  • My visit to Davidstow this evening starling murmuration spotting gave me that “Thank you Lord!” moment when I had a VERY close encounter with the birds! Frozen to the ground, despite being tempted to dive for cover (there was of course none!), as I was confronted by a solid black wall of starlings heading directly for me from the horizon, skimming the moorland grass . . . the leading birds split around me as the full murmuration raced past. I had almost given up on seeing a decent murmuration, and not much dancing in the sky, but this adrenaline rush topped all expectations!

Amazing capture of this beautiful event. We see a lot in Norfolk, UK and it just makes you stop in awe. Such a privilege to be able to see because they have gone from a lot of areas in the UK.

Beautiful murmurations! I keep hoping to see that in person someday. I live in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, USA. I drive in the fall, sometimes for hours, hoping to come across something like this.
Thank you so much for sharing. I would be thanking God also if I saw that! I totally understand.

You are wise to thank the Lord, for it is indeed He Who created all that was ever made!
His ways are Higher than our ways! We'll never comprehend Him, but, we can apprehend Him, as you did so naturally! May His presence give you peace, joy and comfort! Shalom! 💜🕊💜✡️✝️💜🕊💜

We used to have flocks of starlings in the late 1960s through and into the 1980s similar to this in south western Canada east of Vancouver farming areas.
For us an invasive bird species.
My lord I can’t tell how many I shot with .22 and 12 gauge shotgun in my youth. At the time they did devastating damage to crops. The flocks today are much smaller due to mine and others shooting skills 😊
    Great memories!

I remember my first European Starling murmuration. It was on, or about 1960. I was a young teenager at the time. I recall watching the evening news on TV with my Dad. It showed an Eastern Airlines passenger plane taking off from the airport in Boston. A Starling Murmuration flew into the airplane's flight path stalling both engines. The plane promptly went down and crashed. 62 people died. I'll never forget it as long as I live. True story. What a heavy price to pay for invasive beauty. Daniel

Really it's man who invaded the skies, not the birds which don't understand why this thing would fly into them and most wouldn't have seen it only heard the strange noise

    Oh that's so Beautiful!!!
But, expending so much energy creating such inspiring beauty, makes me wonder, how do they find enough to eat??? There's thousands of graceful, expertly coordinated Starlings that must certainly need to fuel up for such grand performances!
I pray they all get enough to fuel their feathers! I love them!
Thank you, Peter, for the graceful music, and for letting us also hear the natural sounds of thousands of fast-moving wings! Quite breathtaking! Thank you and Shalom! 💜🕊💜🎀💖🎀💜🕊💜

We have starlings in Australia but they seem to inhabit country areas rather than cities like sparrows, magpies, crows, willy wagtails etc. It's too far to go searching for them on the off chance of spotting a small flock. I saw them when I was a young boy flying around at sunset (the birds, not me) but I don't recall seeing any flying patterns. I don't know if these were native birds.

Haha! 😂 Very funny....yes, indeed. I've never seen such a sight as those Starlings in murmurations either. I'm glad for YT bringing such miracles right to my screen. It's better than nothing! ☺️
