9 yo me was there!! Turned 10 next week on Grand final. Cracking game. Remember Paul Dear ripping Garry Hocking's jumper off. Had the replay in VHS. Thankyou for uploading this 😌
I was at this game... if I had been a Hawthorn coach I would've shredded the likes of Hudson and his fellow "light" forwards for their lack of heart and execution. I still think that seeing this today. Gary Hocking should not have left this game in any state to play future football.
This was not fun. If we'd have won,...we'd have stood a good chance of winning...especially against Hawthorn. Eagles were just too good for us. Mainwearinng, Lewis and Heady are underrated.
Dunno. May have been a pretty tall order to pinch that one, especially with the likes of Hinkley and Brownless remaining out of the side. Ablett would have missed that one too with his suspension but who's to say what form he would have been in. Had one good show against St Kilda at Moorabin after his comeback but was otherwise patchy for the remainder of the season. But again, we'll never know.
@@zappafox Good points, and I'd forgotten about the injuries. It just killed at the time to be a few points short of playing off. I went the week after fully expecting to beat WC...l think l perhaps just said what l did to give further praise to those three great Eagle champs that absolutely killed us, especially Lewis.
@@zappafox Good memory there! I attended all 3 Geelong finals that year... we were decimated by 3/4 time in the Prelim (plus the weather at Waverley was diabolical!!), so I reckon had we somehow beaten West Coast (who had the wood on us for years around this time), we would"ve put out half the reserves team in the GF! I remember in addition to no Ablett, Brownless & Hinkley, Garry Hocking was injured, Stoneham was on one leg as was Damian Bourke. They couldn't stop Sumich and he was the difference with 6 goals in the wet. I have to say, watching this Geelong team again after many years, I really admired the efforts put in by lesser lights such as Trevor Spencer, Trevor Poole (if he'd only run in 15m further and kicked the goal at the end there !!😭) and Jamie Lamb. Thanks for the upload (despite the result!) 🖖
I was there..just started watching... It was disappointing not ro win....wooda meant a 50/-50 chance at a Flag...but we were lucky to get close...and then l thought we'd pick the Eagles off but they were much better than us, as they'd go on to prive tome and again...

The era where everything went their way.
What a game, though.
Love the tight shorts
we had the wood over the Cats in that era & always found a way to win.....bit like their 'Kennett curse' era over us.

geelong were smarting prior to the game because Gary Ablett snr suspended for 2 weeks
To be fair, he only belted Nathan Burke with a forearm in full view.
Thanks I was wondering where Ablett was
@@zappafox
I can't remember that but I'm sure Burke deserved it...
Hawthorn playing terrible.. they look half as good as they actually were in this game. G Hocking is a champion.
perhaps, but Geelong were without Ablett, and Brownless was lame.
