    My channel (not this account) went from 285 subs to almost 1,100 in the last month. And it's all because i stopped worry about the analytics and growth and instead made something really difficult I was passionate about and it was well received. Instead of focusing on the channel's growth, I focused on my own growth in editing, mixing, thumbnails, and ideas. Still so much to learn. So excited to get that first paycheck.

    Some of us are not blaming the algorithm because it's cathartic, but because it's true, and damaging our channel. It's literally impossible to build community when YT refuses to put your content in front of it. Also, how on earth can we compete with large channels when YT would rather post unrelated content in our feeds we have no interest in, rather than what we want to watch? Seriously, I want answers to this. YT spends more time filling my home page, and 'up next' suggestions with content I have absolutely no interest in, so if these happen to be new channels it's damaging for them too. YT is trying so desperately to ram them in my eyeballs that I'm adding a huge chunk to their impressions, yet I'm never going to watch. YT is also doing this with my content. Just place it in front of people likely to watch it, and stop damaging all of us. If people have a hard time understanding this: Someone can get millions of impressions on a short, WTH an I only getting a few hundred/thousand in my niches that contains million of people? Let alone the fact YT keeps insisting on putting in front of those not in my niche. Come on, you literally have billions to choose from, so don't talking to me about real-estate like I have no idea what it is.

  • @MindTwistGR
    @MindTwistGR 19 дней назад +19

    Something that I think needs to be changed on RUclips's part is the fact that if you have a channel and want to upload both long and short videos, the channel is doomed because if the majority of your subscribers subscribed to the channel because of the short videos, the first test of any long video will fail because it will be shown to them first (so the video will not be promoted further), whereas if the majority of your subscribers subscribed to the channel because of the long videos, the first test of a short video will fail because it will be shown to them first (so the video won't be promoted further because your subscribers didn't watch it). RUclips should treat each video (regardless of type) as a new video and promote it to an audience other than the channel's subscribers so it can be tested further (or at least subscribers aren't part of the first test). Why should each channel have ONE topic? I don't understand this "single theme" pattern that is generally promoted on the internet. Why can't I feature anything on my channel? From cooking to gaming. Where is the harm? I think this is an absurd policy - tactic on the part of RUclips. Since it provides the ability to upload both short and long videos, the way it manages each type of video should not pose a risk of mutual annihilation, and indeed from within your own audience. I have a puzzle channel. I upload both short and long videos. The long videos are not seen by subscribers who signed up because of the short videos, ALTHOUGH the long videos are the solutions to the puzzles presented in the short videos. For this reason, I want to upload long videos and short videos on a related topic (independently of each other. The long ones are aimed at viewers who want to see long and the short ones at viewers who see close.), without being directly related between them to attract viewers of both long and short videos. I can not. One or the other audience (whichever is more) will condemn (under the current operating conditions of RUclips) one or the other type of video.

      @@asmrgamingOz Now that I think about it better... why not do a livestream with the answers to the riddles? Instead of spending 2 days making the answer video (which no one sees) why not livestream my answers and thoughts which OBVIOUSLY creates a stronger relationship between me and my audience (which is very small for now, of course); Now you've given me a good idea I think, I hadn't thought of that. But I'm wondering, will the subscribers who subscribed to my channel because of the short videos see my livestreaming? Have you tried? Does it resonate with a wide audience?

    The main problem with youtube growth tips is, that outside of some generic "one-size-fits-all" advice, like: Make sure your camera is on and say stuff into the microphone. Without acknowledging that LUCK still plays a far more integral role in the process, the micro youtuber will forever be stuck field testing video thumbnails and getting ai to come up with ideas, until their discouragement over the whole thing causes them to eventually rage quit.
    What works for one youtuber will more than likely NEVER work exactly the same for another, in fact, it's almost a foregone conclusion. Certain niches will always have certain advantages and disadvantages over others, but MrBeast's success can't be replicated by anyone (there are some content creators who've been on this platform since 2006 who still haven't earned a silver play button) so yeah, a little honesty can be every bit as helpful as a coach saying "don't quit your day job".

      First off, I hate shorts. And you can’t use the same tips that you’d use for long form with shorts.

      Shorts are a waste of time in my opinion. You’ll never make any money from them.

    • @jamieredgate602
      @jamieredgate602 19 дней назад +1

      I wouldn’t say it’s complete luck, but luck definitely plays a part.
      You still need to get the basics right and make videos that people want to watch.
      And no, you can’t copy Mr Beast because those techniques don’t work any more.
      Remember he started in what…2015 🤔. If you had also started in 2015, and copied his vibe and ideas, you might also be as big as he is now.
      But this is 2024, and as a new RUclips channel, that doesn’t work anymore.

One is gaming in general (this one) and the other is tech (OctagonalSoftware). I do gaming and some gaming news here, and I do development, design, and tech news on the second (not much news there yet). That one has grown very quickly compared to this channel. I think this one may be done. I’ve had it for 10 years but didn’t do anything for a long time and haven’t had good video ideas for months now.

    4:34 respectfully, I think the community posts on this channel subtly encourage this idea. Well, at least the folks in the comment section do.
    “How many subscribers did you get last week?”
    “I got 1,000!”
    “I got 23,000!”
    Those kinds of questions give off the idea that it’s super easy to have a successful RUclips channel. Just upload, and watch the views and subs roll in.
    That’s not everybody’s experience and it’s a bit discouraging for those that see little to no traction.

      @@SuitedSkaterLion that’s very true. I’m just saying that their community posts make this RUclips thing seem like a cakewalk. It’s not.
      I’ve had my channel for a month or so (not this one I’m commenting from) and no subs, my mom has given me most of the 11 views I got lol, and no likes or comments. It’s super slow going.
      However, if you look at the comments under their community post, the post will be something like “how many views did you get last night?” And the responses are “I just started last night and I have 10k views and 300 subs!” Or “I have 40,000k subs overnight and 100k views!”.
      I’m exaggerating, of course. I’m just saying that there’s a bit of a contradiction in what he’s saying and what the actual channel is doing.

    Without a doubt the algorithm has to rank channels. It would be inefficient otherwise if the algorithm had to test all videos equally by running them out to a few hundred impressions, then analyzing the data/metrics. And then repeating this to a larger and larger audience. Some channels have a "green light" to immediately be given 100 of 1000s of impressions, even millions when a new video is uploaded. Oh well, I'll keep crawling until I can run. I'm having fun.

I figure slow but steady and solid growth will serve me better in the long run although I would like to start growing a bit moire rapidly. I do quick 3-5 minute spoiler free "reviews" done within a 2 hour refund time limit window, and also spotlight game demos for upcoming games. My pivot point was always a goal. Yes I love fighting games. But I also love JRPGs and platformers. If you look at the consumer habits of late 90s to early 00s video games, that was their primary diet growing up. So there's a TON of niche overlap. Especially since most of these games are Japanese centric. So when I get bigger, I could in theory start covering Japanese stuff in general. Once I started looking at it as main niche, secondary niche, tertiary niche, and realized I am super counter culture and contrarian in a lot of ways, that's when my channel started to grow.

    RUclips has ample server space to help new creators get noticed. A simple addition like a "New Creators You May Like" link or graphic on the homepage could greatly enhance visibility for new creators and boost their chances of being favored by the algorithm. This approach would provide them with much-needed exposure and opportunities for growth.

    3:03 I've been trying to explain this for years. I have seen big channels with 100k subs just die because they created the same old content and it got boring. NEVER BORE YOUR AUDIENCE! The algorithm alone isn't the key, it's just one piece of it. If you play FPS games then play other FPS games. If you content is based on telling stories do that but in different ways. Just don't pivot too far too fast. But I have been saying for years if you start out by training your audience to accept other content you post then sky is the limit. But again you still need a theme it can't be random. The best thing you can do is to get your audience to watch you for you. Meaning they aren't coming for the gameplay but for you instead. That is a powerful position to be in. An example of pivoting too far is something like lets say you play FPS games and then all of a sudden you decide to start posting poker content or gambling content. That is pivoting way too far too fast. Maybe not the best idea.

    What I notice while researching what to post for my shorts page is that majority of small channels are getting ~ 400 views even on very poorly edited/ non informative or entertaining shorts. I have so many shorts that I’ve seen the quality compared to these and mine is better, yet many of mine are still stuck in 400ish territory. I've seen when there's a bus full of people so youtube suggests a lot, if there's just a street it suggests a little.
