- First released by Bill Monroe Lyrics:
The wind is blowing cross the mountains
And out on the valley way below.
It sweeps the grave of my darling
When I die that's where I want to go.
Lord, send the angels for my darling
And take her to that home on high
I'll wait my time out here on earth love
And come to you when I die
.
I hear a voice out in the darkness
It moans and whispers through the pines
I know it's my sweetheart a calling
I hear her through the walls of time.
Lord, send the angels for my darling
And take her to that home on high
I'll wait my time out here on earth love
And come to you when I die.
Our names are carved upon a tombstone
I promised you before you died
Our love will bloom forever darling
When we rest side by side.
Lord, send the angels for my darling
And take her to that home on high
I'll wait my time out here on earth love
And come to you when I die...

My gf recently died. This song has brought me much comfort
every so often someone uncovers potential in a song that we didn't know was there I think while many may have enjoyed the original it is hard to deny that this version is nearly perfect
Best version ever!
Don't get no better than this yall!!
This the 4th time I've played this in less than 24 hours. So lovely
The sound of this piece is incredible.
I love bluegrass so much. It touches my soul like no other style of music.
blue grass is amazing makes u wanna tap ur feet to the beat
Only if it's good. This is great!
....ain't it great.
Hannah--Wanna sing/play in our band??
You should play it! Bluegrass is way better for the player than the listener :)
Tons of fun. Bass is very easy, so you can get started right away!
Smooth like silk. Beautiful 🎶
Today, I have experienced Ricky Skaggs for the first time. WOW.
I've had that mandolin intro stuck in my head for weeks. It will NOT go away.
At least it's because I like it. Usually it's the ones I don't like that get stuck in my head.
I don't usually use the word "powerful" seriously, but this version of this tune is just that!
This is timeless and hauntingly beautiful.
I'm pining to see them hills of East Tennessee!
Living in the lower parts of the Appalachian mountains of PA is nice but when you go north you see just how deep those valleys are when you’re traveling the mountainside on a backroad or main road. This song fits those kinds of drives.
Kentucky born, Kentucky proud :)
I love this version but noticed a banjo was missing so I wrote a banjo part to play with it and it just gives me the chills when we add the upright bass with it.
What a fun song to sing along with.
why does this video have no views. its GREAT tune!
A wonderful song, and such powerful lyrics!
With all due respect to Rowan/Monroe, this is the best version. Ricky plays it in B, whereas Monroe did it in C. Adding the A chord (flat VII) at the end of the first line brings out the melancholy and gives a modal feeling that the original lacks. And adding the F# (V) chord at the end of the last line is also a big improvement. The amazing guitar solo is the icing on the cake.
Love this song.
Good morning Christina Mae Bush..!!! Dear Lord please watch over and protect her and our children and family in Jesus mighty name amen!!!!
Gotta love it!
I first heard a guitar player at our jam do this song. I then heard the Peter Rowan version which I really liked. This is a good rendition also.
Taps my soul n sends me.
The blind banjer picker I've performed with 43 years really shuns this tune. Don't know why!
Pete Rown and Big Mon wrote a great tune IMO. Hannah. I've loved Bg since I was 12. Got my
1st standup bass when I was 15. Played in 3 different bands.
Greetings baby !!! I am in Eureka but heading back to Manila!!!! God bless and protect you in Jesus mighty name Amen
I 💘 u Christina Mae Bush...!!! God protect you in Jesus mighty name amen...

Chills.
For my love, Rhoda. RIP darling.

I am what some people may call a "hippie" but you know what I do appreciate music like this, so call me a folkie.....lol. Don't care much about the words though, aint religious
All the thumbs down must be Puke Bryan fans
Paul Brewster!!!!!
I know right...
2020
It's cut off a bit at the end.
@TheSokodelic The lyrics aren't at all that religious. More hippy, spiritual than religious. Come on now self proclaimed hippy. Great lyrics. Up there with Robert Hunter. I hope you know who that is, but then again, I have my doubts in you.
"Lord" and "Angels" are religious terms, as they are form in "religious" text, like the bible and the quran (Allah is just another name for Lord). Doubt if you so wish, I don't pretend to know everything. And my exact words were that "some people may call me a "hippie"...I am not "self-proclaimed"...ugh...too many quotations, haha. I don't wish to argue...just to defend my statement.
chill out man. good song.
Let the man speak his mind. No need to preach to him “to chill.”
Doubt all you want. In my experience doubt leads to true knowledge. Question, grow Caterpillar!
A religious bluegrass song? Unheard of.....
hippies are dead, theres no more true hippies
