And done beautifully too. The Fat Controller doesn't have to do any getting severe, he just mediates with the bloke who is. Mavis almost wastes her last chance but immediately redeems herself, an unusual twist for Wilbert but somehow he does it without making the story seem convoluted.
I heard another cassette was planned but the marketing for the show led them to cancel it. Shame, I'd have loved to hear Rushton do some of the early Christopher Awdry books.
@@CelestinaakaClonaClox9999 Michael Angelis is the only known narrator of *Percy and the Trousers.* Although Johnny Morris narrated Henry the Green Engine, he left out that story.
Maybe it’s just cuz mavis was one of the first ones I had as a kid but mavis has always been one of my favourites. Feel like she shoulda had more episodes or stories.
It's a shame that this is Wilbert's last Railway Series story. It feels so anticlimactic, which I think is why the book is set a few years before its publication. This would mean that _Sleeping Beauty_ is, chronologically speaking, Wilbert's last story.
(sigh) Why oh why did Wilbert Awdry decided to retire from making more of his greatest book stories ever becoming a grand piece of literature and entertainment inspired of railroading? He could've done so much more to stretch every single character and their arcs through new journeys still happening now as there were then in the past. I think it's really outstanding that there are folk out there still keeping the man's legacy alive and thriving on creating more relative content for both the children's sake and theirs - all because of Mr. Awdry's enthusiasm of railroading. Great story and Wilbert Awdry's last, found out that Peter Edwards the illustrator died 3rd April has died too! RIP! His illustrations were great but I loved John T Kenney's best!
I wish I was able to download this and use it for a remake. I probably wouldn't be able to make a good remake, but I would like to figure out how to do water stuff with models.
Since always! All steam locomotives have whistles. Toby has a bell for going along the tramway, so as to warn people he's there but without making so much noise.
This is a classic story but I HATE IT as the final story for the OG RWS. Really wished that the Rev had written this one first and then done Duke the Lost Engine as the finale
@e-122psi3 That was written with the TV series in mind and separate from the Railway Series. Also, I think that 'Christmas Party' was adapted from an idea by Britt Allcroft and David Mitton.
This story makes the same minor mistake as the TV series did. The narrator clearly says the men anchored Toby with ropes, yet the illustrations clearly show chains instead.

So Sad, Rushton's last narration, he was truly the best, and reverend Awdry's last story too :(
Personally I think the narrator in Percy and the Trousers was best.

Wait........ Mavis Had Eyelashes In The Railway Series That's Cool
I agree.
She's cute

The sequence of Toby approaching the bridge is absolutely Chilling
Percy went to get some stones to take to the harbour.
*Sniff*
It's also the Rev. W. Awdry's last story.
Technically that was Thomas' Christmas Party.
@@e-122psi3 no that was Christopher
@@dalekinthewater4708 Nah it has Rev W Awdry credited on the cover.
Christopher wrote Thomas and the Missing Christmas Tree.

I had no idea he died. That's sad. I liked his illustrations.
Did he do these illustrations from the Bluebell engine?
Yes he illustrated the Stepney book too

I still don’t get how the siding arrangements were ‘awkward’. Seem straightforward in the picture
True
Nice one.
wait...toby as a wisthle!? since when!?
Since branch line engines.
In the books Toby has a whistle on the back of his cab.
Since always! All steam locomotives have whistles. Toby has a bell for going along the tramway, so as to warn people he's there but without making so much noise.
I like edward better of detail in faces and engine, but for illustrating it's John
The story toke place in 1963
I prefer when Percy was used in the TV version, as the Manager here, at least to me, is being to harsh towards Mavis. And I always hate that part.
In the TV series, you never see or know that Toby has a whistle.
