Not many people can say they have been this close to a Concorde in flight. Incredible footage.
I feel very fortunate to have seen the Concorde in person in mid 90s I believe..I heard in news that the Concorde was coming to Tampa airport! I rushed down to Tampa and saw it do like in this video an international flyby..but to my horror..I forgot my camera!😮😭
..specially when I saw on tv that a pilot said that the last 7 seconds before touchdown "everyone is a passenger"...
Flew over my house twice a day everyday until it retired….on take off it was far far louder than this.

I'm 44 now. I was lucky enough to be there to see this absolutely perfect machine this day. One of it's last flights i believe. One of my most memorable moments in life with my dad. I love Oshkosh! Such a great experience😊

how you were all permitted to position that close is fortunate but i doubt that would be acceptable today. but that's incredible footage of this landing!
Before 9/11 and especially in the 1980s you could just stand on the runway embankment or the tarmac and record planes. The same way you record trains today you could do at the airport. Rural airports you could just sit out there in a motorhome and nobody cared as long as you weren't impeding traffic or making a hazard.
You can still get pretty close to the runway at Oshkosh, but there are boundaries now that are a good bit farther back. Volunteers (e.g. parking marshalers) still get to hang out this close. If you really wanted to and were willing to put in the work as a volunteer, it's still possible to get this close.
I saw the Concorde there in '94 I think. Didn't realize as a kid how big of a deal it was at the time.

They were so far ahead of their time.
Christopher Fisher - had the europeans designed Concord for 200 pax, it may have survived the fuel and environmental restricrions of the times. America didnt buy any for their own sour grapes attitude. Yanx could put a man on the moon, but couldnt get near Concords intro into actual service.
Yes, they were ahead of their time for the late 1960s and early 1970s, but by 1990s their avionics were becoming out of date, as was so much else about them. BA had designed interior upgrades and avionics were upgraded, but the basic airframe and engines were getting towards the end of their service life. Don't forget a supersonic airframe has a much shorter service life than sub-sonic, due to the extra stresses from repeated heating and cooling. Yes, a magnificent aircraft, but now well past their use-by date.
Richard British Airways had costed the upgrade of Concorde's avionics to what is called a 'glass cockpit' but they decided against it because the cost involved would never be recovered in the life of the aircraft. But the older analogue gauges were still reliable and they still worked well up until she was retired. The engines could always be replaced so that wasn't a factor either. Aircraft engines are frequently replaced. And the people who maintained Concorde at BA Maintenance in Cardiff and Heathrow loved her and looked after her. No other aircraft in BA's fleet was looked after more than the Concorde fleet. And while flying supersonic does put more stress on an airframe, Concorde was still good for another 10 to 15 years flying at the time she was retired. It was finance and politics that finished her. As an aircraft, she was still completely sound.
Anthony Tolhurst was never a design problem or emissions problem: they who kill the Concorde was the US government in 1973, only jealousy...

The problem is there isn’t enough folks that want to ride on it to justify the expense. I had a chance to ride on it in the 90s for $500. I turned it down.
Bassy, improved safety gadgets would not be required. Concorde had a perfect safety record. The only crash was 100% pilot error.
@@PenzancePete I don't think so. Pilots was very experienced and often tested. On runway was some metal debris from other plane (I think from DC 10) and on landing gear missed spacer pad between wheel.
Can anything top that, maybe only the Vulcan. Truly amazing. Really wish I could see this today☹
I’d imagine a TU-160 would be even more impressive from that range. Also the XB-70 if it wasn’t a museum piece lol.

I was there in 1994 and saw it land. Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were also there that year. My pictures with them is one of my most cherished.

I used to see Concorde flying over Bristol several times a day, and my god , she was beautiful..
SHE'S NOW IN A NICE NEW MUSEUM AT FILTON BRISTOL OR AT LEAST G--BOAF IS.
I live 12 miles south of Bristol, and on the day she was returnig home for the last time, I kept going outside to see if I could hear her. i not only heard her, but could see her intermittently, circling over Bristol in the far distance. Later, on the TV news, I saw her make that fanatastic low flight over Brunels Clifton Suspension Bridge. The picture was shown all over the world, one of history's greatest.

It always amazes me to see Concorde at locations in the US where she was enthusiastically received by the American folks there. Did any of them ever realise that their own aviation industry and the then government had worked insidiously behind the scenes across the globe exerting their influence far and wide to ensure that this beautiful aeroplane was never a commercial success for its manufacturer and would never pose a threat to the US aviation industry. The most perfect karma however was that it’s manufacturer later became AIRBUS, and in recent years rather than compete on the basis of design and innovation, Boeing decided to cut corners and adapt old design, read...MAX 8 😎
Meh. Sonic booms over land was never a commercially viable business model. Meaning Concorde would only ever fly over oceans and it couldn't fly Pacific distances so you're basically looking at Atlantic only routes. The government didn't kill it through insidious means, it was dead on arrival. Additionally the flying public voted for cheaper over faster and preferred slower jumbos over more expensive supersonic planes. It was only for well-healed business travellers. It was an incredibly niche aircraft and when it got older it was simply to expensive to keep flying.
not really, they made an experiment to see if people would have been able to endure sonic booms on a daily basis and found out that people didn't like it so the ban over populated areas was born

@@realtalk1310 it was too costly and the average person couldn't afford to even fly on this. Even a flying museum couldn't accept enough enough donations to keep one in airworthiness
Virgin offered to buy the BA fleet but that was rejected out of hand. They didn’t want Virgin stealing the limelight.
@@bunkerboy02 I think that was a Branson PR stunt. If BA had called his bluff and offered to sell them, he'd have wriggled out of it somehow. It was already impossible to run such an ageing and thirsty plane at anywhere near a profit back then - today it would be a huge money pit and, anyway, it was due to be phased out around now (2022) anyway. That said, it was by a million miles the most beautiful thing in the sky, and it's a great shame that nothing has come close to taking its place.

I remember as a kid when Concord both Air France and British Airways used to have a Training base in Shannon Airport Co Clare Ireland.A quite Airport with just shy of 2 miles of a Runway so it was the perfect Airport for it and a space over the Atlantic for the New Crews being brought online to practise.Nearly every year with out fail Concord would Arrive at Shannon Airport.All day long doing touch and goes.Alway a sight to behold.Days long gone.😢

John McGuire haha. it’s called the intrepid sea air & space museum. has an aircraft carrier and a submarine as well as the concorde. been there numerous times since i was a kid

I heard them fly over London years ago. So recognisable, like some huge machine in the air. Nothing else had that sound, loud but precise like lots and lots of Singer sewing machines.
