    They didn't once mention the safari. It's dirt cheap transportation, $1 or $2 and it takes you around the south part of the island and you can hit at least 4 beaches, all of downtown, Havenight and Crown Bay, which are all popular spots. Take it from an expert, not a tourist!

    Google maps doesn't really work in St Thomas, nor does a cars GPS work. Too many street that don't come up. Try Waze, it works much better. Cheapest food prices on St Thomas are at Pueblo Supermarket by Frenchtown near the airport. Pueblo near Havensight Mall is more expensive. Cheapest alcohol is also Pueblo by the airport and K Mart.

    I couldn't make it past the first few minutes. I moved here 5 months ago, Google maps doesn't work everywhere on island. I can't tell you how many times it told me to turn the wrong way down a one way street, turn into someone's driveway as if it was a road, or turn onto a road that no longer exists. Scooters are horribly unsafe here. Roosters don't lay eggs. That's as far as I got before I became too annoyed at the privilege of this video 🙄

    We lived in Yacht Haven on the Noah's Ark and went to school above the West India Company dock at Antilles School. We used to go snorkling off the cliff for Biology class in 9th grade. No horrible big yachts then, but real sailboats and real sailors! from all over the world! So fun. Sometimes the crew ship captains would let us all go on the ships to explore on our way back home after school, if we promised to stick together and be good and not get in trouble.

    That looks like a fun trip. I lived on Oahu for more than 20 years. What you quickly learn about living on an island is that most of the food and consumer goods are imported from somewhere else and this long distance shipping and all the different middlemen (food producer, wholesaler, factory processor, trucking company, ship or air transportation, longshoremen off-loading cargo at the port, truck delivery to the store) drive up the cost. And because rents and electric power for shops are also higher than on the mainland, this also drives up the cost of food and consumer goods. We quickly learned that if the food was not actually grown on the island or caught in the sea off shore of the island, it was going to be a lot more expensive than the same food sold on the mainland.
    If I was staying in the U.S.V.I., I would buy fresh locally grown produce from farmers' markets and buy fresh seafood at the docks directly from the fishermen and prepare most of my meals myself. If I wanted to buy a prepared meal, I would go to one of the food trucks that sells mainly to the locals and choose one of the lower cost local dishes. A breakfast of ripe, locally grown mangoes, papayas and bananas -- the fruit purchased at the farmer's market -- will cost less than a bowl of boxed breakfast cereal and imported cow's milk. A lunch of a hamburger sandwich (imported beef, imported wheat flour for the bun) and French fries (imported potatoes, imported cooking oil) from a restaurant will probably a lot cost more that cooked sweet potato (locally grown), grilled fish fillet (locally caught that day) and cooked greens (locally grown) from a food truck. When you are staying on an island and have a tight budget, you save money by eating what the locals eat and you stay away from tourist restaurants and do not buy imported processed foods and imported meats from local grocery stores.

    The USVI are great! It was enjoyable to see and hear about them. At 04:06 the young fellow was eating while his wife was talking to him. I thought crunching on the apple was so rude of him (maybe he was upset about something); aside from that, he seemed like a nice guy. Overall, the video gave me a good feel for the islands. And, yes, food is expensive on St. Thomas! Indeed, those yachts are so amazing and same goes for the views-spectacular! Would love to move there.

  • @danieljones3490
    @danieljones3490 2 года назад

    In spite of her cheerful, blissful, wonderful energy and happy disposition, this was a pretty sad video. I enjoyed watching most of it, except for when the guy talked, because he had nothing positive, good, or helpful to say. He was a real downer. Poor guy there on Hull Bay Beach, unable to enjoy himself, unable to sit still, obviously rushing her along, so clearly unable to enjoy the little things in life. Don't blame it on the busy puppy! YOU brought the dog ... Around the seven-minute mark, it's evident he was being a dick, they just had a disagreement because he wanted to leave. We were just there, and Hull Bay was one of our most favorite beaches. They have the bar right there, clear water, perfect setting, fun and boozy locals! There was a lot of hating and jealousy coming from this dude. Instead of being envious of the wealthy and their yachts, here's what you do: offer to take one of the wealthy yacht owner's out to lunch, asking them how they got wealthy and how you can do it, too. I recommend a few books for him -- Jack Canfield's "Success Principles," Jim Rohn's "7 Strategies for Wealth and Happiness," and Denis Waitley's "The Psychology of Winning." We used to be dirt broke, living in a ghetto part of Richmond, Va. We come from the opposite of money: no money! But we read the right books, developed the right skills, thought the right thoughts, and put in the work. We have the right mindset. Now we're in Seattle doing as well as we had dreamed and expected of ourselves. When we stopped hating on the wealthy, and being jealous of them; when we started respecting people, being happy for them and appreciating their hard work, we started creating our own wealth. So instead of saying, "That's a lot of money down there," how about: "We'll be there one day. I can feel it." Or -- "Seeing all this is so freaking motivating." Or -- "I wish I could meet these people. I'm sure they're some of the most impressive folks we could possibly ever meet."

    Americas playground🤢😩.. if you go to st. Thomas please learn about the culture and the history. It’s is a tragic and yet at times triumphant story of resilient people making home in a place they were maybe brought to my force of slavery or economy. The traditional food is lovely, the people are diverse and fun loving story tellers. It’s much more than the yatch and beaches that wealthier tourist litter the coast with pretending to exist in a vaccum from a community teeming with life.

    Maybe you can dispel a myth.... St Thomas and St. Croix are both tourist locations but St John's is a residential Island. We were told you could only go there if you lived on the Island or had business on the Island. Suggestion: ware tennis shoes or carry them in case you have to walk.

    • @tishav3989
      @tishav3989 3 года назад +3

      St. John is also considered a tourist location. Just like the other islands, people do live there as well. People (locals as well as tourists) travel between the islands daily on "local transportation" what we call ferries; or they use the barge if they choose to use their personal vehicles or a rental to get around. So, to answer your question, St. John is just like St. Thomas or St. Croix. However, things are even more expensive there.... St. John is not a "private island." I'm local... Myth dispelled.

    I grew up here 😊 I love your videos btw 😊 some perspective if you think it’s expensive imagine the people who live and work there. The taxi guy probably also acted like that because the directions on island are something along the lines of “go over here by the blue house make a left then go up the hill and stop by the mango tree” 😂 sometimes when tourists ask to be taken somewhere they really have no idea where they’re going & address are questionable on island. As you can see the older folks don’t care to use a GPS and but overall great video 😊

    Every time I’ve been there and every picture I’ve seen of the cruise dock there has been at least one cruise ship there. Hardly recognize it.

    I travel to USVI regularly, know the best deals, food, jet skiis, private pilot, paddle boards, cultural events and so forth. Take it from someone who lives their part time and not a tourist!!!

    Hi guys! I'm a fairly new subscriber to your channel. My wife and I just booked a cruise for May 21st and one of the ports is St. Thomas and was wondering if you have any tips or cool spots on eating and enjoying a few drinks? I'm pretty sure that we are going to head to Magens Bay for a bit, but any input or ideas is appreciated. We love watching you guys! Give Pepper a squeeze for us! Much love from Fall River, Massachusetts! ❤️

      Hey Leo! A lot of the intriguing bars/restaurants were limited but were def starting to open. Sorry we don't have any recommendations for you! I'm sure you're going to have a lot better time than us there- Pepper def held us back from a lot of the best beaches which you'll get to actually enjoy.
