Back in the day, reporters weren’t supposed to get emotional or put their spin on things to sway the public. It was just report the facts. It was admirable. Things have changed.
Miss those days...
Yes, the pressure to get clicks has taken the main stream news organizations and turned them into something more akin to tabloids. They report what sounds most sensational. Stories the purport to be factual are liberally sprinkled with editorialization and the editorial side of things is strongly skewed towards whatever the popular opinion is. Even once respectable publications such as the New York Times and Washington Post are far from immune to this trend. It’s become harder and harder to know where to look for the truth.
Too bad reporters are spin doctors and liars.
@@Wellch I would more likely blame management and editorial staff than the reporters. Reporters are all too often told what they are supposed to cover and editorial staff decides how it should be covered.

As to the 3rd story, a lot of states have a “stand your ground” law, or Castle Doctrine, which means you’re allowed to use equal force to protect yourself and your property from harm. Generally, you’re allowed to use equal force to defend yourself and your family and home, and once the intruder or attacker has been immobilized or stopped somehow, you can’t keep using additional force if they are no longer posing an imminent threat. I hope this makes sense.
Yep...and I live in one - Virginia. Even if land was free, I wouldn't live in one of those "duty to retreat" states! And wouldn't feel like I'm missing a thing at all...for they are generally blue states anyway. :)

I'm Native American and all tribes have Shamans. . Do not judge them by this story. They are nothing what so ever like that.
That first one reminds me of a story about Abbott and Costello. Apparently Costello's son had drowned in a pool one night mere moments before they were set to perform their radio show. This was before pre recording of shows and every performance was live. Despite this Costello chose to do the show as he was from the vaudeville school of entertainment where the show must go on. It wasn't until afterword that Abbott announced to the crowd what had happened and what Costello had done in performing for them despite his grief. There is a foundation set up in his Son's honor today, the Lou Costello Jr. Youth Foundation.

With regard to the second story, this guy was known as a shaman. He was an authority figure thought to have powers. Religion will make you trust people you shouldn't trust.

If someone enters your home and is fighting you , you can use whatever force needed to end the threat .
I've heard the story about the reporter's daughter going missing after the collision. Depending on the state, but if you are defending yourself against someone in your own home , you can bet you won't be in trouble. Good for Doug!

Each state is different but castle doctrine states- you’d be okay if you use deadly force.
In SC: The “Castle Doctrine” recognizes that a person’s home is his castle and extends to include an occupied vehicle and a person’s place of business. The South Carolina General Assembly’s rationale behind the Castle Doctrine is that persons residing in or visiting South Carolina have a right to expect to remain unmolested and safe within their homes, businesses, and vehicles, and no person or victim of crime should be required to surrender his personal safety to a criminal, nor should a person or victim be required to needlessly retreat in the face of intrusion or attack.
That second story made me feel physically ill. Horrifying stories.
I love this guys channel. He tells the best stories. Reminds me of the old time radio dramas that could keep you riveted to your chair with nothing but a voice and your own imagination.
In Texas we have the Castle law. If any person enters home you are allowed to use deadly force.

In certain states that support "castle doctrine" and stand your ground laws you may even kill your intruder with little to no consequences.

When my kids were little I woke up one night to find a man standing in my hallway. He was between my sleeping children. I got out of bed and walked toward him. He was rambling incoherently so I headed to the living room where I had laid a hammer down after hanging pictures. He followed me and sat right beside the hammer. I didn't know what to do. I walked over to the door and opened it. Then I said oh my gosh, come look at this. He actually got up and stood at the door where I shoved him out and closed and locked the door. I sat in front of the door all night. We hadn't had our phone installed yet as we'd just moved in. My plan was to get to the hammer and I fully intended to hit him in the head as hard as I could. Thankfully that didn't happen. I was afraid for my kids.
Why didn't he tell them that the ritual for beauty and riches was to fill a cup with saliva, have them spit in a cup.
HE WASENT TO SMART.
He was a serial killer looking for an excuse. His story about seeing his father in a dream was likely bogus, or else he was just delusional.
TLDR: check out folk stories and less commonly talked about literature you'll find amazing tales to share.
One of my favorite classes in high school was American Folk Literature it was an optional course I took. In it we learned about folk stories like Rip Van Winkle, and Casey Jones to things like real legendary pirates and the works of H.P Lovecraft was a massive hit on Halloween. If you want to learn more American stories as I know you enjoy them take a deep dive into those not creepy but, interesting little nuances.
My favorite of which is about the worlds best Hold My Beer story. One day a man veteran who had come back from service was in a bar with friends, laughing and joking around as you do. He boasted that he could fly a plane into the middle of the town perfectly while drunk. Not only did he prove this but he stole the plane and landed it perfectly onto the street. The story would later be published in the newspaper and that's not even the man's entire story just an insane thing he did.
In the US you can use whatever you need to to defend your home if someone's causing you or another person physical harm. Even a gun. It's considered self-defense. It depends on the state as to what kind of license is required. And also depends on what state you are in as to whether or not you can use it to protect other things besides people with it.
The US has what is called the Castle Defense Law.
As long as the person in your house bleeds in or dies in your house you are justified in killing the intruder(s).
Just recently police did a no knock warrant on someone's apartment and the person inside fired their gun at the police and was let off because the police hadn't announced who they were before breaking in the door.
Sadly the girlfriend was killed in the shoot out.
It turned out the person they were looking for had nothing to the couple who lived in the apartment and the police had lied to get the warrant for the search.
Kabir here in the US in most states you could legaly kill a intruder doesn't mean you need to ot have to. In my state we have the castle doctrine work or home a intruder can be jjustifiably killed to protact yourself or family from possible death.
I live in a state with Castle laws. We can use up to lethal force to defend family, self & property in the case of an intruder or attacker.
I love Mr. Ballen. His storytelling skills are excellent and he's very charismatic. Doesn't hurt that he's hot af, either.

Here in the US if someone comes into your home and attacks you then you have every right to defend yourself with whatever means you can. If you feel like your life or the life of someone in your home is in danger then do what you must to protect, but the laws vary from state to state, so always read up on them as best you can. My daughter who was 24 at the time is what you would call petite and was out for a jog one night when she was mugged. The 3 who jumped her wanted her phone and ear buds. She is petite but strong as an ox and managed to drop one guy with a kick to the nuts. The other 2 she had in a headlock after she had broke ones nose and fractured her jaw. The guy on the ground grabs her phone and takes off so she let the other ones loose and they ran as well. When she got home she was so worried that she would be arrested because they were all minors and she had hurt them. It took us and the cops over an hour to reassure her that she was NOT the one in trouble.
16:00 Honestly it depends which state you live in and the individual laws. Like you stated "reasonable force" is okay in most cases.
However a fair amount of Americans have guns and that opens a whole other can of worms, people often get charged in the US for manslaughter or other similar things while defending their property.
In the United States, almost everywhere, you can kill any trespasser assaulting you. If you do it with an illegal weapon, you will be charged for possession of it, but not for what you did with it.
It's called "castle doctrine," which means you are in your own private safe place and can defend it by any means necessary. In many states Castle Doctrine extends to your vehicle when travelling.
In the few cities where that's not the case, you have a "duty to retreat" even from your own house, which is crazy. The idea is that your duty is to run away,even out of your own home or vehicle, and then if you fail and are forced to defend yourself, MAYBE it's acceptable.
BTW, when you take weapons classes here, there's more time spent on the legality and morality of killing than on using the weapon, As well as emphasis on how to avoid situations where you have to make that choice to start with. As a gun-ownership skeptic I was quite surprised by that when I sought out formal training for myself and my family. Then again there are aot of cops and civilians that I really prefer didn't have access to weapons.
Very interesting. I think we have a fairly similar law in place but we can only apply “reasonable, justifiable force”. So we have to genuinely believe our life is under threat
@@kabirconsiders that's the basic principle here, and most states started with an English Common Law basis (the outliers are French and Spanish), but exactly what that means varies by State and in some cases City. But in general no one cares about the details because everyone agrees "it's better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6."
@@JasonJrake It is not practically everywhere. Castle doctrine is a controversial legal theory that allows for some shady legal results, and while Self defense is on the books in every state, you can't kill someone for simple trespassing in most jurisdictions.
@@RHCole my exact words were "any trespasser assaulting you." The combination is what works in most jurisdictions. But obviously, consult your local laws on this and and other topics, and follow them where they are moral, or at least convenient 😏.

If someone is in your house attempting to harm you or your family you have the right to shoot them. My brother had several guns including a WW2 British rifle that he brought back from England. He was in the US Airforce until he got hurt doing his job on base. He passed away at the age of 52 in 2009. I can’t believe it’s been 15 years that he’s gone. My mother passed away the year before him. I miss them both so much.
16:07 It's varies from state to state, where I live you are allowed to shoot them if they enter your house but somewhere like Maryland you cant unless they attack you or attempt to.
Defintly a lack of education plays a role in what these people believe. In my wife country (Philippines), they believe in a lot of fake stuff and are superstitious. For example:
1. If you sleep with your hair wet, you can go blind.
2. After a funeral or wake, you don't go directly to the families home, you go elsewhere first to the evil spirits don't follow you home.
3. If you get lost in the wild, you wear your shirt inside out to break the curse that was put upon you (by a mythological creature) to keep you lost.
4.Brides should NOT try on their wedding dress as it may lead to a cancelled wedding. In some cases brides will try on the lining of the dress only before the dress is fully made.
5. Going to local faith healers can get you healed as opposed to going to doctors.
6. Putting cotton balls/fluff on your newborns head will prevent it from getting sick or attacked by evil spirits.
Heck, one rural area, every year they will dig up their dead relatives, dress them up in clothes, have them hold drinks and things they enjoyed. Then take pictures with the bodies. So weird. Thankully my wife doesn't believe in any of that stuff really. Though she still thinks if your head gets wet during rain, you will catch a cold.
Your allowed to use deadly force to defend yourself and others if your life or there life is in jeopardy in America. Some states have stand your ground laws where you just have to think your life is in danger, someone doesn't even have to be attacking you.

I'm from Montana, the location of the last story, and stand your ground laws are followed here. Montana is a very gun friendly state, so much so its very rare to find a household without a gun, but there's also a level of respect for guns here that I don't see in many other states. So the basic idea is if you are dumb enough to break into a Montana home you do that knowing there is almost a 100% chance that person owns a gun and will have no qualms putting you down.
There is a saying here in the states it’s better to be judged by 12 than carried by six
The use of deadly force in these scenarios were someone breaks into your house or is trying to kill you basically no one goes to jail for using deadly force in this scenario

To answer this, no. You can't scream when you are being strangled an up until the moment he wraps that cord around their neck they were willing participants who thought what was happening was a normal part of the ritual so they wouldn't have thought to scream.
It's really scary that this guy used womens insecurities so effectively against them. Women are told all the time that their value is based on their physical appearance and have been for centuries. It shouldn't be like that and a lot of women are starting to realize they are worth more than their outward appearance but not nearly enough.
What you can do, legally, varies by state. Most states follow what's referred to as the "Castle law." Which in simple terms means you can do whatever you deem necessary to defend yourself, others and your property. Lethal force is an option.
Important to note, this usually ONLY applies inside the main living structure of your primary residence (thus the term, "Castle law.") So it generally wouldn't apply to say a beach house you weekend in occasionally, nor dose it apply to other structures that's not the primary living structure, so it wouldn't apply to a garage for example.
Some states vary both ways, California, I think, you're still required to try to retreat even if you're in your own home. Texas, anywhere on your property is covered.
On the first story with the ship, the reporter may have insisted that he goes on the air even though his daughter was missing. It may not have been the producers who made him do it.
In the 3rd story, in America you could legally kill them by any means and not be charged. This however doesn't guarantee you won't be charged, but in the story MrBallen told it would most definitely be justified.
In America you could shoot that person as long as you believed a life was in imminent danger.
In Canada it's illegal to carry any weapon for the purpose of self-defense. Per their Criminal Code, a weapon can be “anything designed, used or intended to cause death or injury or even just to threaten or intimidate another person.” --- -BUT- ---
Canadians have a right to defend their property or themselves as long as their defensive actions are reasonable under the circumstances. This means that if you injure an intruder entering your home or property, you would need to show that the circumstances gave you no other reasonable choice.
That last one is some real life John Wick kind of focus and sheer will!
Self defense is pretty much the law of the land throughout the US, though different states describe it differently. Many states have "stand your ground" laws, which allow a homeowner to shoot any trespasser without warning. In some other states, anyone who "feels threatened" can shoot another person without cause. They only need to "feel threatened". The Florida version of this came under heavy criticism when a white homeowner actually pursued an unarmed black youth for several blocks for no reason other than he was black and then shot him, claiming that he felt threatened. The shooter got off in court, and the kid is still dead. Florida has not changed its laws.
The last story was the criminal actually the wife's co-worker. As this story was going, I thought it was a planned attack and the wife was a part of this (having an affair with her co-worker) to get rid of the husband. I am glad she was not, and they both survived the attack. Her husband was a superman. I would have thought he would have died by blood loss, but to have the energy to continuing pounding this criminal with the butt end of his rifle.
The Shaman, where was the families of the other 46 women who lost their lives and went out looking for them. Since they did not go, I assume the woman kept their shut as the Shaman said to. The family probably thought, eternal beauty, maybe the ladies ran away to find a new life. Did the Shaman own the sugarcane farm. I would think during harvest time, the workers might be suspicious of the mounds of dirt or the smell of decaying bodies.
What strength the newsman had to continue his job of reporting the ship collision. I assume a newsman can switch his personal life off while his business duties are being done. What great news that his daughter survived. Unfortunately, she lost her stepfather and stepsister. The young girl was calling out to her mother. Was the mother onboard, if yes, I assume she did not die since they only mentioned the other two. Too bad the ships could not see each other sooner, enough time for staff to knock on the doors to that side of the ship and evacuate them. When the story started with the Andrea Doria, I thought it was the time it was hijack/terrorists and the man in the wheelchair was thrown off.
In America if someone is coming at you with a weapon with intent to harm you can shoot them or defend yourself. If they’re running away from you, you should not fire but coming at you it’s you or them. I can’t speak for every state but I think that’s common defense law. The second story was sick, he made the women dig their own graves (without them knowing of course), so awful.

Depends on what state you are in. Some states you have the right to end their lives. Some you cant.
The law about self defense is different in different states. You have to know the laws especially when weapons are used. Most times its equal force.
In America we have self defense. But it’s different, if someone trespasses in your home you can shoot on sight and attacking you is defensible by lethal force. Kids have killed grown men in defense of their home here.
And why would the women go to the shaman for beauty? Because their culture embraces this type of belief in magic potions and incantations.

That husband is a fucking hero, what a man, to get beat over your head, stabbed in the chest with an 8 inch blade, and then proceed to still be living and load a rifle shoot an attacker, and then get shot in the leg and still be able to protect your wife, he should of been given a Medal of Honor

My thoughts would be if he’s a shaman that can give you riches and eternal beauty then why didn’t he perform this ritual on himself and give himself riches and eternal beauty? He was an ugly man and obviously wasn’t wealthy as he was still having to work planting sugar cane. You would think those two things alone would have gave them an idea that something isn’t right here when he’s ugly and not rich.
In the third story, I’d be shooting and on the phone with the cops while i did it. I don’t plan on being victimized in my own home.

In that last story, the serial killer had actually previously murdered an entire family in their home savagely. He got too bold and ate the butt of a rifle

That second story, it was in Indonesia. Try to use your brain and realize that different cultures have different beliefs. Acting like those girls were just stupid for going along with it is pretty ignorant
I think in the US these days an intruder could kick down your front door, search the house with a gun while yelling that they were going to kill everyone in the house, finally get to the room that you are in and kick open that door where you shoot them once in the leg stopping the attack and you would probably still get sued by the intruder and arrested pending the outcome of the investigation.
Yeah, but we also have the Make My Day law in many states. In Colorado, if someone breaks into your house and you have reason to believe they intend to hurt you or someone else in the home, you can shoot them dead, even if they haven’t actually done anything yet, and this law makes you immune from prosecution. That’s oversimplified, there are some caveats, but this is the gist.
@@lkayh which is why living in California is sometimes not great. California is so anti-gun that I would probably think twice about shooting an intruder which would probably get me shot and killed. It would be nice to not have to fear a justified self-defense shooting but I guess I'd have to move away from California for that.
A friend of mine had her place broken into at one point. She told the sherif if she had been there she'd have shot him with Rick salt. The sherif said if you shoot, shoot to kill. A dead man can't sue. And another incident that happened when I was a kid, was a kid got in with the wrong crowd and broke into a mom and pop pizza place and the owner shot him. He survived, but his family sued the owner of the pizza place and won. The place had to close down.
