Eighty-five years ago, this car was assembled at Ford, then shipped off to a dealer. FDR was President. This video showed the final moments of that vehicle. Imagine the different owners it might have had (three? four? a dozen?). It was beyond saving, but we got to see the bookend to that day in 1938 when it fired up and drove for the first time.
Crazy that it didn't fold in half, seeing how rusty it was! Free up some valves and that engine will run! o.k. maybe a bit more work that that! Thanks Matt, Mike and Steve, the man of mystery!!
Wow . Not much savable on it , but perhaps enough to make it worth your while , as well as some others too . Glad you were able to grab a good engine core out of it , good trans , rad , & the dash goodies , for your 38 convertible . I hope you use the horizontal V8 emblems , those are cool , along with the other trim pieces you were able to get/find saved . One year only , is a nice option to have parts for . I would be interested in seeing that engine run , if it turns out to be worth it . That would be the "cake" , the icing being the trim & dash pieces . A wise call putting Moon Dog inside for that project . Just safer for him . A lot of work , but well worth it for the parts saved . Great job , ITG !
Are the trunk hinges save able, can you show a pic of them. It’s great that you saved what is useable since these are hard to find. I have a 38 deluxe coupe. Thanks
I was Joking! But , I have seen some ratrods worse than this. I agree with you on parting it out. I bought a 38 rear split window on ebay and grafted it on my 31 Model A project . @@terry3665 👍
I'd say you did a good job of salvaging everything you could off that dissolved Ford. I'm glad you did because a Ford 1938 deluxe is rare. 1938 was a severe economic recession year, and Detroit sales took a hard hit. No matter how rusty the rest of the car is, the stainless trim should be good. Deluxe 1938 front ends were used as standard series front ends on Fords in 1939. I'm glad the 59AB block looks like it could be saveable. They are better than the earlier v8 blocks.
Hi guys that was a handfull but keep the things that are usefull to some els have a look at bello,s customs he is doing some amazing work no kids around 😖✌👋
i'm sure that i'm not the only one to think this but please cut the rusty belts off before trying to see if the engine is free or not, it really makes a difference.. love your channel.
The noon beckons ,be of good cheer Empty trailer yawns so near Twas elegant now not so dear Its tetanus you now may fear Driveway looks open and clear The beauty you did sear Classy stuff you did STOW...
Great job saving the useful parts man. Would like to see the engine "Got it running " vid

There is always a chance to save stuff like this, just gotta give it to the right kind of guy, with a lot of time on his hands LOL
Poor old 38. Though it's trash it still makes me feel funny cutting one down like that. Can't save them all.
Cheers from Wisconsin
Parts cars are always a lot of fun. So many harvestable parts.
I've parted out many rusted cars.
Some with trees growing out of em.
Love the Content. !
Moon Dog adds to that . 🐶
Cool watching the dismantling.
be amazing if the block gets freed up and gets a rebuild with some of the parts you got from that big haul...
Great job on the rusty 38 ,you got parts you need and some to move along .Thanks again for all your hard work
Wow! I wasn't expecting the front half to emerge attached to the back half. 👍
Thank you Matt and Steve on the update of Junk parts car ! I'm looking forward to seeing or hearing if the engine is good !
You should do a video on building that motor! Looks savable! That drivers side front fender looked like the nicest part ha
If you have a spot on the side of the building to lean the roof on .... may be good metal to source for the upcoming Mercury roof chop.
I was thinking the same thing! I remember Matt saying he wanted to chop the '39 Merc and he needed a roof panel for that job.
At the very least, could had used the spilt window portion for another car rear window.@@edwardwerick2420
There is nothing better than having a parts car.
Having 2 or more is better
That is SO wild! Crazy, the car was like nothing and yet the Motor might be good!
Dissecting the old motor was the best part! Nice to save what u can.
Moon had different ideas, as soon as that door open "This one is a keeper lads, fix her up ship it out" haha
Crazy that it didn't fold in half, seeing how rusty it was! Free up some valves and that engine will run! o.k. maybe a bit more work that that! Thanks Matt, Mike and Steve, the man of mystery!!
Matt is happy he is making sparks !
A FUN WATCH, GUYS. THANKS!
"That thar's an antique, you know!"
Surprised you had to cut it up...should have just kicked it, and it would have fallen to pieces! 😂
Jeez Matt, remind me not to leave our rustbucket 09 Chrysler Town & Country parked in your driveway ! ... Then again maybe I should ! 🤭👍
Very surprised ! Thanks for the video.
" RAN WHEN PARKED "
I believe its true

Ya i am still wondering if the pistons are standard .thanks for the video it was interesting.

I have a 38 deluxe coupe.
Thanks
They are. Send us an email if interested in any parts: Irontrapgarage@gmail.com
Dude!!! Fun video!!! At less the brakes ain't locked up on the forklift!!!lol!!!✌️
What a cool trailer! The Ford one that is.
"Will it Run WORST 1938 Ford" would be a cool video for sure.
Did one like this late last year. Lots of small parts. BTW: Your long pickup bed is difficult to find for restorations…
Steve's are going to make it start!
ya need a big scrapyard crane w/ a magnet just to clean the driveway now
the smaller head nuts are now metric lol
It gives the expression "a crisp car" a whole new meaning. 😄
I was gonna restore that one of these days
The drivers side fender looks very usable as well as the drives side rear fender.
Save that rusty fender great wall hanger. Never seen one that bad. All the best guys enjoy your site.
Now that’s a rust bucket 😂😂 if you look up rust bucket in an encyclopedia a picture of that car is in there 🤪
cool ride
That was fun. Do it again
Very KOOL Matt and Steve i bit it will Run
HEY! Watch the paint!
fun to watch-
If the engine is savable that added to the parts you needed that you harvested makes the enterprise worthwhile.
Cool to watch!
I was a bit worried about scraping the paint on the old Fords mudguards when it was coming out of the trailer.😆😆
Those front fenders look like my 1972 Chevy Vega's did after its 1st Minnesota winter.
Would love to see a follow up on the engine.
I thought tht the sheet metal around the split bacl window would be of some interest to someone building a custom.
Some people would say this is crazy and no fun, not worth it. I say it looks like great fun and worth all the effort.
Agreed!
I think the back windows and part of of the roof would have made a good wall hanger?
That was fun....
Vultures 😂😂 good sheet metal is worth saving as well 👍
cant wait for engine part 2
Lunch Trays!!!
Matt does Moon have a bump on his tail? My pitbull/American bulldog had the same bump
Yep he has a bunch. We get them check and drained periodically.
@@IronTrapGarage how old is he? My boy had his get big and burst so we had it surgically removed cple months ago
Matt's and steve's early v8 chop Shop... 👍
Someone would have paid good money to make this a Ratrod🤪. I love your videos! Carry on brother!
He did the best thing by cutting it up and not making it available for another rat rod piece of junk
I was Joking! But , I have seen some ratrods worse than this. I agree with you on parting it out. I bought a 38 rear split window on ebay and grafted it on my 31 Model A project . @@terry3665 👍

That 59 AB seems to be the best flathead overall. Yes, the 8BA has some good points, but it seems crack-prone.
I just bought an original 37 firewall for 150. I wonder if that one was any good?
Hi guys that was a handfull but keep the things that are usefull to some els have a look at bello,s customs he is doing some amazing work no kids around 😖✌👋
Looks like a 59AB block from a truck with factory relieved between valves and pistons?
Great video! Were the piston stamped? Had it been bored?
Nice of you to bring Moon a mouse house Matt! lol
good show😎👍
Surprised you didn't save the rear window apertures. There great for roof chop mods..
That engine looks to be a good rebuilder
This might explain why I had trouble getting my projects back together
would love to see that engine run.
Did it have juice brakes instead of the cable operated ones???
Yep!
You cut this one up for very well
i'm sure that i'm not the only one to think this but please cut the rusty belts off before trying to see if the engine is free or not, it really makes a difference.. love your channel.
Lots of work, but lots of parts!
First time I've seen the fork lift move.
If the innards of the engine are OK, maybe some sandblasting on the outside components of the engine will clean it up??
Swiss cheese, hoping the Flathead is savable!
That engine vame apart easier than some of the other good ones.
That Baby is Lattice!
At one time was this car parked under water? Good video!
I saw Kate! Miss seeing that girl.
Nice engine.
They make this stuff called penatrating oil and if you soak rusty bolts in it. They come off alot easier 👍
You have a lot more time on your hands than we do when parting out a car I guess…
That must have been a coastal car to be rusted out that badly. At least it's giving up some usable parts!
Proves there's always SOMETHING worth saving, no matter how big a pile of crap you're working with!
💩😱👏👨🏭
Chances are that rusty p.o.s. last had Michigan plates.
Looks as good as my '01 Silverado!
I can’t believe that oil was still liquid!
Scrap value?? Just curious!
Is that a ultra rare 38' Ford Deluxe Airflow?
Some parts for resale, some to keep, most trashed, engine tbd but looks opportunistic. Always surprised by what you uncover.
I thought you were cutting up the convertible! Seems a shame that you cut up the sedan, but I guess it was too far gone to save.
How’d you get that crazy guy with the dreads from Canada to come all the way down and help you cut up that car?
I never see the big red fork truck run anymore. could have lifted up the ford
Yeaaaa that thing needs to go away this summer.
Yes, it's a little for your garage, but it's a beast i use to operate one just like it@IronTrapGarage
That thing was so rusty, after watching I went and got a tetnus shot.
Hated to see it cut up, but it had to do done. That one was unsavable.
That engine still good after the car has rusted out from under it calls to mind the saying "Its hard to kill a Ford"
Ever heard of a brass hammer?
Sure have. But don’t use it on parts cars when ripping and tearing..
I was waiting for Moon to puke on the floor, when he looked inside !
Call Derek from vice grip garage see if he'll come up and get it running and drive it A Thousand Miles home
The noon beckons ,be of good cheer
Empty trailer yawns so near
Twas elegant now not so dear
Its tetanus you now may fear
Driveway looks open and clear

Classy stuff you did STOW...
....Now its time for a beer!
Someone could take the rear widows and make a fake split window beetle
Hey that would have buffed out
