Games Workshop's rules for Battlefleet Gothic said that there was a penalty for ships that were unpainted. Essentially, they wrote into the rules that they were brand new, rushed into service, and were undergoing their trials before being fully commissioned ships. As such, they had a minus 1 to leadership as the crew had basically only just met. They would continue this way until the ship was painted, in which case the penalties were removed and the ship was a full-fledged member of the fleet.
I thought this was a VERY good way to encourage people to paint their ships, which doesn't take long with BFG anyway.

I never had the opportunity to play BFG but that's a very interesting rule and honestly the way it's phrased makes sense as it makes it seem like until the ships are painted it's more of a shake down cruise to get everything sorted and the crew in line with one another. I like it thanks (y)

I completely agree with you! I play Dungeons and Dragons and I had another player pull the same thing except I didn't have a figure that represented my character so I pulled out a marker that I wrote my characters name on it and he had a fit about it saying you don't have a figure so you can't play! D&D doesn't have any rules saying you have to have a figure just something that represents you!

That's absolutely ridiculous! I've run 5e since it launched, even did the playtest, and no there's no "rule" saying you have to have a mini. D&D isn't 40k where it's "What You See Is What You Get", for the most part it's all "theater of the mind". To be blunt, that DM is friggin douche-pickle. Fuck that DM, there's better DM's out there so don't let that asshole ruin your gaming.

In our group, our "Armies" are in a continuous state of chaos....err....being built, but like you, we feel they're good enough to be played with.
Its not like we're taking them to tournaments or anything. We're just having fun!

    Schofield Tank: www.militaryfactory.com/armor/detail.asp?armor_id=946
I'd say field it as a truck with a tread option. I'd probably try to replace the turret, as it appears to be the weak point of the model to me. Build up a shielded box with a cutout on each side to shoot out of. Cap the box with a magnet underneath the top so you can pop on different weapon options to the top. Anything from a machine gun to a missile rack to a harpoon gun.

Actually we played with right-out-of-the-box-models all the time, because I invested all my spare time working on a solid terrain. Just because all MB or HW models ARE pre-painted and I didn't want to let them have their race between unprepared food boxes and cans I just watched this as my priority to have a good-looking game.
But I love that our gaming community doesn't expect painted cars or terrain. And of course no WUSIWUG.
I personally prefer the WUSIWUG-Style for my own models but thats just because I don't want to drive the same cars all the time when any model could be any car with any weapon configuration. I also think it's nice for beginners to see what equipment is on the model itself, not only on the dashboard. But like I said, thats only personal preference, I would never expect that from other players.

I agree! Also those Zamacs are awesome. I do wonder if you shouldn't cover up that name and address though. Some folk worry about that, but if you don't that's cool too.

I've moved so no worries :D Though I am getting a P.O. Box for donations or "Hey paint this for me!" type challenges where you send it, I paint it, then send it back :D

I hated walking into my local store to be told they wont play with me because nobody would bring my army to a tournament.

That's crazy stupid in my opinion. If someone takes the time to put an army together to game up, even if it's just primered, then I'll game up with them. Their loss not yours!

The faq does not mention using wrecking balls as exploding rams, the mention was using wrecking balls as a 360 ram, which is not allowed because you can only 360 mount "shooting" upgrades.
I'm not sure why you focus so much on WYSIWYG, in my experience of wargaming WYSIWYG is just as optional as painting your minis according to rules written.
Some people just enjoy playing with WYSIWYG stuff and some people enjoy playing with fully painted stuff. (Mostly these people are linked :p )
Now, I completely agree with you, I hate when events keep players away by setting model and painting standards, but I do understand why it has to be done sometime.
However, I have yet to experience anyone turn another player away from a casual game because of painting standard or WYSIWYG.
I think the issue comes down to this discussion being on the internet, it's super easy to be misunderstood online, and it's even more easy to be a sarcastic a-hole, and people tend to "overread" comments. All of this together creates toxicity in a community, but you only really see this behavior online.
Anyway, just my 2 cents :)

I focused on the WYSIWYG aspect as it directly relates to what I have seen happen as well as others. But yes, internet speak is always up to interpretation from individual to individual. A misplaces punctuation, wrong word, emoji, all can change what a person makes of a text statement from the original intent of the original person posting the statement.

I wouldn't mind playing against unpainted cars, I'd never take anyone to talk over it... but:
1: There's typically only 3 cars to paint, C'mon man it's not like 40k where there are hundreds
2: Games are better when everything is painted, it helps with the immersion
3: The factory paint jobs of hotwheels etc don't fit the theme of Gaslands

I don't care if my opponent has painted or modded cars? I just want to play and have fun I had two friends who never painted any models except for priming. Warhammer Fantasy used to require for tournaments to have 3 colors minimum. We all know that painted and modded models roll better : Agree 100% with you One thing you have to think about, is it's facebook. You might have 500 players who are fine with no mods, but one player could be against it and he makes trouble. As for the Exploding Ram Ball, I understand why it is that way, because once you use it. It's gone. Where as Recking ball as a normal ram continues to work. But I'm fine either way, as long as he marks his dashboard after he uses it.

    • @MechHeadStudios
      @MechHeadStudios  6 лет назад

Yep for tournaments I can totally agree with a model being somewhat painted. I don't think that's too much to ask of competitors and if you're entering a tournament 9 times out of 10 you've already started to paint.

i agree totally about whether your game pieces are painted or not, just dont be a snobby a-hole about it!! ive only ever encountered one person who did that in my time gaming...and he didnt last long where i gamed( no one wanted to game with him..so he stopped showing up). all of those cars from that set are nice, and not overly painted(really really easy to paint over or strip) i bought the duster thruster from wal-mart as well, did it very simple in green with muddy rusty paint, but i think it came out nice. also for the tanknator, the term to look for is wheel-cum-track, besides the schofield you mentioned, the Germans actually experimented with the idea a number of times before WWII, only production one they made was the sdkfz 254 artillery tractor, so you could totally leave it as is. for game purposes, id just have it count as tank tracks..takes up a build slot, but that thing only needs one gun slot ;) and i have a bone shaker obsession...am making an entire team of them( all different bone shakers, for the fun of it) but gotta love that skull and those pipes! hehe have good gaming!
