Yes ! The way I see it, the vials are just a medication, but the moment Ink took them, it make him work like a normal person. Situation that should make one happy make him happy, situation that should make one sad will make him sad, continuing so on and so forth. The emotions aren't fake. He have them in a different way than a normal monster, but they are just as genuine. It just means that Ink was given the ability to willingly shut them off (for example, when his work requiere him to do something he doesn''t want to, like seen in Underverse, when he release XGaster. He went emotionless, letting the color drain, because he didn"t "want to regret" his decision, implying that this is something he would not have been able to do, with his emotions on.) In this kind of vision, Ink suffers from a disability. Not a visible one, unfortunately (since as a result, it is less "acknowledge" and may lead to people blaming him like : "why didnt you tell me you have this mental condition ?" "was it ever relevant to the situation/relationship we had ? No ? Then, you have your answer"), but either something more like a chronic disease or a mental handicap... or both. As a result, he needs a regular and heavy treatment (like someone with an incurable chronic disease) and he has psychological issues beyond his control (all of the "struggling to understand feelings" and all)... and if he takes too much of one of his medications, it affects him emotionally, making him more likely to feel a specific emotion. (Ex : Taking too much red, will make him more violent, taking too much blue, may make him depressed (if you represent sadness by blue)... too much pink, which usually represent love, may make him express his love more than usual... so on and so forth)
Oh yeah, and also, what if he does feel emotions but its only weak emotions which feel fake to him and his vials help make them feel real? No idea if i make sense lol

My theory as to why Ink survived (I don't know if there's already a Canon answer to this), is that since the AU was unfinished, the creator hadn't yet created what would happen when the soul broke, so Ink didn't turn into dust. Just as the other characters' personalities had not yet been created, Ink was the only one to have a finished personality. Maybe because most AUs are focused on the Sanses.

Yup ! Plus, Ink has pretty vivid reactions, usually. Ironically, he is one of the most emotional Sans, in most depictation. He still is able of pure rational and logical thinking, because it is more intuitive to him than emotional intelligence, but he rarely hides his emotions.

as a sucker for weiredly fd up kinda not that functional realitionships i love the idea that Error would know that inks emotions are fake and isnt actually capable of love but he chooses to ignore that and forget about it to avoid the heartbreak and thier realitionships is just based of blissfull ignorance so as long as he makes sure ink takes the vials its all okay for them but when he doesent and Error sees it he cant really handle it and kinda panics to get him to take them as fast as he can bc im weired like that
I like to think that Ink's vials basically just return his emotions to him. The paint is from his creator after all!! Loved this series, you did an amazing job of capturing Ink's character!! :)
Comyet/Myebi has stated that ink doesn’t trust his own feelings, so he chooses how he reacts logically, so yes. He does feel with his vials. It’s like how a prosthetic leg helps you walk! ^^
Plus, it make sense. As far as he knows, his "default" state is to be empty and as a result, to have a more logical and rational outlook on a situation. He values feelings, but he also knows there are things he has to do for the sake of his work, and that he doesn't like, so he shut down his emotions to do his work without it getting in the way.
Oh, and.... The paint is not just from Ink's creator. It seems to be implied that the creativity of the entire fandom is what gives him the paints, which he stores in a vial (though, if his creator, as in the one in the story, started creating again, then yes, they woul also contridute)

In fact, I don't know how Ink is supposed to acquire a reset button, because in Undertale it is explained that only a creature with determination can have that power, humans come with determination by default while a monster is not compatible with it, it is because that when Alphys injected determination into monsters they ended up fusing and creating amalgams, this is reinforced when only Killer and Cross have a reset button (in Cross's case it is an overwrite button but it is basically the same), because Killer did a pact with Chara and his soul merged with Chara's, which gave him determination and made it possible for him to use the reset button, something similar happened with Cross, XChara's soul ended up inside his body and by having determination he can use the overwrite button, Ink doesn't even have a soul, which in Undertale is implied to be the place where determination is kept, not only because Frisk's soul is the one of determination but also because when Flowey absorbed the 6 human souls it gave him more determination than Frisk and that is why he was able to control the game to his liking, restarting and returning the game to its old save point to confuse the player, something that, as they say in Undertale, he could do before since he was the creature with the most determination of the underground, which ended when Frisk arrived, who had determination by default, and he recovered that "power" since he absorbed the 6 human souls because obviously 6 souls beat 1

Wait until the bad guys find out taking the vials is the easiest way to defeat ink- (when ink doesn’t take his vials he becomes monochrome and motionless with no thoughts like a doll pretty much. Which is why it’s the easiest way)
