Update on Ace - I have gotten him involved in playing some of the games ruclips.net/user/postUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU and I can see a difference in his confidence already! My other dog played along and he became intrigued - now its a daily part of our routine - about 3 times a day we do the shell game and the muffin tin game. I am so grateful for coming upon your training techniques!
I have my first ever cocker coming this week. I found this video to be very helpful and far less complex than ones I have seen. I love that you use the 7f on the body and the same blade in reverse for the head. there's no other blades involved. so now im more excited then stressed about having my client coming in this week. thanks for the video.
Lots of very ignorant, judgmental comments on here. Hannah is an excellent groomer who handles the dogs really well. The reason this dog is so well behaved is because it is Hannah's own dog and has always been well handled. The dog feels safe because of Hannah's skill and confidence.
@@lesleygarratt8505 Sterilised you mean, Lola? My Lola is sterilised as well, but I’ve never shaved her. Her hair is still shining like polished dropping. Only her belly hair became wool-like. That’s where I shave. I also would say that you never should shave the chest hair. That’s what I’ve read about the cocker spaniels.
Yes - spayed. If your dog’s coat hasn’t changed after spaying you are very lucky as this is unusual. Hannah has done exactly the right thing for a spay coat and there is no reason why you cannot clip the chest.
Thank you for this video it definitely helped me understand where to start the pattern! Absolutely irritated with the non groomers on this comment list 😒 If you don't know how to properly groom or have ever been in a salon, then you have no room to talk. This video is for educational purposes. She did a wonderful job with this dog and as a groomer myself, this is a VERY well behaved pet.
wow such rude and judgemental people here. holy crud. this is a beautiful cut for a pet dog. this is also her own dog, which *is* extremely well behaved, because of how she works with it. geez, people. she did a very nice groom.
I can't believe how well behaved her dog is well she's grooming it from head to toe. It's so good not even budging when she's even grooming around the feet
my mother used the electric razor for everything but the nose since we think its unfair to cut the whiskers of the dog, but that also made him look like a sheep.. But thats just after the grooming and after a few weeks when the furr have grown back a bit it looks nice.. Also we cut the ears short since it can get very heavy and hurt
Can I please ask you to consider adopting a dog from a shelter that will be otherwise be put to death? Pure breds are the product of puppy mills and forced mating of dogs. It’s cruel and causes death. Plus rescued mutts don’t have the health issues that inbreeding contribute to, look up the history of the german shepherd and their hip issues
True it is, and I do not trust my own self to groom my girl bree, especially the ear part. Thankfully she is chill and calm while I brush her every night. She still gets uncomfortable on the ear area.
I have two black cockers and they are so amazing. Both are very well trained and are very sweet. The oldest just turned 10 on June 11th and the youngest will be 1 on June 23. The only thing is the youngest, remy, HATES loud noises and especially a razor. She has to be sedated when getting hair cuts but she is going to a new place this Thursday to get a hair cut and they are going to walk through very slowly and get her used too the tools, my other cocker, ruby , is the sweetest dog you'll ever meet, she has never caused any problems and if someone were to break in , she's attack them with kisses, sweetest dog ever.
If you still have this issue you can practice with an electric toothbrush. It runs quieter and you can work the humming and vibration by using the back end of the toothbrush. :) just work in extra slow slow motion, short sessions. At first just have fun and games near it as it is off and reward interacting with it like sniffing, then reward touching her with it while it is still off, then you can turn it on and off and reward and end the session. Next day same thing with it off, buzz on and off away from the dog then end the session. Soon enough you can on, off, reward and cuddles, then on, off again, reward and end it. Get a feel of what raises the stress level but quit before the dog goes into fear and just gradually blur the line between scary and not scary. If the dog refuses treats it is way too much too fast. It's better that it takes several weeks successfully than a few days with setbacks. If you play or take a walk right after then exercise gets stress and anxiety out of the body so it doesn't linger and it makes them forget if it was scary the day before a whole lot easier as well. My dog was trained from young and now he has at one point begged me to continue brushing him because he knew that if I brushed long enough he would deserve a treat reward and he was in a big treat mood! All grooming I do gets a big "salary" for letting me "buy their time" with something less fun. There are clippers these days that run cool and quiet with low vibration that is great for scared dogs! My oldest dog used to also be frightened by the machine but not anymore :)
Thanks very much for the video! We have a 6 month old english cocker and I'm gonna buy the same clippers to give her her 1st cut. I'm sure it won't look as good and she wont cooperate as much but thank you again for the inspiration! Cheers!
Can you shave the skirt completely off or would that ruin it? I'm thinking about purchasing a cocker spaniel puppy and I prefer to do the grooming at home!
great video and thanks for the tips on clipping the ears, for me c/a's would save a lot of time on the scissor work on legs, and to trim pad hair i use a 30, i am upset though reading previous comments, and feel the need to reply to them - such a calm dog on the grooming table is because her mum has spent the time to get her used to it from a pup so respect for hannah, you obviously missed the kind calming strokes throughout the groom! and the dogs i've groomed since pups are the same, spending the time to sensitise dogs who need grooming from puppyhood is so important, most cockers i groom are lovely but looney never keeping still for more than a minute and sing the whole time! !
Where are the numbers regarding the clipper do you have several metal clippers or the plastic accessories. I bought a new Wahl clipper and the number you mention must be a pro model??I think it ok going to the back first. Than the face right.
Such a lovely sweet dog, and love her name ❤ To save ya hands hun, wouldn't you be able to use a comb on ya clippers? Or would that not work, just trying to save ya hands....looks amazing 👏
What brand of blending and the black scissors are you using? I’m looking for a good brand that stay sharp. Also do you use a size 7 or 7F blade on the body?
Sarah V almost all cockers hang their head during grooming. its something you cannot train out of the ones that do it. we pro groomers know the struggle. try placing your hand on the base of the ociput (the back of the head) or tickle the bridge of their nose between the eyes, some dogs will lift their head to counteract this
Just watched this, Lola is virtually identical to my male cocker and I have him clipped the same, just thinking of clipping him myself as he needs doing and his regular clip is delayed due the covid19.
This dog is so well behaved. I have a male cocker that won't let me or groomers near his face or feet. My female cocker is pretty good, but not this good.
I have been clipping my (intact) cocker spaniel since he was young, he has a thick coat. I found this video helpful and might try to use the thinning scissors and allow him to have the "feathers" in summer, I usually clip him short when it is hot, and of course he is well admired for his colouring then. He loves to swim too, so keeping him short is best, but I do prefer the longer style on a cocker.
Lola is absolutely beautiful! Thank you for the step by step instructions. Since COVID we have had to start grooming our LaLa by ourselves , I wish she was as calm as Lola is. Cocker spaniels are the most beautiful breed in my opinion but also very high maintenance. Love the thinning shears what brand do you use?
I have used your vlog clipping mine and people say he is stunning his tri colours are so cute his mother was like Lola , Marco more white then black then tan thanks , take no notice of the peasants 👍❤️❤️❤️🙏
English cocker spaniels are meant to be trimmed not shaved on the back, that destroys their coat forever. Before anyone will start fighting back read and trust people who knows I have 2 cocker spaniels from best Italian FCI kennel.
Hi Robert, the reason it is more suitable is because spayed/neutered dogs' coats change and become too soft and mean that stripping can become difficult.
Wow the amount of people that comments before watching the entire video. If you would listen you would get why this dog is clipped and not hand stripped.
what an absolutely regal looking cocker this is we had 3 litters of blond ones we kept a deaughter mom was named taffy apple wiggle bum-daughter snuffy

What a well behaved dog. I bet the dog feels great when she is done.
I own a cocker spaniel typically they are quite good when having a fur cut

Shaving a cocker spaniel?

Yes this dog has been neutered so can’t be handstripped. If you knew anything about neutered spaniel coats you wouldn’t make this comment 🤷🏼♀️

If you want to do the pattern then you only clip part of the ears, chin and neck. Then you hand strip pr brush the rest you absolutley do not clip
Super helpful and easy to follow Hannah. Lola is super cute and so chilled.

This should probably state that it is an English Cocker Spaniel which receives a different clip than the American Cocker Spaniel.
If people don't know the difference between both reeds they should probably not be grooming.at all.
I am only 11 but when I am 18 and I live alone I am getting a cocker spaniel
Happy 16th birthday

do you take all the whiskers off of the face?
So annoying when owners come onto videos for professional groomers and start preaching. People have no idea how hard our job really is.

Why didn’t you show the final cut

and it is a common practice to shave cockers down, a lot of owners aren't in to cocker cuts and the maintenance. They just get them shaved down.....

This is so painful to watch, shawing cockers coat is such a huge huge mistake always!
Lola is spayed. spayed cockers can be clipped because their coat will change due hormonal changes anyway.
Beautiful Lola. Great job!
Hi what type of clippers do u use
How well behaved is he... shows he trusts his owner. 😚
Great work!Spaniel black and tan is the most beautiful!
Why did you cut the whiskers off? That was a big extreme. Lazy if you ask me, could've just used scissors for that part.
Really enjoyed this groomer and gave me a novice so many tips
Do all cocker spaniels need to be trimmed or stripped? or does it just depend on the coat of the individual dogs coat? Does it continue to grow?
Most show dogs are stripped and pets are trimmed
The field cocker doesnt really but the English and American need frequent grooms, yes. :)

why is this more suitable when a dog has been spayed/neutered ??
Hi Robert, the reason it is more suitable is because spayed/neutered dogs' coats change and become too soft and mean that stripping can become difficult.
so would using a coat king be ok on a neutered show cocker?
Robert Feather iik
