Another lovely reminder that I haven't been out in the canoe for way too long!

It was watching a previous video of mine that made me realize this too, before this trip. So it had to be done, even with the River Nene floods about. I might even head out this weekend too.

Very nice! I came within a hairs breadth of paddle yesterday myself. You've made me wish I'd ignored the domestic chores I ended up doing.
Nice to see a Wren too, I'm sure they must use the force when flying through hedges, they have such a great scientific name too!
    Thanks for making me jealous.

Thanks Al! Ah, well the weekend is fast approaching, maybe get out paddling then...I might get out again! Yeah it was nice to see that wren, and agreed, a good scientific name! hah.

A superb vid Donny, I loved it. Photography is excellent. I love the reflection shots of the trees. Beautiful. I think you should now do a longer film, on the river, and narrate it. A nene wildlife, and wild camping vid. I am sure your skills as a photographer would produce an excellent film. The bbc will be chasing you for it!
    Keep on paddling!

Nice video. The nene is pronounced Neen from Thrapston downstream and NEN upstream of Thrapston.
Very important if you don't want to upset the locals 😁

I've recently moved house from Northampton to Peterborough, so I've had to adopt the Neeen pronunciation haha

OutdoorLifeOfBrian It's my own pride and joy that canoe. It's an Old Town Charles River 163 RX. My 2nd open canoe...5th including kayaks. Love to be out on the water!

I hear you bro! It's a growing passion in me, I wanna get one at some point, it's a shame the laws are so strict in the country as I wanna paddle and camp where I like :(

Cheers Glenn. I feel like if I was paddling the boat solo with less kit, I might have tackled it, but with two of us and all the bags on board, it feels heavy and slow to react, so was certainly best to go around that fast flow! Cheers mate...Donny.

As usual an inspiring video letting everyone know the river is just waiting for us, but I'm a chicken cos I keep looking at Alwalton lock and saying no way with the amount of water coming down. I hope to see you later in the year if you get down as far as Orton Mere!

Hi Donnie... You must have had some serious flooding. That river is really moving.. I don't blame you I would have pulled my canoe out too. And gone around.the Last thing you don't want to do is have the canoe capsize and get wet in the middle of winter. Do you ever get any icing on the river?

    • @DonnyOutdoors
      @DonnyOutdoors  11 лет назад

Yeah man, further up river that day was some flooding where the river had overflowed. A lot of water about at the minute here. We do get some ice on the rivers...this winter has actually been mild so far! We've had no snow where I live, and barely any ice! Some winters, ice gathers near the locks (as this river is canalized), where the water slows. We've had to hack through ice with our paddles before. The faster flowing backwaters around locks are a better option in subzero temperatures. Cheers Bob...Donny.

Hi Donny, Tom here...Another great video mate. I feel really relaxed and chilled when I watch them, so much so I have just bought a little Galaxy Cruz sit on Kayak. I live in Stilton just outside Peterborough so I know Ferry Meadows, Fotheringhay, Wadenhoe etc. Can you advise me please on any permits or insurance that I will need to paddle on the rivers around Peterborough / East Anglia. Many thanks mate, keep up the vids.

    • @DonnyOutdoors

Last time I bought a license it was a website called Canoe England, but it appeared its changed to www.britishcanoeing.org.uk where you can get your membership which contains water license and insurance a other bits.
