Guitarist from Nospūn here. Thank you so much for taking the time to listen to our album! I’ve been following your channel for a bit now and i must say, this is pretty cool! Cheers!
Hi James, truly, you’ve created something very special. I’d love to have the chance to chat to you about it sometime on the channel! Amazing music, man!
One of the BEST pieces of music I´ve ever heard. 7 Years in the making, a true passion project indeed! As a Haken DIE-HARD Fan, this is simply fantastic! The vinyl issue will come this year, I will most certainly order my shelf a copy of this beauty! Thanks for covering it, Jim! :D
Jim , loved your reaction and I knew you would love this record. This album sucks you in and does not let up or disappoint. A concept album and great one! For sure my favorite album this year! Cannot wait for you to react to the rest! appreciate you Jim!🤟🏻
This is also my album of the year so far. I have listened to it almost every day since I first heard it and still not bored with it. Just a fantastic piece of music
Loved this! Thanks for the introduction, Jim. I'd like to return the favor and recommend an incredible ensemble of musicians by the name of Punch Brothers. Completely different than most things on your channel, but amazing nonetheless. All of their albums are worth diving into, but The Phosphorescent Blues is a mighty worthy listen.
I discovered this band by accident last month, and was directed to their website and bought the digital download, its a breath of fresh air with a great mixture of styles and key changes. The Death of Simpson is a particular highlight, I agree with you Jim I didn't know if was restarting at the beginning, but then it just grows and dare I say there is a hint of Queensryche in there too. Masterpiece!
Hey Jim, I was looking forward to seeing your reaction to this album, knowing I enjoy elements in prog that you also enjoy. One of my recent discoveries. It is so good. At first I didn't get fully into it, as it is complex but after I listened again - it is a top album! We are in prog heaven! Definitely one of the best this year! Along with Haken, Voyager...
This album is rocking my world lately. Ιf you like this, and it seems like you do, I IMPLORE you to listen to the album “Book II: Where Stories Come From” by the band Others by No One. Art in its purest form. Drawing influences from a plethora of wildly differing music, but amongst others Devin Townsend, Haken and Native Construct.
Haken, Opeth, Dream Theatre....and as you say Devin too...another hearts on sleeve band for sure. What with Baroness and their Thin Lizzy meets Tool meets Mastadon lovin and Riversides fantastic Aha-athon i reckon that the best records i have heard this year sum up the current zeitgeist.... Hearts on sleeves is the way to go everybody as long as you can pull it off!
Hi Jim, Never heard of them either as far as I can remember 👴🏼 Nice soft intro with nice sounding vocals. Indeed, very Haken like. They switch music styles faster than Dream Theater. Sounds great though although I wouldn’t mind staying in one style a bit longer. I must say, listening to this costs me a lot of energy. I wouldn’t be able to hear the album in one go and maybe not even one side.
Wow. I quite enjoyed that. For :me,: it would work better with just the vocal tracks; the instrumental bridges in those tracks has enough hard passages to get the vibe across. The full instrumental, such as the overture, got to be a bit much. But I enjoyed most of what we heard so far. And, that opening was *gorgeous* and is what convinced me to stay so far and listen.
If you want lots and lots of energy - very good! But there's 101 bands doing that (tho not many at this excellent level). Initially appealing, but in truth I'd like to hear more melody and varied pacing...
They're skilled musicians, but I've never been a fan of all those rapid fire quick-cut transitions. Parts of it sound great, but I find myself wishing they'd settle into a groove and play. Leaves me cold overall.
F I R S T I M P R E S S I O N S OF N O S P U N PART 1 -3 This is a very good record // This is a pretty good record It has great compositions, great ideas, great musicians // It's the "curse" of the music lover, who knows so much music and knows very much prog/progmetal It is very creative, very impressive, good singer // especially of newer bands of which many are unknown as Nospun. I don't know too much Devin Townsend It definitely makes you want to listen to it several times // but I hear much Dream Theater throughout the album, also Haken, a bit Leprous and the guitar often sounds // like Prospekt of my last Mixtape (especially if you know the whole album). Somebody else mentioned the // german band Long Distance Calling, but I also hear bits and pieces of Thoughts Factory, Relocator and // many others. It's hard to concentrate on the music without thinking all the time "where have I heard this // before 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘 // 🤘🤘🤘🤘 It's surely very impressive but needs more than one listen and it also has to stand the test of listening to the whole album in one piece, where many albums fail, because you get exausted or bored after about 50 minutes. So I will find out in the near future. If it can be my album of the year ? the competition this year is harder than last year, because I'm still waiting for my personal "aa-haa - experience", which I have had last year with Von Hertzen Brothers' Red Alert In The Blue Forest. We'll see ... there are more than 3 months left ... who knows what else is coming ...😆
Hey Rudi. We have corresponded before on Nick and Alexia’s channel. The Von Hertzen bro’s was for sure my album of the year last year. Glad you are like this one. It took me by surprise a couple months ago. Wanted to share with Jim and get this band some exposure! 🤟🏻
Is no-one going to mention the d word here? (You know, the one that rhymes with bent) This sounds like they put Devin Townsend and Dream Theater in a blender then forced them to make a new Periphery album...but it's not that good. Then again, I'm not a great d word fan so what do I know?
Good lord, just call it Djent. I agree that constant Djent grinds on my ears and I do get fatigued listening to it, but this album breathes very well with calm sections and punches us in the gut at other sections. It's very well paced for a debut album.
Jim, loved your reaction and I knew that you would fall in love with record! This album sucks you in and does not let up! Such an impressive debut! A concept album and a great one! Cannot wait to see you react to the rest! I appreciate you Jim!🤟🏻
Oh, dear… And here I was excited to give this a listen from all of the other comments. But if it’s djent-y… Well, I’ll give Jim’s listen a watch and see how far I make it.
I agree with Arrow2theACL that too much djent is, well, too much! I think the blend of other styles is useful in making the djenty bits stand out as dynamic shifts. And no growling or harsh vocals either!
Jim, everybody is marveling at this new band/album, including me. To answer your great question about debuts being outstanding, my favorite (and also that of Steven Wilson) was Building An Empire by French band (mostly 1 guy named Nicolas Chapel) Demians. This was an amazing album that made me feel like you described with Opus.

I’d love to!
I love the music community. Totally cool. Keep it going guys.
James how can I purchase the physical copy of your amazing debut?
@@synen Thank you! CD’s are about ready to be made. We’re gonna do a kickstarter for vinyl, so once we figure that out those will come too.
These guys have been chasing the dream hard since they were teenagers. They have earned the praise. Go Guys!

Yeah... 7 years doesn't surprise me. Where can they go from here though?
Album of the year! 🤘🏻
Agree with you!
So far my album of the year its incredible. So happy you're giving it a listen

2nd. They are already signed to attend ProgPower 2024.
This album must be one of the best things I have heard in a long, long time. Not one duff track to be found. This band deserve to be huge!🤘🤘🤘🤘
Yes, yes they do!
Thank you Jim, this album is brilliant. My first listen as well.
This is an debut album as well. Well paced, catchy choruses, quirkiness. I expect big things from this band.
Downloaded this on tidal as soon as i heard track #2....awesome debut album !!!!
This album is great. This, along with Others by No One, and Toehider's latest 12 EPs have been repeating on loop for hours everyday.
The hilarious thing is I just finished listening to the album then saw your video.... fuck it another listen it is!😅
And why not?

Great reaction, thank you!
"Opus" is nbelievably good album!!! Nospun first album....! I can not believe!
Agreed… been listening since a couple of weeks and the album keeps surprising me:)
I love your reactions! Thanks for introducing me to Nospūn!

Death of Simpson is my favorite on the album.
Same for me at the moment.
This is the reason I subscribe to this channel Jim. brilliant album it's fantastic from start to finish ❤....

Album of the year for me, and it isn’t close
I get (early) Dream Theater vibes mixed with Ghost Ship Octavius. Great musicianship, great vocals, great production!
12:12 reminds me of Voices by DT 😍

There is no spoon....
Now there is....
Lol 🥄👍🤪
Bosh!

Well, maybe the three video split is the perfect ratio for you!
I think you would love an album called The Signal Heard Throughout Space by Parius
phénoménal
Wow.
I quite enjoyed that.

I hope that you find the rest of the album as enjoyable - there is no harsh vocals/growling so that's in it's favour!
The band name is pronouce Nospoon... the band has said its a Matrix reference to the line.. "there is no spoon"
Ohhhhhh.... get it!

Sorry to hear that, skip the next couple of vids then, sorry Craig!
@@JimNewstead No worries, they can't all connect! 🙂
