Hey everyone! 🌟 I want to apologize for not including subtitles in the first part of the video. They are available in the speaking practice session, though! To help, I've added a transcript. Thank you for your understanding, and I hope you enjoy the story! 😊

Hi, I’m Hazel, and I’m learning English. Today, something unexpected happened that made me think a lot. I was walking to the bus stop when a woman smiled at me and said, “I love your jacket! It’s such a cool color!”
At first, I didn’t know what to say. I just smiled and replied, “Thank you!” on my way, I couldn’t stop thinking about how good it felt to get a compliment. It made me realize that I wanted to get better at giving compliments in English, too.
But where should I start? Compliments seemed easy, but what if I said something wrong or silly? I felt nervous, especially because I didn’t have many friends here to practice with. But I decided to give it a try.
I headed to my favorite café, determined to compliment someone. When I stepped inside, the smell of fresh coffee filled the air. As I waited in line, I noticed the barista behind the counter. She had a bright smile and was wearing a black apron that looked really nice. I took a deep breath and thought, "Here goes nothing."
When it was my turn, I smiled and said, “I really like your smile! It’s so warm.” For a second, she looked surprised, but then her whole face lit up. “Thank you! That made my day!” she replied, still smiling. I couldn’t believe it-it was easier than I thought!
As I sipped my coffee, I felt a bit more confident. Compliments didn’t have to be complicated-they just needed to be genuine. Feeling brave, I decided to keep practicing.
When I left the café, I saw a man holding the door open for an elderly woman. It was such a small act, but it was kind. I walked up to him and said, “That was really nice of you! You’re so thoughtful.” He looked surprised but then smiled and said, “Thanks! I try to help when I can.”
Each time I gave a compliment, I felt a little braver. Compliments didn’t always have to be about someone’s looks; they could be about actions, too.
Later that day, I went to the park to enjoy the sunshine. I noticed a woman jogging with her dog. Her colorful sneakers caught my eye, and she looked so happy running. I decided to try something new. I called out, “Your shoes are awesome! And you’re doing great-keep it up!”
She laughed and said, “Thank you! You just made my run so much better!”
By now, I was really starting to enjoy this. Compliments could be about anything-someone’s smile, their clothes, or even the little things they do that make the world better.
As I continued walking, I noticed a kid practicing soccer with his friends. He made an amazing kick into the goal, and I couldn’t help but say, “Wow! That was a great shot!” The boy grinned, “Thanks!” His friends cheered, and I could see the pride on his face.
By the end of the day, I realized that giving compliments wasn’t just about practicing my English. It was about making connections, spreading kindness, and making people smile. Compliments can be about how someone looks or what they do, and both can make someone’s day a little brighter.
Now, I feel much more confident giving compliments in English, and I can’t wait to continue my compliment adventure tomorrow!
