) thank goodness I have a woodstove here in Washington
3) Insurance claims adjustors are not available during the holidays.
4) you might consider putting in a wood insert or stove downstairs at the “mansion chateau” saves money!
5) Dear Chloe is there with you in spirit❤
Sending hugs and keeping you in our prayers🙏🏼💕
Keep your water heated with a heat pump. OH just heard you have one...put some heated or boiled big rocks in the pond or dig down deeper where it might be safe to have fishes...have twice as much pellets for backup
Like your new glasses🎉❤
❤❤❤
Bonne année 🥳 🙂 🥳
I like the silver feet on the tub over the gold. Then again, I much prefer silver over gold anyway, lol. Sorry no heat. Hopefully you'll get what you need for your heater soon.
Happy New Year 🎆🎊
Happy New Year, Abby!!!
Your NYE looked so fun! 🪩
Happy New Year - best wishes ❤👍🎈🎉
Best Wishes for a Great New Year
Hi Abby, just do it slowly, you're not in a good place at the moment. I hope things work out well for you, I will be sending prayers and good thought & hugs your way. Chloe was a free spirit always into everything. Abby hang in there your very courages. 💜💜🙏🙏🐶
Love the glasses!
Wishing you many blessings in 2025
Love the glasses!!!!!❤
I had a pellet heater, and it went "bonkers." It would eat up the pellets quickly, and after servicing, it never was fully fixed. Good luck!
... and hugs.
🏆Happy New Year!🏆
Morning again Abbie,i watch Vivienne and Simon on Chateau Love, she also had a few bedroom windows like the round one`s you have, Vivienne found a solution to her curtaining problem, im sure she would love to tell you how she came about solving the same problem as you have if you contact her, Vivienne and Simon or i should say Vivienne is so very artistic like you are
I'm hoping to find information on your retreats for 2025... Directions please?
Sending love from Canada ❤
Hugs and happy new year Abbey. I love watching your channel and always looking to Sunday to watch you. Keep on going you Amazing Wonder Woman You! Xoxo
Not sure if Ting works in France, a sensor plugs into any outlet, connects to the Ting Sensor App, and continuously monitors your home’s wiring, plugged-in devices and appliances, and even the power from your utility provider. I think the app would alert you to the pond pump not drawing power?
I realy whish you the best Abby
