2:25 the climax is stunning... Incredible arrangement/composition and execution by Hamelin, draws from many sources, Chopin/Alkan/etc, yet blended it into something powerful and unique - have never heard something like that before, and I have listened to so many piano pieces, including those of Liszt, Chopin, and other composition wizards - you name it. It is one of my favourite piano-piece climaxes.
This work is truly remarkable, not only is it based on the symphony but also on other themes like le festine d'esope ( 1:08 ) Hamelin was truly a genius
Not really. The original etude is probably harder than this. He was probably thinking that he combination would make a good piece, and he was right, since it's better than the etude it's primarily based on.
@@gabelonguinhosBut his intended tempo was determined by arithmetic mean of two original pieces - Op. 39/7 written as whole note = 96 (half note = 192), and Op. 76/3 written as quarter note = 160 (in order to follow the piece, he wrote it again by doubling both note length and tempo); therefore, the tempo is half note = (160 + 192)/2 = 176.
@@Yubin_Lee_Doramelin you're absolutely correct. Actually since that comment i went and got the music and am trying out for myself, and came across the number lol. Nonetheless it remains true that even a little slower would be so much easier but of course he makes no such concessions.
@@gabelonguinhos It's really fast and quite demanding, of course. I think it's still effective to play half note = 160 (= original tempo of Op. 76/3 without doubling the note length) without any disturbance. Anyway, good luck!
The midi versions are awful, so lifeless and mechanical. Please take these offline, or at least mention in the title "MIDI", then I can filter them away. I missed the original, thanks for re-uploading!

Für ist das unspielbar. Ich bewundere alle, die das können. Chapeau.
My toxic trait is thinking: "Yeah I could prob play this."

SAME
Because "Alkan isn't hard enough." Hamelin probably thought.
Well considering he has learnt the concerto and the symphony

I just like this piece and performance so much
If he took it even like 8bpm slower it'd be so much easier and just as badass but of course he takes it as fast as possible
2:26 is like Liszt Campanella but for the left hand and in octaves, lol

Unreal..
Best version
I like how the midi versions on RUclips have significantly more views
Because it is much older

It's two Etudes of Alkan combined. He does the same idea with his Chopin triple etude. Check that one out. It might exceed Godowski
And I'm quite sure Alkan sonatine 4th movement is part of it too-that's where the broken octaves come from.

Worthy.
