People think of trees as long-lived. But your average tree does not live long. In the urban setting most trees are planted too deep. If the root flare is not visible the tree will always be stressed, prone to insect infestation Etc.. weed wackers kill many many trees. Most tree care companies do a poor job of pruning, often over pruning and or performing many heading cuts on trees. These heading Cuts heal slowly, if at all. It's not only reduces the trees graceful appearance it also invites rot and substantially shortens the life of the tree. It takes many years to grow a mature tree but only an afternoon to cut one down! We generally have no idea that a tree is slated for removal until we see the stump! It is great advice to talk to your mayor and other officials about the importance of trees in our landscapes. Thanks for this great video!

Our rich and diverse tree cover in and near Portland, Oregon make our urban area one of the nation's most desirable and livable. I'm standing next to a 600-year old Douglas fir 280 ft. tall and 8 ft. in diameter in nearby Oxbow Regional Park.

Father Chris, my priest neighbor in Queens, came on my property and without permission cut down my tree. He didn't apologize or replace what he destroyed. My response is to plant 100 trees. There has to be more tree lovers than haters.

Yes, I do love the trees in my neighborhood; the hackberries, the bur oaks, the Austrian pines, the honeylocusts, the silver maples, the basswoods........

I love the trees - but do you feel the difference between asphalt roads & non-asphalt trails? Hundreds of Millions of dollars are being spent to cut down trees to add asphalt road in our last remaining spaces. Dollars used for "environmental benefit" are net causing environmental damage all in the name of connecting people and nature. We need: a national tree counting effort and an alternative to asphalt.

Sadly, this video is 8 years old as of 2022 and there hasn't been hardly any progress for this idea in our country. In fact, it's just the opposite. We continue to remove forest for urban developing to accommodate an ever growing population. Greed is the reason this sort of thing wont work here in the US.
