- We travelled to Iran at the beginning of September 2022 before protests and civil unrest began in Tehran on 16 September 2022 following to the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini. Our thoughts are with the people of Iran during this time and we feel incredibly thankful to have visited and experienced the amazing hospitality and culture of Iran as New Zealanders.
So THIS IS IRAN! And THIS is the beautiful city of Shiraz.
It's only our second day out in Iran and so far we are learning a lot about the beautiful and very historic city of Shiraz.
As a New Zealand family travelling in Iran we were warmly welcomed and hosted by people we met during our travels in Iran.

You've got to try a dish called 'ash'. It's an Iranian noodle soup dish.

It's not really a soup, it's more like a porridge and it comes with many varieties. It's so important in Iranian cuisine, that the word for kitchen in Persian is called "Ashpazkhaneh", meaning the room where Ash is cooked. (Ash = name of the food. The word itself means 'a mixture of things', paz = cooking, khaneh = house but in this case it means room, because in the old times kitchen was separated and outside of the actual house, to prevent the smell of wood fire reaching inside the house.)
Have you visited the north of Iran ,western and eastern sides?
Not this time. We had an incredible time and feel very lucky for all the amazing places we visited and people we met 😊
