Same here, Leroy: with the Come and Praise hymnbook, no less. Such wonderful memories. :) "Remove not the ancient Landmark, which thy fathers have set." (Proverbs 22:28).
God Almighty, the Creator was manifest in the flesh. He came into the world to take away the sin of the world. He gave up his own life to save yours. His sacrifice on the cross paid the price for your redemption with his own blood. On the third day he rose from dead and offers the gift of salvation and forgiveness to those that repent and trust in him. This is the Gospel which means the Good News. Those that reject redemption will go to hell. 1 John 1:8-10 KJV If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. [9] If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. [10] If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. John 1:1-3,10 KJV In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. [2] The same was in the beginning with God. [3] All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. [10] He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. Isaiah 44:6 KJV Thus saith the Lord the King of Israel, and his redeemer the Lord of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God. Revelation 1:17-18 KJV And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: [18] I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death. Ephesians 2:8-9 KJV For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: [9] Not of works, lest any man should boast. Acts 4:12 KJV Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. John 5:24 KJV Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
I sang this at my primary school back in the 70's . so you can imagine the lump in my throat , when our youngest of our 4 children in Year 6 Leavers Assembly sang this last Thursday at the same primary school of St John
we used to sing this when I was at primary school, this was one of the better hymns and even now as a 23 year old I can really appreciate it's happy message. it was written in 1971 by sydney carter and I like to think that it was probably influenced by his experiences as a pacifist during ww2, still it's probably one of his greatest hymns (along with lord of the dance).
the memories. when I was at school every year the infants would practice this to sing at the year 6 leavers service. our year was the first year that didn't have it sung. I was gutted
Changing socks and pants on a Wednesday (Sure it was a wednesday ), standing up whenever a vip came into the dining room, it wasn't the toilet but the "lavatory", black points and red points and form 1 late night hot chocolates. Potentes virtue (with strength comes courage) hope that's what it means. love howsham
i'd completely forgotten singing this in school... just by chance checking out the 'top ten' wedding hymns and all 10 are ones that my music teacher loved and got us to sing lol ^^
I used to sing this back in primary school during the 90s (before the Plymouth Brethren took over and did away with "heretical" Anglican hymns). Those were the days.
This is one of those songs they used to make us sing at school that's secretly about Jesus. I used to just think it was about having good friends to share your life with and help you through tough times. Same with Lord of the Dance - I thought it was a cute song about an eccentric guy who liked to dance and people didn't understand him.
@mitchyzaking This innocent hymn is worse than nowadays music in your eyes I suppose? What would you prefer small children to be singing? "Bad Romance"? Remember singing this in my school, nice song.
Assembly in the morning sitting on the floor with our legs crossed.....memories:)
It's not a assembly
Maybe it's sining practice
The best time of my life .
Same here, Leroy: with the Come and Praise hymnbook, no less. Such wonderful memories. :)
"Remove not the ancient Landmark, which thy fathers have set." (Proverbs 22:28).

Primary school was amazing
I remember this hymn at junior school (1977-1981). It is in G major and I always like to hear good intonation as I am musical!
How delightful to hear this choir, with their English accent, sing one of my favourite hymns.
Never heard it before but was sung at my youngest sons wedding on 5th Aug 2017 and I love it
