So right about commission, in college I worked at a Dept store selling mattresses and furniture. I sold so many of one brand for six months because I could earn kitchen aid small appliances. I earned complete sets, Stand Mixer, food processor, blender and hand mixer. I gave a set to my mom, 2 sisters, my girlfriend and myself. Great times but I couldn't tell you what brand it was now and I know it wasn't the best, I was just the best at convincing people it was:)

Supernait 1 was my first amp, and I still feel a pang of regret for selling that beautiful piece. It brought so much joy and warmth to my listening experience. I moved on to an Accuphase, but it left me disappointed. Now, I've switched to an all-in-one solution with the NAD M10. It's convenient, but I know deep down that if the NAD ever fails, I'll go back to the Supernait. That amp was unparalleled, giving me countless hours of relaxation and joy, even at low volumes. The rhythm and style of the classic Naim are simply unbeatable, and you can find them second-hand in superb condition. Plus, it pairs perfectly with my British Spendor D7.2. I don't understand the fascination with tube amps. Every time I had the chance to listen to them, I felt they offered less control, more distortion, and were overpriced. I also don't get where the idea comes from that they're difficult to drive speakers with. In my 30m² room, even with several speakers, I barely hit the 12 o'clock mark on the volume regulator. The Supernait had everything I needed and more, and it remains unmatched in my heart.

Yeah I always like it when people break it down into the cost of parts. I mean why spend $85,000 on a brand new Mercedes when you can buy the parts and assemble it yourself for less than 5000. I mean seriously get real, you are paying for engineering and build quality and great customer service And a company that will stand behind their product not two years from now not 10 years from now but 20. Offer me all that for less than they charge and I'd happily give you my money.
I have read that the "Naim / PMC" combo is superb, i have a PMC Twenty5 26 floor standers at 86db, would this Naim SN 3 at 80 w/ch would be enough to play my speakers loud enough ? I have been using Hegel H390 with this PMCs which sounds very nice, but again some say Naim is a better match, my worries is the power rating Thank you !!
I use the Supernait 3 with my B&W 804D3 and if I turn up the volume to 1/4 it is so loud that it almost hurts ;). So enough power at all. I already compared it with McIntosh 352, Devialet 200 and a Lyngdorf TDAI 3400. They all sounded flat and not so engaging. Only the McIntosh had a nice midrange but not even close to the Naim.
Petrolhead 777 hi there. I have sold my B&W 804 D3 and bought PMC 25.24 instead. I love the combo. There is also a picture und Instagram from upscaleaudio.
@@RealRonin1982 Many thanks for replying so promptly. Are you happy with the amount of power the Naim SN3 is providing to the PMC 25.24? Petrolhead 777 I had many different amplifiers, but always tested them with my 804D3. McIntosh MA7200, Devialet 200, Lyngdorf TDAI 3400 and more. Then I tested the Supernait 3 and fell in love. I love Naim products. Their priorities are in the right places. I am a little surprised by the toplogy of this amp with the output wires where they are though.
I would like to know how this Supernait 3 compares to a Sugden A21 SE Signature? The difference in power is not a parameter to be taken into account for me!
Hi, thanks for the video, i am wondering if i shd go for XS3 or 200+202 combination to drive PMC 25.22 , XS3 launched in last year and 200+202 launched quite a long time, i know comparing int. amp and pre+power amp isnt fair, but i would like to get some opinions from the others before i make the decision, thanks!!
No the Nova is an all in one system and uses entirely different components. The Nova is great bit of kit but the SN3 is on another level when it comes to amplification.
No, not as such, though there are many similarities in the way they are engineered for high current delivery (hence the massive power supplies and caps), and carefully designed and constructed for maximum SQ.
To this day one of the most absorbing music reproduction experiences I have ever had was a full Naim System ( with a fantastic speaker they used to sell back in 1998) at the Bristol HiFi show in England. To this day I can remember the sound! Funnily enough at the same show I heard the best headphone experience I have heard up to this day, the Sennheiser Tube amp with included headphones, it was incredible as well!
@@hushpuppykl good Q. Loud enough to get full enjoyment from the music. Just dont want the amp to clip. Also want to be able to wake those speakers up. Dynaudios like current.
Just bought one. I agree with the review here. Bad a55. Period. As Naim say, there's Watts and there's Salisbury Watts. This thing has GRUNT in spades.
Anyone know why Supernait always has hum sound when you hear closely to tweeter speaker. Which I never hear from other amp brand. I have both SN2,3 have same things
I've never heard Naim amplifiers. Can someone comment on the sound signature differences between the Naim and Musical Fidelity amplifiers please. Thanks!
If you want to pay Bentley prices for parts made in China and elsewhere and assembled only in UK. Feel.special you paid so much for brand hype. Then go ahead. As for sound you need all Naim gear to hear their sound. Which means you can't leave or add anything else to the brand circle. I have had almost alll Naim components in my home except 500 / Statement. I sold them all gladly without regrets. Problems galore after just 100 hours use and ridiculous repair costs even under warranty.
@@burp5097 What utter tripe! Naim kit plays perfectly nicely with lots of other gear, be that vinyl or digital. As to "problems galore after just 100 hours", sounds like you might have a bit of an agenda to denigrate Naim - it's reliable kit, but if it's giving you issues so soon, ANY Naim dealer will be happy to help resolve them with Naim. Don't know where you are, but in the UK, most Naim kit comes with a 5 year warranty, reflecting the faith the company have in their products. Your comment about ridiculous repair costs under warranty makes no sense - if an item is under warranty, it should be fixed for free, period. Naim offer a fixed price tariff for many of their out of warranty repairs.
@@karmachochiUnder Powered, Over Priced, Over Hyped. I should know better. I have been a dealer for them last 25 years. Just broke off that long standing relationship. The Naims in comparison to other brands were entry level gear including the Statements we housed. They have that Naim house sound that you will either love or hate. I never said i didn't like their sound. You could do a lot better for a lot less with other AV gear. I'm glad i let them go from my global stores. I have better AV gear for sale that are more reliable, sound better, that bring huge smiles & satisfaction to my customers.
@@burp5097 So, I note that you don't say where you're located, what the name of your company is, or supply anything even vaguely factual or objective to support your claims. It's purely a subjective viewpoint that just doesn't stand up to scrutiny. All Naim amps are famous for delivering hefty current swings, and given you include the Statement in your dismissal, it's risible that you dismiss an amp delivering 746W into 8 ohms, 1450W into 4 ohms & 9kW burst power into 1 ohm as "underpowered". As for overpriced - that may be the case in some export markets outside the UK - I'm in no position to judge - but the fact that it continues to thrive and export product in spades suggests your perspective might be a bit of an outlier. As for reliability, I reiterate, how many other manufacturers back their product with a 5 year warranty? On the sonic signature issue - it seems that reviewers the world over understand what makes the Naim house sound work for them - indeed you yourself say that "I never said I didn't like their sound" - but whatever, if it's not for you, look elsewhere. As a hi-fi (or should I say AV) dealer though, surely you'd want to offer clients a range of offerings without bringing your own prejudices to the table? I'm afraid unless you tell us who you are and/or suggest which products you sell that are so superior, your comments need to be taken with a healthy dose of scepticism.
ive got a nac82 hicap and recently serviced nap 250 cost all in second hand including the £350 extra for the amp service £2550. i personaly believe it will destroy the supernait . 1999 - 2001 models
You're dead wrong. I had you pair and many other combinations. I just got rid of separates because I couldn't believe how good the SN3 is. It's even better than the Nova and you can add a cap to it. Honestly, I don't know why would anyone buy today a 282+250 and pay much more than a SN3.
@@grunter2867 the HiCap I think it's a matter of taste and preference. I like the bass better with a cap but yesterday the dealer, and many other people as you can see in the Naim forum, prefer it without the Hicap. Seriously, you should try the new SN. I also thought the nac282+nap250 couldn't be beaten.
Three years ago I upgraded my stereo system. I bought a hybrid integrated amp measuring 150w in 8 ohms, which cost me 2000€. My dealer at that time insisted to listen to the Naim nait xs2 first & then decide which one I buy. To my regret I didn't listen to him. Three years later I finally borough the XS2 & I must say I did a huge mistake. The naim outperformed the hybrid amp in every way:sound quality, clarity, output power and bass-yes this little thing drops serious bass. Anyway I ended up ordering the SuperNait 3. So believe the man,Kevin for what he is saying. It's a badass piece of equipment.
Naim is a nice audio company. It s different than the rest. Although the sound is often very nice, the quality is not there. Often there comes sound from the power transformer, stuff breaks down and I think it is a shame you need to buy separate power supplies to get the best out of it. Our local hifi store has quit Naim after 8 years because the costs sending equipment back to the distributor for repair became frustrating. It is just like Saab. A group of people really like it (and I can understand that), but we all know a Lexus is better in every single way. So for this kind of money I would rather go Luxman, Accuphase or Denon. With those you really get an amplifier for a lifetime.
Ah now I know, I had a Mitsubishi rear projection tv pitched to me in 98, and it was crappy and dim. That amp is a beautiful piece to behold. There are many ways to skin a cat.
Had a Naim Integrated Amp... sadly build quality is lacking..first problem, the Naim Logo that lits up when turned on or at standby became spoiled with what looked like water mark..its a common problem i was told, then the there was the dreaded humming of the amp..bad power supply i was told.. for an expensive hi fi equipment these are totally unacceptable..
mohamad fauzi my naim’s transformer hums too but it doesn’t translate it to the speakers so it doesn’t matter if it hums for me. It only hums when someone in my house uses something that use a lot of electricity, like the electric stove or there is 3 air conditioner got turned on simultaneously.
Toroidal transformers produce MORE hum, that's because hum is not inductive, it's capacitive. Manufacturers use toroidal transformers because they radiate less on the perimeter and they can get more in the case. The Naim you're displaying shows this, see how close it is to the PCB? If you think you can hear the difference in digital pots than prove it in a DBT, if you're really an honest person that's the criteria. We use science to design these things just like any other piece of electronic equipment and we should use science to evaluate them. I've tested Blue Velvet pots in designs and they fail miserably compared to digital pots. Dig pots are designed and built in a highly controlled environment with super tight tolerances and they will outlast ANY mechanical pot. I've seen ALPs pots that didn't track low volumes equally, never with a digital pot and I've put these things on instruments that exceed human hearing, I can prove it scientifically. Reviewers should publish their hearing spectrum and use DBTing to prove their evaluations. That's the acid test and I'll bet most reviewers would pick a high quality class D amp over an AB. In fact a well designed class D with a good tube preamp would destroy most of these amps. Class D is the future, you think you can get better dynamics than a 1kW class D? I'll bet you can't and yes I can prove it in a DBT. Manufacturers don't like class D because it's going to be their death knell. PS audio is selling amps for $6k with $500 worth of class D inside and Sterophile is giving it an 'A' rating, that's how good class D is. You can put all the bells and whistles on a power supply but you'll never compete with an SMPS supply but if you think you can, show me. Maybe for some exorbitant price you'll compete but why should I pay for that? In five years there will be a whole new technology around. Speakers, that's another story.
Maybe it sounds good, but engineering is nothing special when compared to most vintage medium class amplifiers. Toroidal transformer looks nice though.
Why are they still using this ugly additional knob for balance? Because of that Supernait looks terrible. The XS2 has an advantage here and looks much better. Whether the balance knob is something that users of amplifiers from this shelf are looking for? I respect the Naim and accept their various quirks, but no exaggeration what the balance is for.
Wait.... you compare Naim users to Scientologists and try not to offend the Scientologists? I have a full Naim system and I love it because it is a cult.
Interesting. I'd expect more than an ALPs Blue Velvet at nearly $6K. Not exactly a high end part. It just doesn't seem like you get a lot for your money. A low powered 30lb amp for $6K without any exotic parts in it, in a simple stamped steel chassis, with I assume an aluminum faceplate? Nearly everything I've seen at this price has a toroid, it's not exactly an exotic part. I guess I've got to hear Naim before judging. Maybe there's some secret sauce in there somewhere.
1:02 thats exactly how YOU are kevin, worse than a used car salesman.the tube should be off limits to you,you are a snake..you are the kind of guy who pushes a 65.000 dollar deal and not even asking the customer about his room.
Naim = Forward midrange low bandwidth with a nasty sound that shreds your ears- cheap caps from the 70’s and people keep buying these over priced, over rated amps. Their CD players were good but I traded all my naim kit in for YBA and I’m much happier she can finally enjoy the music
Richard Singer Not to my ears - they seem to be like marmite in audiophile communities - you either love them or hate them. While not bad I had them and got rid. Low bandwidth amps with forward mids and narrow soundstage was not my cup of tea at least with sopras. I couldn’t care less how many employees YBA have they just sound right for me especially the way this combo paired. It’s all down to synergy and the Naim kit didn’t sing in my system (even with their top end cable).
Jake Roberts Yeah because YBA has such a poor following in the U.K. That’s why I see them paired up with everything in shops and shows. Even my dealer who is one of the biggest in the U.K. thinks Naim is over rated. hence why they have loads of used Naim kit everywhere like an amp graveyard
seriously please stop insane hype for primaluna everytime... I don't know what your relationship is with primaluna but thers always a limit sir. Also 2 other very amazing reviewers hate primaluna because it sounds more ss than tube... So the whole point of having tubes is worthless no matter the build quality.
too bad the Naim is so ugly. At that price point, people want to show off their system and make it a center piece. Everyone with a Naim that I met, hide it in a cabinet.
Not cheesy and blingy enough for you? Naim is handsome in an understated, sophisticated way. Maybe the guy that approaches you at the gas station in a white panel van has the right "hi-fi" for you.
Elvisisalive like they say “Do not underestimate the performance by the look.” For me I love the looks and I like how people always look down on it then when they hear it they go “Holy shit.”
At the end of the day, one either likes, or dislikes, a 'house' sound. My experience of Naim dates back to the days of the Linn/Naim axis, and the amplifiers have never appealed to me. I much preferred Sugden Audio.
To be fair, Sugden amps do also have something of a house sound - quite euphonic, and I can see why people like them. I like them too, in the right system. But it's worth noting that the Naim house sound has evolved considerably from the Linn/Naim axis days, and you'll find that modern Naim amps are voiced notably differently if you compare back to back with their older equivalents. The Nait SN3 integrated being a case in point - it's the antithesis of the Marmite experience of days of yore.
Naim made pure marketing products. Naim Super Nait 3 have very high level distortion, very high(for High-End level amplifier!)!
Iam on used amp budget.
Is this any better sounding than the supernait 2?
Yep. Naim is great.
I have read that the "Naim / PMC" combo is superb, i have a PMC Twenty5 26 floor standers at 86db, would this Naim SN 3 at 80 w/ch would be enough to play my speakers loud enough ?
I have been using Hegel H390 with this PMCs which sounds very nice, but again some say Naim is a better match, my worries is the power rating
Thank you !!
Hi, wondering if you switched to the Naim SN3. I'm looking for an amp for my PMC 25.26. Thanks
I need to decide betweeen the SN3 and Musical Fidelity M6si in the new few days. I'd try to get a demo. At the same time it'll be good to get feedback from fellow audiophiles like you. Cheers!
Petrolhead 777 I had many different amplifiers, but always tested them with my 804D3. McIntosh MA7200, Devialet 200, Lyngdorf TDAI 3400 and more. Then I tested the Supernait 3 and fell in love. When I switched to the 25.24 it was even better for me. More musical for me. The amount of power is enough. Small adjustment at the volume and it’s very loud. Hope this information help you.
I just ordered my first naim the naim nait 5 si very exited is it true i need naim speaker cables or coud i use nordost
I bought a Aha New Tube CD player from Upscale Audio many years ago. It started having issues. After calling a few times I never received a call back, ever!
Yes great product 🎶👍
Honestly your amazing kevin... umm.. hopefuly I wont need to get a flight to California to see that naim 3 from nyc..!?...you seem very honest , truthful , and very eloquent and detailed. Will see....what's your take on the parasound jc-5 in comparison ..?
I love Naim products. Their priorities are in the right places. I am a little surprised by the toplogy of this amp with the output wires where they are though.
I would like to know how this Supernait 3 compares to a Sugden A21 SE Signature?
The difference in power is not a parameter to be taken into account for me!
Class A is Sugden, Naim is not
a very good offer but I don't know if it's as good as the integrated amps that have made naim a great brand
bet that would be a great match for those autograph minis?
Hi, thanks for the video,
i am wondering if i shd go for XS3 or 200+202 combination to drive PMC 25.22 , XS3 launched in last year and 200+202 launched quite a long time, i know comparing int. amp and pre+power amp isnt fair, but i would like to get some opinions from the others before i make the decision, thanks!!
how would u compare this supernait3 vs the mcintosh ma7200 integrated thanks
no way comparing this two
like pa amp vs mcintosh
hi. does the Uniti Nova streamer shair the same amp as this supernait3 thank u.. cause they do look they share the parts starting with transformer.
No the Nova is an all in one system and uses entirely different components. The Nova is great bit of kit but the SN3 is on another level when it comes to amplification.
No, not as such, though there are many similarities in the way they are engineered for high current delivery (hence the massive power supplies and caps), and carefully designed and constructed for maximum SQ.
what about krell?
How do you like Naim with Focal?
Not good synergy
No tone control ?
To this day one of the most absorbing music reproduction experiences I have ever had was a full Naim System ( with a fantastic speaker they used to sell back in 1998) at the Bristol HiFi show in England. To this day I can remember the sound! Funnily enough at the same show I heard the best headphone experience I have heard up to this day, the Sennheiser Tube amp with included headphones, it was incredible as well!
That amp looks insane. Clearly, they are using top shelf parts.
Naim or Music fidelity m6si with Focal speakers?
Naim is made in the Uk
What are those speakers? They’re beautiful.
Tannoy i guess
Tannoy
why don't you sell fyne speakers
Will the SN3 properly drive a set of Dynaudio Contour 60s?
Douglas Loefgren ... of course but how loud do you want to go? 😬
Hi
Is the 3 superior in sound than the 2?
(Iam on a used budget?)
I never owned a mitsubishi projection tv but back then I thought the version of the sony trinitron tv they were making under license was the best crt.

No humming, no buzzing....
Please review aavik u 380 amplifier
My first vcr back in 84 was a mits and frankly it was crap compared to panasonic and jvc. Didn't realized until after I had it a while.
i went from sp3 to full naim 500 and let me tell you brother: HABA HABAA!!
This guy knows good stuff when he hears it. Naim is indeed badass and the Supernait would be my ideal match for my ATC Scm 11's and Naim Cdx2.
I just discovered your channel...love it! {Haha...Mr. 4:20}
Why only 80 watts? isn't this self limiting?
We always like to say it’s not about how many watts it’s about how good they are!
Nice submariner ;)
I've never heard Naim amplifiers. Can someone comment on the sound signature differences between the Naim and Musical Fidelity amplifiers please. Thanks!
@Adam Audio many thanks for replying in detail. Will try to get a demo. Cheers
Anyone seen Kevin's Rolex?
ive got a nac82 hicap and recently serviced nap 250 cost all in second hand including the £350 extra for the amp service £2550. i personaly believe it will destroy the supernait .
@@LBoatCaptain i have not heard it but i would be very surprised if it did outperform a 3 box solution. ps if its so good why add a cap to it.
I bought a hybrid integrated amp measuring 150w in 8 ohms,which cost me 2000€.
Agree
Can you please open store in Israel 😉
first here, i win everything in Kevin's stock !!! (Kevin for President 2020)
I only have 1 question Kevin, is it badass though, LOL
7:03 it sure is!
I don't care what I see on the screen. This guy is selling me a car.
It seems like you'd been a degree in engineering to connect a pair of REL subwoofers high level to a Naim.
This guy could sell bug spray to an ant...love this guy!
Kevin sounds like he just went to the dentist
Ah now I know, I had a Mitsubishi rear projection tv pitched to me in 98, and it was crappy and dim. That amp is a beautiful piece to behold. There are many ways to skin a cat.
Had a Naim Integrated Amp... sadly build quality is lacking..first problem, the Naim Logo that lits up when turned on or at standby became spoiled with what looked like water mark..its a common problem i was told, then the there was the dreaded humming of the amp..bad power supply i was told.. for an expensive hi fi equipment these are totally unacceptable..
Ah almost forgot ...the oled displays begin to fade after around 3 years
which model gear?
Well known problems
mohamad fauzi my naim’s transformer hums too but it doesn’t translate it to the speakers so it doesn’t matter if it hums for me.
Naim = What goes in is what comes out.
@Kris Moodley I agree. More things I want that I can't afford.
Mitsubishi tube televisions were the best.
You could teach those kids something in Southpark
Why don't you sell Croft? It is the best in the world....
LOL.
Maybe it sounds good, but engineering is nothing special when compared to most vintage medium class amplifiers. Toroidal transformer looks nice though.
He should get into movies, he’s one of those guys that is just naturally funny
Naim can not be good deal when the power transformer is so noisy.
mystique the transformer humming? It is normal, even my chrome bumper naim hums but it doesn’t translate to the speakers
Maybe there's some secret sauce in there somewhere.
)
No balanced in / out? SN3 may be badass but cannot be a serious audiophile gear ...
It is serious...no sense of humor at all. Like you.
Dennis Hinman seriously. I choose integrate amp from Bryston, Simaudio, or Hegel over SN3.
@@Waitaminutesilly Oh no! You need to step up to Vitus.

Naim = Forward midrange low bandwidth with a nasty sound that shreds your ears- cheap caps from the 70’s and people keep buying these over priced, over rated amps. Their CD players were good but I traded all my naim kit in for YBA and I’m much happier she can finally enjoy the music
Sound Ideas that’s clearly an extreme over exaggeration.
They are the distributor for North America, that's why .
Prima Luna is ok.
British engineering is rather nice, isn't it.
too bad the Naim is so ugly. At that price point, people want to show off their system and make it a center piece. Everyone with a Naim that I met, hide it in a cabinet.

Naim is handsome in an understated, sophisticated way. Maybe the guy that approaches you at the gas station in a white panel van has the right "hi-fi" for you.
