Seasons 1-3 were prime, Season 4 would have probably been good but they went down the Glee path and didn't put enough focus on either the old members or the new members. Season 5 was a great reset, and having the OG members in teaching positions was really really nice, as it focused on Emily and Michelle's maturing workplace relationship and focused on the newbies.
britt's analysis of the character's actions and inner thoughts are crazy accurate yet i would never realize that about any of them lol, if someone were to write a tns book she'd definitely need to write the sparknotes analysis page of it
I actually 100% agree with he whole inner character thoughts part , especially about Michelle because I didn't actually see her as that innocent in the series ahahaha she definitely hat that manipulative nature about her.
I can genuinely say, as a child, after I realised TNS wasn’t a reality show, I was so convinced that Brit was the most experienced actor. (I say this because I’m still so surprised that you had next to no experience!!) The choices or natural direction she took Riley in felt so cozy and correct. And I can say confidently, she was one of the main reasons I was so intrigued, when it aired for the first time in the UK, and why I’m still here, loving it to this day. And seeing the progression in your acting was such an honour to watch Brit!! It was tricky trying to see progress in dancing, because they would (in pretty sure) hide talents and/or skills so it could be used in a story line, but I used to literally have daydreams about your pointe solo with: when the war is over. And I’m not even a dancer. I know you don’t appreciate yourself the way you KNOW you deserve Brit, but I wanna let you know: you make a lot of people happy. Thank you.
The VALIDATION I feel that we are now acknowledging how manipulative Michelle is and the way people bend for her over the course of the show is making 11 year old me very happy lol. Like during season 1 everyone saw a really sweet girl ( which I get) but she also took Emily’s dance captaincy ( by conspiring with her sister) ,then straight up told Emily she was a back row dancer ( ouch very Emily like thing to say Michelle…..), then asked her to be co dance captain ( like um you just turned the whole studio against her to be dance captain… y’all could’ve just talked in the first place?) , then took her boyfriend which was confirmed minutes before their final regionals dance ( thanks eldon) which opens with a romantic Michelle and eldon duet , then had the nerve to ask her “are we cool” UM NO! In Emily’s mind this random girl literally walked off the street, disrupted the order of how a troupe is formed ( in season 1 I think they established that you come up from b- troupe to get to a), and essentially took over her life in what seems like the span of a month lmao. Did it justify Emily being mean to everyone uh hell no, but Michelle had her faults as well. Ok rant over lol
I think part of why I loved Riley so much (especially in the beginning) was cause I thought she reminded me a lot of Hermione Granger lmao. Like goody two-shoes who fights for what's right - or what she thinks is the right thing - and will do anything for the cause which is admirable but also severely flawed and I LOVE that. (also helps that Brit lowkey looks like Emma watson)
Honestly, Jiley of season 1 was so cute. However, in my opinion, there's times where it seems that James is more invested in the relationship than Riley ( in season 3 and 4 ). I think it would definitely be interesting to see how you react to season 4 and to get your pov on adult Riley/Jiley :)

On the peach grape juice thing, the restaraunt could have used white grape juice. It's not as common as purple grape juice but it's a thing and it would likely go better with peach. I was just guessing on that but I just looked it up, and yeah, when people make peach grape juice, they always use white grape and the overall color comes out to be orange.

Mostly because Michelle (probably unintentionally) kept wanting everything that was Emily's. I understand the captaincy was what was for the best.. But the fact she was trying to pursue Eldon by making a duet w him while saying in talking heads, "maybe this will make him like me, like how I like him" EVEN THOUGH she knows full well he's dating Emily. Its just all kinda f*cked up. Same with Hunter in season 2. She didn't want him back TILL she saw Emily getting close with him. And gets mad at Emily for kissing Hunter and 'not respecting her past relationship'... Even tho Michelle did WAY worse with stealing Eldon. Emily didn't try to steal anyone who was dating someone already. She developed feelings for a guy who was single and she had no reason to let Michelle's past in another city, be an affecting factor her pursuing Hunter. Especially since Michelle did much worse intentionally. *its also the reason i hate summer and love richelle. Its literally just michelle all over again* Anyways rant over. Sorry for that lol.

Heyy Brittt!!! Soooo I think its kinda necessary that in a competitive environment, being peers you guys take the charge depending on your own instincts of loss and accomplishment! To see most of it being trashed or jeopardized because of emily's ego and mean behavior when you have a better option to stand against it...of course the whole "going behind emily's back" makes complete sense! The storytelling for first three seasons is totally relatable, those are my favorite seasons of TNS of all time!

I know right? I thought the same thing lol. That’s part of why I think so many people thought this was a reality show. The lack of set dialogue and the fact that so much of it was improv made it feel very natural. It was basically just a bunch of teenagers bantering about a specific prompt. This scene here is a perfect example of that because the boys are acting their age and doing it in such a normal way that resembles real life. That is very hard to do when the scene is written by a middle aged man, so I love the unscriptedness of the whole thing. The interactions were more realistic that way.

Although in some cases the scenes may have been slow and repetitive it always had a unique charm that made you feel like you were watching conversations between real people. After all the show was for kids and I think the way it was filmed and scripted made it easily understandable. Although in a way I do think it was great how the show kind of grew with its audience.

I agree with the adult voice. Like so much of the first season was about almost conforming to a group or like internal conflict of a team. And like with Eldon we got that dorky rep- and I guess west was the “weird one” except he was a funny weird. But like there wasn’t really anything that said that it’s ok to be different to kids or even an adult to really be a mediator. The thing about like dance and school and any kind of group of Teenagers is human nature takes over except it’s fuelled by hormones- and you’ve got this group who work out their own hierarchy. Like in the show you have the e-girls at the top almost. The idea of giving that much power to one teenager- just seems dangerous to me as someone who is 16, and like it’s just not a good idea. Like teenagers will already make their own hierarchy and people like Emily are normally at the top- like they don’t need dance captain as well. Also Michelle’s character like she is also a “mean girl” in a way. It’s like Janice vs Regina from mean girls. Like Janice is also a mean girl yet framed as a the heroine or victim. Michelle is just as bad as Emily in many different ways, I feel like so much of Emily is insecurity. Michelle is a follow the crowd type person- or is more attuned to the group and what the group wants even if it means going against an individual.

as a child, michelle was one of my favourites. as im recently rewatching the series, michelle is moving down on my list of faves because i am older and noticing michelle’s actions and hypocrisy. she has always had this kinda oblivious look to her, throughout the entire series itself. it especially shows in s1 and s5. but behind it all, she’s a real hypocrite and emily was kinda right about her. thank god vic is not the same as her tbh.
I actually agree about Jiley bc they always had a problem, in season 2 James cheated, season 3 there was that whole problem with Ella and I don’t even know, and then season 4 Riley cheated. Like they were never happy. Yes they always get back together in the end but 99% of the seasons they’re fighting/have a problem

Britt, I love your videos, they make my day! I do agree that if you are looking at Riley and James objectively that it seems like they don't have much in common and wouldn't be compatible. But I believe they have what is called the "X-factor", which is something that keeps a couple together despite their differences. Perhaps their X-factor is dance, perhaps it is something else, but that is what keeps them together and makes their relationship work and what keeps it interesting for the viewers. I think that their relationship is a little underdeveloped in season 1, but I think as time goes on, you see them grow together and their relationship gets better:)

Although in some cases the scenes may have been slow and repetitive it always had a unique charm that made you feel like you were watching conversations between real people. After all the show was for kids and I think the way it was filmed and scripted made it easily understandable. Although in a way I do think it was great how the show kind of grew with its audience.

I agree with the adult voice. Like so much of the first season was about almost conforming to a group or like internal conflict of a team. And like with Eldon we got that dorky rep- and I guess west was the “weird one” except he was a funny weird. But like there wasn’t really anything that said that it’s ok to be different to kids or even an adult to really be a mediator. The thing about like dance and school and any kind of group of Teenagers is human nature takes over except it’s fuelled by hormones- and you’ve got this group who work out their own hierarchy. Like in the show you have the e-girls at the top almost. The idea of giving that much power to one teenager- just seems dangerous to me as someone who is 16, and like it’s just not a good idea. Like teenagers will already make their own hierarchy and people like Emily are normally at the top- like they don’t need dance captain as well.
Also Michelle’s character like she is also a “mean girl” in a way. It’s like Janice vs Regina from mean girls. Like Janice is also a mean girl yet framed as a the heroine or victim. Michelle is just as bad as Emily in many different ways, I feel like so much of Emily is insecurity. Michelle is a follow the crowd type person- or is more attuned to the group and what the group wants even if it means going against an individual.
This video premieres at 2 am in Australia 🇦🇺. 2 things I asked myself when I first saw this……..
1. Did I set an alarm for it, yes.
2. Are my parents gonna be mad at me for waking up so early to just watch a RUclips video, most likely yes.

as a child, michelle was one of my favourites. as im recently rewatching the series, michelle is moving down on my list of faves because i am older and noticing michelle’s actions and hypocrisy. she has always had this kinda oblivious look to her, throughout the entire series itself. it especially shows in s1 and s5. but behind it all, she’s a real hypocrite and emily was kinda right about her. thank god vic is not the same as her tbh.

I actually agree about Jiley bc they always had a problem, in season 2 James cheated, season 3 there was that whole problem with Ella and I don’t even know, and then season 4 Riley cheated. Like they were never happy. Yes they always get back together in the end but 99% of the seasons they’re fighting/have a problem

I guess you could see characters the way you want to see them. Riley manipulates James and tries to make him into the boy she wants, is the worst studio head, and bails on her Internationals routine because her feelings were "hurt". And wasn't she the one that convinced Michelle to start the secret routine?

I do agree that if you are looking at Riley and James objectively that it seems like they don't have much in common and wouldn't be compatible. But I believe they have what is called the "X-factor", which is something that keeps a couple together despite their differences. Perhaps their X-factor is dance, perhaps it is something else, but that is what keeps them together and makes their relationship work and what keeps it interesting for the viewers.
I think that their relationship is a little underdeveloped in season 1, but I think as time goes on, you see them grow together and their relationship gets better:)
