Returning to the gold standard is as close to a solution as it’s possible to get with current technology. Blockchain technology is very useful & might have a role to play, but Bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency that has value solely due to adoption & network effects ultimately is actually less valuable than fiat currency. Consider the “end use case” of gold, dollars, and Bitcoin. If you have a gold coin, you can wear it as an ornament or use it in a computer chip, etc. It’s an ontologically real object with uses. A dollar is an ontologically fake asset, but the government will accept it as payment for taxes, and if you don’t pay your taxes, they will forcibly imprison you. So, it isn’t an ontologically real asset, but it has an agreed-upon real world use. A Bitcoin is neither ontologically real nor has real-world use cases, and there is no “end use case” for it. It exists to be given to someone else in perpetuity. Greater fool theory all the way down.

So much of this content is captured in David Graeber's "Debt: The First 5000 Years" and it is so refreshing to hear someone else also tell the same narratives and stories around the origins of currency and debt. Far too often, we as a society take for granted these concepts as physical laws of nature. In reality, they are man man constructs and can be retooled or redesigned to better serve humans and society. Great content, will certainly be picking up your book!
