Great job. I am very thankful the back window didn't shatter while stapling.
I am replacing the carpet on my '86 and ended up ordering door panels too, because everything was soo rotten and cracked. Nice to see someone else with the door panels off, your video helped. Thanks.
Glad to help. These door panels tend to get very brittle with age. I have a fix for the later design LT1 cars also.
I replaced all the carpet and door panels in mine probably 15 years ago. Man, what a great update, makes the car feel like new!
Thanks for sharing this. I didn't do it as fast as you did but I got her done. I had to open up the first rivet like you did on my 1989.
Thanks again.
I am doing this as we speak. You make it look a lot quicker and easier than it is
The outer seals are tricky to install without a rubber mallet. The inner seal is best installed with low profile head screws via drilling the seal and the door panel. The average person is not going to invest in a pneumatic stapler. Also, the parts maker has zero instructions for installing these, so youtube is the only source for help. These seals take time to install for the novice and even a professional will need 3-4 hours to install both sides. The novice, plan on double that time.
Thanks for the advice to use rubber mallet. After days trying to snap in clips the
rubber mallet worked.
@@billzahradnik3666 I am glad my advice helped you out.
You can buy a pneumatic stapler at harbor freight for cheap, and if you're a DIY guy to the point where you're pulling off door panels, you're not really the average person! Well worth the purchase.
Thanks Rick , great tutorial mate ... thats the next job on my list ! keep up the good work . Regards (Adelaide, Australia)
Glad to help!
Very helpful, thank you. I think I also got the exact same outer liner as you did. Nice coincidence.
Gonna be getting at this soon, great vid!
Thanks! Good luck with your 84
At some point I'll be doing this on my Camaro. Nice work Rick!
Thanks man!
I believe that’s an early 1984 Vette. The motor trend car of the year sticker is a dead giveaway.
Good eye, It most likely was
U can also do your “carpet for your doors “ as well
Super well done sir 👍
Thank you!
Very helpful, thank you!
You did great job on this.
I just did passenger side on my 85, the big find was the interior door panel crack on inside that I plastic welded back when installing the interior felt strip. I Pre drill the staple holes, air stapler did not make it thru plastic. Windows still running on old regulators.
Rick have you done motor mounts on C4? Next project in my exhaust and was thinking of pulling entire exhaust to clear area?
Any video or suggestions?
Have new polyurethane inserts just trying to find easy way before I hit my head against wall.
Your past video on valve seals was big help this winter...... no smoke or oil misfire. Runs great.
Thanks, Albert
Next one I get that needs them Ill make a video. Its been a while. I think you will have to remove the exhaust. The driver side cat setup is the worst of the job. After that you just jack up the engine and do 1 mount at a time. Glad to help!
I did this and the new seals aren’t as flush as the old one was. Seems like towards the middle it won’t set flush on the door and leaves a gap. Still trying to get it better tho.
Hi
Can you tell me some of the details on the stapler and staples you used for this job? Thanks for all the help
Thank you so much for this! Some questions for you: have you ever changed the window motor? Do you just change the motor or the entire regulator like some people have opted for based on what I’ve read. My ‘85 came with a replacement motor but was not installed. You have a lot of fancy tools which I don’t have. Lol. With the amount of money I’d pay for tools and supplies (I.e. window felts and weather strips for the entire car), would it be better to just pay someone for the job? Not afraid to play with it just being practical 🤷🏻♂️
Its easier to just change the assembly / regulator but if you have time to spare it can save you some money to just do the motor. Some times its not worth the aggravation and not having all the tools it may be a good option to see a vette guy. Just make sure they are competent
Hey Rick, Nice vid. I have the weather strip problem only mine is really toasted. Wondering where you are located. Perhaps if you take work on I'd love for you to work on my vette. You know your stuff and that's the kinda guy I want working on my car. I am in NY on LI, if you are anywhere near, I can bring my vette over to you. Need more than weather strips, head lights are stubborn, I guess the usual vette stuff. Mine is an 89 c4, Thanks man, Jimmy
Thanks! I am in Maryland Just outside of Baltimore. I have a schedule that reaches 3 months out right now but could certainly do some work for you this summer.
Hey im in joppa maryland and i own a 1985 c4 that needs alittle work aswell and would love for you to do my weatherstripping aswell.. if you respond i can give you my number and work something out
Why did you wrap electrical tape on the drill bit before drilling out the rivets?
I do it just for a precaution from tearing up the door frame or rear of door seal if I slip off the rivet. Its not necessary
Add a link to where you purchased the new seals please ...
Great prices and quality parts.

Thanks. Do you push seal clips on from front or push down from top of seal
For the outer seal it has a lip that sits over the door skin and then it is supposed to pop into the inner door frame. This style clip pops in from the top down. (On each pop in clip the inner tab goes in the hole and the 2 outer rest on the frame towards the inside of the car. The whole seal gets popped in by pressing it downward. The older vettes used a different version of pop in tabs that would go straight into the door frame holes. Ive seen some of the reproduction felt seals have the pop in tabs in the wrong location. If so you have to pry out the bent over tangs from the felt side and mock up in the right spot. You can mark them and use a small drill to set and rebend the tangs in the correct place.

Thanks
@@CamaroRick I am just starting to replace the outer seals on my '87. Do I install the seal by just pressing it downwards watching the tabs go in correctly, or do I still need to use rivets as well?
@@MrZdvy I would def install the rivets so it cant pop out off of the door. Its not possible to see where its supposed to locate in with the door panel installed. Its the right time to do it. Once its riveted its not going to pop out with the glass pushing it upward. Pop rivet hand tools are pretty cheap and its a useful too to have for many other repairs. Even the heater core replacement will use rivets to reassemble the dash structure etc.
@@MrZdvy Here is an example of what happens if you dont rivet the outer felt seals in place: ruclips.net/video/86UOPbuwynI/видео.html
Wich brand are these strips ? Fair child or metro ? :D thank you :)
I get them from Lonestar Caliper co. so whoever supplies them.
@@CamaroRick ok i cant see the prices :D
@@anpimmeln7229 I believe they are Fairchild seals same stock photo but mirrored
The bottom carpet screws on my 88’ are completely rusted away
Drill off the screw head untill it comes off, pry the pannel off and use a vice grip on the remaining screw nubs sticking out of the door. Its pretty common especially if the carpet is getting wet a lot. You can order a new sets online
Yup, vice grips 👍🏻 at least they only go into plastic!
@@MJ7DIRULE you can buy new screw inserts, they come in handy because they are used all over the car. I go through a lot
How much would you say a job like this goes for ?
Its probably a 4 and a half hour job with glass adjustment.
@@CamaroRick so about 500.00 with tax ?
Thats a safe bet.
@@CamaroRick good Because I need it done, thanks for the information brother
@@Paulie1232 No prob man!
My 89 needs done. Want to do it?
Sure! Just bring it by the shop
At some point I will PAY someone to do mine, lol. I don’t have the patience....I’m in NJ...just sayin...
Corvette Rick
I know right! It didnt start off that way lol
@@CamaroRick my channel didn't start with me trying to work on cars. My first video is of me shooting my pistol. Lol
@@chemicalspore I hear ya! I still enjoy a good target practice day.
QUITE INTERESTING. ? : THE OUTERS ARE FINE, CAN ONE PURCHASE JUST A PAIR OF INNER DOOR FELT SEALS/SWEEPS? & THE (AMAZON) LINK IF THERE IS ONE. ALSO THE SIZE BITS USED & I NOTICED TAPE WRAPED AROUNED THE BIT USED WHEN DRILLING OUT RIVETS, I USE THAT METHOD MY SELF. WOULD HAVE BEEN GREAT TO HAVE MENTIONED THIS IN THE VID & IN UR (PARTS & TOOLS REQUIRED) & WHY U WRAPED TAPE AROUND THE END OF THE DRILL BITS. ALSO WHICH SIDE DID U STAPLE FROM WHEN STAPLING THE INNER SWEEP/FELT? NICE VID, BEST C4_ME.
