Janich is the man! I think Martial Blade Concepts is the most effective knife defense curriculum out today. EDC knives (I'm not taking 9" choppers) simply don't cut deeply enough into vital organs to immediately incapacitate an attacker. The genius that Janich is, he has created a curriculum that teaches you to cut the muscle groups that will stop the attack immediately through an intuitive process with consistency across different movements. On a side note, I would LOVE to know what and how Janich carries a blaster!!
Hey Larry, static lines are really very simple. Just fasten some cord onto your sheath by putting it thru the eyelets of the sheath and loop it around your belt . You may need to experiment a little bit to get the right length as well as using the right eyelets on the sheath - in other word use the eyelets on the bottom of the sheath (near the tip) so that the sheath lines up with the angle of the pull. Keep the cord short enough that the sheath comes off as soon as the knife is around 6-9 inches from your body.
Blades have ben around for millions of years, guns have only been around for hundreds of years, firearms are relatively young compared to blades. If you run out of ammo, have a malfunction, lose ammo, etc. you can always turn to a blade.
You guys brought up a good point. Most attacks come for the left side of your body. As a left handed shooter and knife fighter, how can I best guard my head and neck while drawing with my dominant hand?
CNT12696 that’s actually a good concern. In Filipino Kali that is known as a #1 strike. Research that with videos on RUclips. Use that information and scenarios and watch for moments when you think you would feel comfortable drawing or moments of opportunity. Hope that helps
Huge Mike fan here! Thanks for getting him into USCCA & CCM. I have been watching him for years. Mike's got some great one-liners in some of his training videos. Check out his youtube. And as always...does not apply in NY & NJ.
No disrespect intended. Just remembering NJ police saying "whether the knife is this big (1'' finger motion) or this big (full arm motion), you are getting charged the same. Pocket knife confiscated and was given a citation for "possessing a weapon not manifestly appropriate for lawful use." Paid fines and drove back to America (PA). Seems that self-defense in unlawful in NJ. I just go unarmed for the whole day if I need to drive in or through NJ/NY. Transporting incorrectly not worth the issues.

Oh, I know that... it was just teasing. Sorry, it's hard to infer that inflection. Many of the people at USCCA know me as I'm one of their Certified Instructors. I'm usually really well armed.. sometimes carrying 2 guns, a tactical pen, a spring assisted flipper I keep razor sharp and a stun gun which I use in teaching non-lethal means for those who can't reach that moral decision to use lethal force. Add to that years of CQC training of various forms, I'm probably going to break a pelvic bone, crush a trachea or blowout a knee or ankle before the perp even looks for a second strike. I am genuinely interested in seeing what he'll recommend, but after thousands of draws from concealment and knowing I can put 3 shots on target in under 2 seconds from start to finish, I'll trust the odds of my gun. At 6'3", 200lbs... I don't consider myself "big" but in Krav and other CQC training other classmates never wanted to go against me. :( ;) Again, sorry you misunderstood... many would consider me crazy for keeping a Glock with one in the pipe pointed at my junk crazy. I literally trust it with my life.
It’s all relevant people commenting and training to defend against a knife attack , the truth is and this instructor will confirm it is , if you want to realistically defend a knife attack you need to learn how to fight with one , understand the angles ,the targets and the areas on the body that can take a sacrificial stab or cut without bleeding out , understand the different grips so you can understand the possible attacks from it , it’s all numbers , on a clock face of 11 , sounds complicated yet it’s simple , if you don’t understand how a knife can be used you will never be able to defend against one, RUclips is full of fake knife attacks and defenses , seek out a qualified instructor and have a look .
