For many years I have been wondering if I would ever be able to hear the compilation again of Herb Alperts S.R.O. album. I had the vinyl version over 30 years ago. And to think Utube was the place to hear it 30 years later. Keep it up Utube....Bravo!

A few songs on SRO had very strong jazz sound, most notably "Flamingo", so you could tell that was the direction HA really wanted to move in. And speaking of New Orleans, my favourite song on that album "The Wall Street Rag" definitely had a very prominent Dixieland jazz feel. Perhaps that's why SRO was my favourite of their albums.

@utd1981 True. Some bands are/were really more studio bands than live(including The Beatles)

What is funny is at 1:27 Herb puts his trumpet down and start singing. However, you still hear a trumpet playing in the back ground and it isn't Herb or the other trumpet player. It was all faked from start to finish. So talented the Herb and the TJB were that they had to fake it? I still love their music but also know that many fans were duped at their concerts probably at some point.

There is a second trumpet player besides Herb Alpert so what you'd hear was just that when he did vocals.

Trust me, the reason that so many acts just mimed their performance to recordings in those days had a lot more to do with TV production considerations than what was in the musicians' interest. I am a lifelong musician and I will tell you that the musicians would always rather play it live. But it was rarely their call, especially back then. I saw Herb live with these same six musicians in 1968 and they were terrific. There were VERY few shows in those days when a band would get the opportunity to play live to the studio audience. Ed Sullivan and Johnny Carson are the only ones I can think of.
