So cool! I didn't know I needed this video, but turns out I absolutely did. I'd love to see a part 2, there's definitely more to uncover. Like the beautiful resolution at the end of the verses in "Space Man", the way that "River" sounds both eerie and happily energetic at the same time, or how amazingly smooth the Instrumental of "Disko" is.
Thanks heaps, Rachel. Like many others this video has guided me to a alternative appreciation for this year’s songs. Would be great to watch and listen to more of your melodic favourites if you’ve the time to explore them with us!
Great video this, and it's nice to see somebody discussing Eurovision in this way, from a musically technical standpoint. Which songs this year do you think are let down by the composition perhaps? You mentioned Cyprus's song has embellishments... would some other songs have benefited from such things, or are some tunes trying to do too much and should be simpler?
So I think Australia’s was too hammy and complex and could have done with a bit less embellishments. I think Malta’s could have done with some more elaborate melodies as well. :)
Brilliant video, I would absolutely love to see/listen to more of those. It definitely helped me understand better why I enjoy some of these songs as much as I do so thanks for that.
Interesting! Love Debussy and I think you’re right go draw the two together. I think Greek music uses extra stuff like quarter tones so it is different from western classical harmonies :)
I LOVE your video content, it's so different from what you can find on this platform and it's way more interesting. It's so beautiful to go beyond the surface in music, it's fascinating to know the details of such a beautiful art and I thank you for bringing this type of videos here

Really enjoyed this video, im always interested to see what actually goes on within a song and actually hearing examples of it as well! Would love to see more of this! :)
I am not a musician, I do not play any instrument(unfortunately), but the music of the Greek and the Dutch entry, even on Rachel's beautiful piano, sound to me pretty similar....and you play the Cypriot entry so, so beautifully! It actually sounds much better than the original track
II play a little guitar and am obsessed with A minor, don't ask me why haha 🤣 evidently there is a lot of me in that agreement. I really like all the melodic parts you played , u are good Rachel! 😁 I also like these videos you make, they enrich the channel in my opinion, you don't even go off topic.
OMG Im gonna need a tutorial for cyprus its my favourite this year and on the piano it sounds soo much better, do you think myb you could do a tutorial video? I would be very thankfull
I hate Finland’s entry this year(I’m from Finland) lol but you made it sound so beautiful 😭😂 One thought I had though, not directly related to ESC but have you listened to any of the songs from Sanremo 2022? (Except for the winning song ofc) I really liked Michele Bravi and I thought you might enjoy his music too! He has so many songs that make you cry, it’s wonderful
The Dutch hook can get repetitive, and I never liked Arcade which was also depressive. And I thought d minor was quite frequent in popular music now. I thought the Icelandic song had that yearning middle section and of course the end seems to leave the minor key. The darkness of night being replaced by the incoming light of dawn. So that's some development in the 3 minutes you have. Actually now I see you mention the end in the video. The Cyprus song sounded better in the slower or at least stripped down house party version. I don't get the Italian song (the runner up at Sanremo was better), but at least it's better than Maneskin or Mahmood's previous song. To me Sanremo rarely rewards songs purely on musical merit.
i would honestly listen to a full album of eurovision piano covers of yours, so beautiful
Thank you 🥰
8:31 that made me got shivers 🥺
Bellissimi questi momenti al piano, non c'è un suono più bello. Anche Brividi al piano è stupenda! Grazie.

I'm absolutely amazed by your talent 🥰
Not only your reviews are exquisite, your covers are amazing.
Thanks heaps, Rachel. Like many others this video has guided me to a alternative appreciation for this year’s songs. Would be great to watch and listen to more of your melodic favourites if you’ve the time to explore them with us!

camment 1:
I love your humour at the start. I love self deprecating humour, and you don't overdo it, which I do
Love me some musical nerd content!! And you're a really talented arranger, Rach

I don't really understand a lot of the musical theory, but I really enjoy listening to you playing the piano :-)
